It's quite entertaining, but the gameplay isn't quite as good as the Battle Isle original, and the AI needs a real boost to make it more of a challenge. However the game is seriously let down by a serious bug in the DE campaign that means it cannot be finished after October 1917, the next campaign refuses to complete loading, and there ia a bizarre graphical problem with the October 1917 campaign which copies some of your units into the bottom left had hex, and knocks all your units promotions back to one chevron! There's no way to get rid of all the units stuffed in the corner hex, believe me, I've tried! It's been reported several times, and the team promised to fix it 3 years ago. A great shame. The Allied campaign is fine.

[h1] Excellent little war game[/h1] Easy to learn and full of subtleties, the first maps are relatively easy but the difficulty increases with the variety of units. For me a good value for money, relatively long game time for cheap price.

I loved the original game history line. I was so excited when they brought out this version of the game. the game has alot of bugs but the worst one is that on the german side level 22 won't load. how can they sell a game that you can't even finish. very sad. Steve

It's a remake of histline 1914-18. There's games that are spiritual successors, and then there's games like this. It's straight up the same game with different maps. This version is obviously worse, but histline is always good, so I got it. The graphics do not do the game any favors, and that's the only thing the devs changed. AI is not that great either. I'd say play histline instead. There are no differences in gameplay. The thing that mildly annoyed me is that the devs seem to be implying that their game is entirely unique in the trailer by using "new" and "indie". Reskinning and re-releasing a game from 1992 does not make it "new" or "indie".

Good game, enjoyed it. Remember me olds Panzer General games. The game AI is not hard enough but enough for fun. 8/10 for a game of this size

I enjoyed this game a lot but some people who would rather have a fast-pasted shooting game may not like t as much. This game can be tricky in some levels but if you keep trying new strategies you can persevere. I also like the historical dialog at the start of the game and each level. I would recommend this game to gamers who like strategy and history like myself. I would absolutely say buy it if its on sale and its worth your money at $9.99

Pros: Easy to pick up and play. If you've played a hex turn-based strategy game before, you'll be right at home. The history texts are interesting to read. 48 scenarios to beat, which kept me busy for many hours. Cons: Game is buggy as hell. Sometimes your production list won't work (scrolling). Sometimes levels don't load. You'll have enemy units try to capture a building using their cavalry but it'll get stuck in a walking animation and you'll have to reload your game to continue and hope it doesn't make the same move again. The game can freeze when you capture enemy HQ so save before you do so, just in case. The game also seems unfinished. There should be titles on the buildings when you click on them. If you click on a factory it should say "Factory" and on a "Barn" well...you get the point. There is no text on there, it's strange. The A.I. is very, very weak. Most of the time you can make a straight beeline to their HQ and win. The A.I. doesn't leave a few units back home to defend so it's too easy to use this strategy. Summary: Despite the fact that my "cons" side is larger, I still enjoyed my time with Spirit of War and recommened it to strategy fans. Just make sure you get it on sale. The devs don't deserve full price for this because they haven't fixed the level loading bug which would let us finish the German campaign.

Good strategy war game with all the forces you need. You can generate forces in your bases if you generate enough cash as the game goes on, but if that gets too easy, you can play the game without generating forces, now you do have a battle on your hands. Recommend for all ages. I am 75 !!!!!

A notable game in that it actually attempts to educate the player with a summary of the main points of World War One, so thats quite fun! learning something while playing... however the gameplay itself is a bit dull and tired, there really is nothing innovative here and its a standard hex battle game lacking polish. Annoying little things like the screen not centering upon unit selection, the maps all looking almost exactly the same in each scenario, the A.I not being particularly smart, and sadly the occasional game crash made me decide to uninstall this and concentrate on other things as time is too precious a resource! This game is okay, its 6/10, but given its price and basic gameplay, there are better hex based strategy games out there.

Took a chance on it. I like Miniatures games and this is a mini's game simulation complete with a tabletop. It's a WWI era turn based combat game, similar to Advance Wars for you younger guys. The intro makes War World 1 history acctually sound interesting, and the game play was pretty easy to understand. Could use a little QA work. There's some language issues with the tutorial screen. I suspect the devs do not speak english as thier native langauge. TL;DR: Not bad, worth $10.
