the game is amazing!! it can influence you for yourself, it can help you understand sometimes more easily the people around you an the story is completed and complicated. about the environment is a platform game and has beautiful background. the music and the black grey and white colors are what you need for this. i had left speechless. i love it.

I think some of the lore/story gets a little lost in translation, but because I got this game when it was on sale, I don't regret buying it. The backgrounds are absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere is wonderful. There's one particular puzzle that's REALLY difficult. All in all, I think my experience was positive. Definitely not negative, but not stellar, either. I think if some of the plot didn't get lost in translation it would be better; also, allowing us to read the clues to the puzzle more than once would be nice....

I found this game during the steam summer sale of 2017 and I fell in love with the art style. There are very few keys you press to play (the arrow keys, Q,W,E, and I) and no hint section if you get stuck somewhere. This game forces you to be patient. The puzzles aren't overly difficult. And they match the story of a very sad man trying to figure himself out. My one con is there are events that you activate that almost blew out my eardrums. No matter how much I tried to turn it down it was so loud. I give this game 7/10 Chicken Whistles.

For me, it was a magnificient experience that I truly enjoyed beginning to end. Maybe I'm getting too old or too weird. Or maybe this game is what games should become, self-distanced and self-aware enough to show us who we are. *Keep your mind busy.*

This game is so boring, I became an alcoholic and heroin addict; all in just 2 hours... GOD ALMIGHTY, is this one senseless, boring mess! I seem to have nerves of steel to get through this sorry excuse of a "game". Just stay away, no need to even thank me! Oh, on a side note: if you wanna quit the game it stops responding... so really the only way is to rage-quit. How fitting!

An emotional experience about the torments of a man plagued by the “guilt” of his mother's suicide (“shadow”). Set in a black and white pencil drawn world, the player guides the mentally ill protagonist through a succession of dreams/nightmares. To advance in the game, we have to solve simple puzzles to unblock passageways or unlock memories. The pace is slow, giving the time to the player to immerse itself in the dark atmosphere of the game. And the game can be finished in one setting, which I would recommend in order to not lose the connection to the story. In all, a very beautiful game.

So, this is yet another gloomy indie game about psychological disorders. There's little to say about this one. In its own genre it's probably OK. The visuals are stylish and the sound design is quite awesome. But the story doesn't really catch your attention. The monologues and occasional dialogues are quite unnatural. And the gameplay part just plainly sucks. You walk slowly, you need to backtrack the levels all the time, it's surprisingly hard to find a proper spot to start climbing a ladder. So, all in all, as a game this thing kind of fails. Some people will like it, I'm sure. But personally I'm not a fan.

The Guilt and the Shadow is technically a puzzle platformer, but this gameplay primarily exists as a way for the player to emerse themselves in THGATS' creepy atmosphere. The puzzles never get complex, and the 'platforming' does not even include a jump button, but here it works; everything works together to bring across the oppressive and hostile headspace of the game's protagonist. The game can be finished in a Saturday afternoon, and I would recommend doing so in one sitting. The game's story if focused on the protagonist attempting to work his way through his grief and depends on each level setting a mood that is capitalized on in the next.

This game was like a punch to the gut. The whimsical art style matches the slow, subtle psychological horror perfectly. I was worried at first that the strange graphics would make this less enjoyable, but after starting the game it definitely fits. Overall the puzzles were simple and the game quite short (I finished it in three hours), but the experience is definitely a memorable one! You play as a man suffering from mental illness as he tries to deal with his fractured memories and thoughts. A majority of the plot is told through flashbacks via floating text and disconnected psychiatric evaluations. It gets progressively darker as the story progresses. All in all this is a simple puzzle game definitely worth experiencing!

One of the best buy's of 2015 so far :) It's a bit like "neverending nightmares"... Only better. The level design is lovely and everything just works. The puzzles are simple enough but there is a bit of random key pressing in the game sometimes to get things to work. Hopefully that can be patched. Apart from that, the story seems to unfold nicely and has a dark tone. It's a slow game, reminds me a little of "Year Walk" in it's pacing and atmosphere. Well worth the money!
