It has been a bit fun, but the structure of the levels felt very incomplete and meaningless to explore, and everything seems to aim to be so imprecise, and for the bosses most of the time is about how much will they stay up in the air to annoy you more than being truly difficult. I mean, one of the bosses towards the end (not the final one) was using that mechanic in quite an interesting way, but that's it. I had fun because there was an interesting physical homing attack, but I feel a lot of wasted potential in this game

I rage quitted to the yliaster level.
that level is garbage.
some of the developers thought "let's make the visuals of the level worse than the other levels for no reason and desighn it such way so the player will end up dying of things that he can't see".
the game in general isn't that good.
it is not a fighting game but the complexity of the combat does somewhat give me fighting game vibes.

I wish there was a button for "eh" but you can only do yes or no, so I'll do yes because I know this game is still being updated and it's a small team so I'm willing to be pretty lenient.
CODE Bunny is a speed game with level design that kind of doesn't want you to go fast. Maybe this is a skill issue on my part, and I am certain that if I dedicated more time to the game I definitely COULD go faster, but the movement doesn't feel rewarding enough for me to even dedicate that time in the first place. I was sort of expecting something more like Gravity Rush, but as far as Mega Man-likes go, this is on the lower end. (I THINK it's a Mega Man-like, idk it doesn't have copy weapons maybe it's more like Sonic)
Even besides issues with levels grinding to a halt at unsatisfying moments, there aren't really any especially interesting level gimmicks like mega man or even sonic-esque platformers are known for. there are some but they're kind of meh.
The girl one with the sword stands out as the more interesting and fun of the two player characters. Her base run speed is faster, she isn't nearly as slippery, and her abilities feel more conducive to forward movement. The ice skater guy is better at boss fights, though. Speaking of boss fights, kinda don't like the later ones. They introduce bullet hell patterns that it feels like your sprite is too big to squeeze through, and often aren't telegraphed.
Also the soundtrack is pretty boring and it is quite short.
Now for positives! I do have some! Visually the game is very pleasant. The pixel art is nice and the character designs are neat too. I don't particularly like or dislike bunnies but it's in the name of the game so yeah. they're solid bunnies as far as bunnies go. The story also definitely felt like it was trying to say something. I'm not 100% sure what that something is but it was something. with some rewrite I think there is potential for something really special here.
Overall I did have fun with sword girls campaign, much more than I did with ice skater guy but you should do ice skater guys first probably. it's easier and the story of the sword girls is harder to follow if you haven't player skaters first. If you buy the game I'd buy it on sale but I do think the dev team has some solid ideas here and wish them luck with future updates and projects

Supremely underrated hidden gem. Awesome platformer. With a great story and bosses to boot. Short and fun.
Axel is relatively hard to control. So she may feel clumsy at first. However, as you become more familiar with her, you will be able to bounce off enemies more effectively and maintain your acceleration.
Hazel is comparatively much simpler but still a ton of fun.

