Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria Reviews

Lots of feelings of Nostalgia while playing this. 1st part plays like Dragon Quest I, 2nd part plays like some aspects of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest IV (specifically thinking Torneko Taloon's chapter), and 3rd part reminds me of Locke's section from Final Fantasy VI, or possibly Rogue. Final section, of course is Minecraft. All throughout, you can capture monsters ala Dragon Quest V or Pokemon. Very enjoyable for the price. :)

Really enjoy this game. It is fairly short but is highly amusing. It feels very similar to early dragon quest/warrior games. It goes on sale fairly often and you can get it crazy cheap. I recommend picking this one up and if you like it grab the 2nd part too.

Hello Friends! Welcome to my review of Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria. This game plays like how the original version of Final Fantasy IV after years used to play as..in chapters. Basically, you have 4 chapters to pick from, and each has a main hero that you play in it as. I suggest playing them in order of 1,2,3, then M. This game is continued after ending to the second game, which is also on steam. i plan on playing it after this review. Yes, this is a RPG maker game, but it is done well. I did experience an error, and the monster recruiting change building was not explained at all, so i needed to figure that out on my own. So here are my pros/cons list: PROS: - Classic gameplay - Chapter oriented - Nice music CONS: -You may experience a bug where the game just shuts down. I did. I figured it was my screensaver, as this issue has happened with some older games before. - The fact the game does not end is kinda annoying. The good thing you can continue the story on the next game though. Hopefully it ends on that one. So i recommend this for old skool rpgers for the graphics and gameplay. I do not recommend for someone that wants graphics and a deep storyline.

As long as you go into this game understanding what it is, and isn't, I think you'll enjoy yourself. The game itself doesn't take things too seriously, I quite enjoyed many of the small jokes and puns. One thing I'll note is that it's obvious the developers of the game got better as time went on. Each subsequent chapter is generally better/smoother than the one before it. And the last chapter just tickled my funny bone to no end!

This game was great on Vita, and it's amazing on steam deck. On desktop it's a bit rough, since it takes over everything and is a bit of a pain to deal with as a desktop game.

Game crashes too often. Seems like it would of been a great game if not for that. Crash seems to be when I go to use an item or spell and cancel the action and/or when I go into a character xp screen and exit out of it. The game crashes and exits me out to desk top. : (

“Dragon Fantasy” is a humorous and somewhat unusual JRPG game – in fact a collection of several short JRPGs that give tribute to older classical games, connected by a central storyline. Main plot revolves around the abduction of the crown prince, and the aging hero of the kingdom that sets out on a quest to rescue him. Aside the main story, there are three branching sub-stories told from the point of view of some of the NPCs. Game features simplified combat mechanics which is slightly different for each story, retro-style graphics and music. Gameplay is reasonably short and not too grindy (with the exception of the main story, where you need to take a bit more time to develop the hero) and can be finished in a few hours, and the price is reasonable, certainly worth buying if you are a JRPG collector.

Remember Dragon Warrior? Well this game is Dragon Warrior like it used to be...with some added humor. The game plays great...and looks great too from a nostalgic point of view. The humor is light and makes the game fun, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. If you want something that plays like an old NES RPG, then you have found it here. But if you like the current style of games like Final Fantasy 12 and up....you might want to avoid this. That is the easiest way to tell if you can handle this game and have a good time. I am glad i got it.

This is a fun and interesting little JRPG. While it appears to be only the first chapter of the "Volumes of Westeria", it works well on its own. Great gameplay, fun plot, and interesting mechanics. Would recommend getting on discount, but otherwise very good. Note: There appears to be a sequel called The Black Tome of Ice. I may have to check that out in the future...

Great game, if you grew up playing RPG's like Final Fantasy and Dragon's Quest on your NES then this will bring back some wonderful memories. Fun light hearted RPG that's pretty straight forward and all around fun game to kill some time with. Enjoyable poking around and seeing what funny dialog you can find from random bookshelves or NPCs.
