You know it's a successful retro game when you feel like screaming and vomiting from frustration while simultaneously having a ton of fun. I highly recommend this!

I love the way this game looks. I find it gorgeous. I also had fun playing it. I'm a solo indie game dev, who has been trying to finish a game for over two years, so I'm very jealous of your output.

Hard game thank god for the save points or would have taken wayyy more then 3 hours total time would like to play a sequel of it but i got to say some of the levels was to easy and some to hard and you could even find ways to help you via area that i think wasn't intended.

This game is very Interesting, the game was fun and simple and the style of this reminds me of old console game mixed with atari and sega old consoles. I really like it and i would recommend this game. <3

Honestly. I was surprised by this game. 4.50 CAD is a good price for a solid run and gun shooter. It's punishing gameplay with forgiving checkpoints made me want to keep playing a little longer. Recommended for an afternoon if you're looking for a good experience and enjoy run and gun shooters.

Fun game but that mech boss was a pain in the neck. Gotta be quick on the move and quick with your shooting if you want to survive the enemies and environments. I enjoyed my time with it.

Originally a 5 chapter browser game available on newgrounds, now made its way on steam in a standalone version with some extra features. Out of all the ‘retro’ styled games that try to mimic the feel of previous eras in gaming this title is one of the few successful games to actually pull it off, from the graphics, to the music and the simplicity on it’s gameplay, it’s well executed all around but doesn’t pretend to be anything beyond a top down shooter. It takes some ideas from old Sci-Fi stereotypes and it’s amusing on its execution. Vaporizing weapons, Russians on Venus, Ninjas, a protagonist rockin’ a hair style, you name it. It provides some good chuckles and the game doesn’t take itself seriously, is all for fun and the game is a good time, albeit a bit repetitive after a while. It offers a good challenge, especially on the Hard Mode which is available for this version of the game after beating it for the first time, the difficulty can be a bit frustrating, especially on the latter levels on Hard Mode, but the game has a checkpoint system and infinite life’s, so it doesn’t become infuriating. It’s not a long game, and I managed to get all achievements in less than 5 hours, but the price tag is fair for what it offers, I think the creator deserves some credit, and if you’re unsure about it, you can try the original browser version of the game (Which goes under the same name) and make your opinion out of it, that’s how I made my choice to purchase it and I don’t regret it.

Venusian Vengeance is a nice retro comeback.
Story
Set in an alternate history Cold War, players take control of Jon Dagger, an American agent sent to destroy a Soviet facility built on Venus. That's the beginning and end of it. There is a goofy little twist of sorts at the very end, but if you've come here looking for great characters or a gripping narrative; you'll be disappointed.
Gameplay
Vengeance is a top down run and gun action game. Jon always has a basic pistol that does moderate damage at a slow rate of fire, but players can also find limited time rockets, machine guns, and a strange weapon that fires shots which bounce off wall. VV keeps things very simple. Instead of throwing enemies at you that all have multiple attacks, every enemy in the game has only one means of harming you; save for the very final area. The challenge instead comes in overcoming different enemy compositions while contending with the layout and hazards of the environments such as bomb dropping birds or character shifting conveyor belts. In fact these sections of the game are often more satisfying to move through than the very simple boss encounters, though each boss does make an effort to at least attack you in a way you've not dealt with yet; even if that's the only attack they have. Hard Mode is the best way to play the game as it nails crossing challenge with fun almost perfectly. Only a few encounters will make you throw up your hands wondering if the game is even fair, but eventually you'll get past them as well with a little luck and some trial and error. VV isn't a deep game, but it is fun.
Presentation
Using a pixel art style and chiptune sound, VV isn't exactly going to blow your socks off in the art department. Enemies and areas are clean and readable which is what's most important for the gameplay. The music fits the mood but doesn't stand out on its own as anything special, and for some reason the sound of a gun firing makes the same noise as a barrel hitting the floor. Ultimately the package just serves as a means of giving context to the gameplay, which is fine.

I tried to play retro 90's hardcore games like ninja gaiden. Alas I am not hardcore and a human being with normal hands. So I could not play them without becoming enraged and damaging my device. Then I tried this game and yes it did feel like the fun parts of the 90's games except it was not so hardcore that my head exploded with rage because my hands wouldnt do what they couldn't. When you die their is minor punishment, its got a great price, and the games story is actually very entertaining!

This is great game. Takes me back to the early 90s If you love nostalgia and retro games, then this is for you. It is a continous moving game, where you can continue after each death without being punished for doing so, making replayability a joy and it ensures that you will go and finish the game IMHO. I don't actually have anything bad to say about it. It's well priced, its retro, AND it has both cards and achievements. A winner - get it. PS the DEV is active.