OK, so! I wanted to make a bit of a simple review after I did most of the content in the game and I gotta say- this game is well worth the buy and play through!
The two main characters have very different, yet familiar gameplay styles- you can think of Hazel as the "Mega Man" character and Axel as the "Sonic" character, with the levels being shockingly well designed for both of their kits. Hazel feels very so much designed around combat, while Axel feels more designed around platforming, yet even considering that both of the characters have specific advantages in the others main focus area- as an example, since the game has a stage ranking system and a combo system, Hazel might have an easier time keeping combos going for quite the long stretches within the stage, while Axel's main ability can allow him to easily dodge boss attacks Hazel struggles getting around. Due to this, I would argue that the characters are actually really well balanced and fun to control! What helps is the fact the the characters do honestly feel really smooth to control, with maybe some exceptions we'll get to later.
Onto the story, I don't want to give any major spoilers, though I will say this: Hazel's story is about a person who has kept their distance and secrets for so long that they struggle to open up to others for fear of what might happen, and Axel's is about learning to live for oneself and what to do in a situation where everyone you know has been secretive about very important things.
Aside from that, I really do appreciate the little hints the game gives to play the other routes for more character interactions- especially in the fact that depending on what path you choose for your first time, there will be unanswered questions and even completely dropped characters which could be seen as a bad thing but, that's why there are two stories. Personally, I found Axel's story a tad bit more impactful though that is more due to it being more directly relatable to me in particular. This is not to say Hazel's story is worse- both have their strengths, and both are very enjoyable rides. Axel's just hit that chord for me personally.
One cannot talk about this game without mentioning the music which, is honestly extremely catchy and fun- I haven't gotten the final stage's theme out of my head since I first heard it a few weeks ago. If you like 8-bit styled music, I think you might take a liking to Code Bunny's OST... although...
Post Game Spoilers below
After you defeat the final boss with... I think both characters, you unlock a boss rush, one that contains bosses from both stories, as both have one exclusive boss. This boss rush comes complete with esoteric dialogue about the nature of dreams and the lives the characters are living and if they are even worth the trouble, and of course a harder version of the final boss. It doesn't stop there though; after beating that, you are immediately dropped into "Another Dream". host to a beautiful background and the game's secret boss: The other main character.
Now this fight... this fucking fight is hair tearingly hard but oh my goodness once you get it.,. you get it.
And, funnily enough, these fights actually give you hints towards the other character's fight, for whenever you reach "Another Dream" with them, and by hints I mean that you learn what attacks are safe and what attacks should be used and even spammed.
Though I will say, Axel's "Another Dream" feels a bit more... difficult. This could be due to a lack of real damage avoidance on his part, a lack of ways to do consistent high damage without either missing or overcommittment, or honestly probably just a skill issue on my part- HOWEVER it is very nice to see a bit of a continuation for the character you are playing as after their story, when their "Dream" is fulfilled. A bit of closure, with a wink towards things to come.
Oh and, the music for these sections? Not 8-bit, instead we have good ol edm (probably dnb)! And it all sounds so, so good. Especially the secret boss theme, such a blood pumping theme that one.
A few semi critiques, since I maybe should leave some:
Axel's stages after stage 2 seem a bit... daunting to S rank? Skill issue I know but the combo counter goes from a rather manageable like 50 if i remember to over 100 and the rest of the stages stay at over 100 which may be more possible with the skill you unlock for him but I'm still unsure- Since this takes from the Kudos system from the ASG franchise, maybe killing enemies with skills could give a small addition to the combo meter? If it does then, my fault haha
I don't believe there is a way to view the stage ranks from the menu, which might be a thing in speedrun or classic (no story) mode but, truthfully there really should be some way to see the rankings from stage select.
Axel should get another style (Granted wouldn't make sense in story but it would be neat i think :3)
There should be a way to re-view the secret skills after you unlock them, to allow players who either forgot about them or mashed through the text to re read what it said.
Oh! Something else I just thought of- Maybe there could be a training area with a menagerie of invincible enemies to practice movement? Just as a side thing of course, this isn't really an issue I have.
Anyway. I love this game quite a bit and would recommend it to anyone who wants to play a short but sweet action platformer! Cheers!

Really love this game! Short but sweet 2D action platformer.
The gameplay mechanics are relatively simple to learn but have freedom and nuance you'll need to learn for S and S+ ranks. Hazel's mechanic is about locking onto enemies with projectiles then following up with a homing/teleport slash. Axel's mechanic is about maintaining your momentum from your spin attacks as you bounce between and on top of enemies like a figure skater. Both characters are fun and emphasize momentum to chain actions together for long parkour combos.
6 stages and bosses, with a separate Boss Rush and post-game boss at the time of this review. The normal stages and bosses aren't too hard on their own, though getting S and S+ ranks are a solid challenge. The Boss Rush and post-game bosses on the other hand are quite challenging, but very fair and rewarding to beat imo. The length for all of these aren't too long but it's a game meant for replaying.
Story was quite enjoyable. The pace was pretty fast, but the characters are quite fun with more drama and backstory than I anticipated. Hazel and Axel both are fun personalities with each story being similar but diverging for their own personal struggles that add different perspectives to the overall conflict.
Sprites and backrounds are fine, there's not a lot of enemy types but they are quite fun and unique. Music is pretty enjoyable too. Overall, if you like these sorts of 2D action games where you play for higher ranks, then I think CODE Bunny is quite worth the buy.
