If Benoît Sokal makes you think of Syberia, you might expect Sinking Island to have a similar atmosphere and charm—but you’ll likely be disappointed. The story is solid and the scenery is beautiful, but the pacing is quite slow. The dialogues are excessively long, and most of what’s said doesn’t really advance the story.
Traveling between locations is also tedious. The main character, Jack Norm, responds slowly, and you have to walk the entire distance in a scene—there’s no option to double-click to skip movement like in many other adventure games.
I’m currently playing this game for the second time and plan to finish it, but I’m not enjoying it as much as I hoped. However… if you try it in “against time” mode instead of standard adventure mode, it could feel like a completely different experience.
