8.5/10 Such a cool game that even though I knew the story already I bought it just because I think this game is so cool, and even if I didn't finish it I still love this game so much even if the gameplay isn't crazy. I PROMISE you that
when Psychopomp 2 comes out I will play it blind because I already know it'll be peak
e

strange and disturbing for sure. really enjoy the design for this game, surreal atmosphere and attention to changes of details in environment over time in game. feels like something you'd play on an old playstation and follows the movement of a first person dungeon crawler

[SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE GAME!] I've been DYING to get to this one since I absolutely ADORED the original so much. Note that I will be drawing many comparisons between the original version and this version. So, let's plop our helmets on, grab our hammers, and let's get back into the gritty abstract world of Psychopomp once again!: The Story & Characters The story has been GREATLY expanded upon since the original. There's some slightly rewritten and new dialogue that expands on the lore of the levels in the original, and the new levels have just as much detail. The new lore here is presented in ways that meld in perfectly with the pre-established lore and add a lot of depth and mystique to the world and its characters. I won't say much more since but I will say they certainly took the story up a notch and it's even more of an amazing experience than the original. In the characters department, there isn't too much to say, but some of the new NPCs that are here have great lines, and characters like the King of Mercury got to be explored a teeny bit more in-depth. We'll have to wait til the sequel drops to see what we've got coming up next. The Queen of Venus/C'venash Vishneri also got quite a bit more exploring and it seems that she and Mercury go back, apparently meeting at some point a long time ago, judging by the context, they were children and I'm quite curious to see if they'll come together and reunite. So while there aren't too many new characters added here, the existing ones were given more to them and it all works pretty well, which is all I can ask for from a game like this. The Gameplay Not as much to say here. The only notable gameplay change outside of the new places to explore with the Home feature that lets you walk around in a 3D space with sprites is the addition of the third-person mode (as a game completion reward, which kinda stinks because they sure loved showing it off in the trailer and you don't even get to use it until after you finished the game.) There's also the call feature, which allows you to get some extra lore if you dial the right numbers. The movement and combat are pretty much the same, though some of the new enemies do take a lot of hits and it tests you on how well you know how to use the melee'ing system in this game combined with the movement. There are plenty of new hidden locations to explore if you see them pop up on the map (though getting them to appear is a bit of a pain), and they do provide more lore of the world a lot of it makes you question what The Queen of Venus/C'venash Vishneri is and serve as a nice way of giving people who are avid lore and secret hunters like me things to find. Don't forget about those Emerald keys... The Visual & Sound Design Probably, once again, my favorite part about this time. For starters, the old environments have been given touch-ups, with more objects in them and lighting adjustments that give them a bit more atmosphere than before. The new areas are all INCREDIBLE in their visuals (use of colors and scale especially) and atmosphere and are just as good as, if not better than, the earlier levels. The game continuously becomes more and more abstract, and you get to see how nightmarishly abstract yet oddly beautiful it gets. Without giving away too much, it was all eye candy to someone who likes super out-there abstract places with super cool architectures and atmospheres; it's just such a treat. And I can't forget about that soundtrack...it's once again SUPERB! A couple more vocal tracks, more ambient tracks for the quieter moments, and to even further sell the atmosphere for the levels, ethereal tunes for the more abstract moments, and catchy tunes for everything else in between. It's all solid, and listening to the soundtrack while writing this as well as checking out Karbonic's other work REALLY makes me appreciate the love they put into it, I can't get enough of it. It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but to me, it was eargasmic music throughout. The Verdict Psychopomp Gold is no doubt a MASSIVE step-up from the original and made me fall in love even harder with a game I already loved originally. It takes everything great about the first one and adds more to it without compromising the original experience AT ALL, truly making it an even better experience. If you're looking for something more out there and or maybe are super curious, it's only $9 and probably goes on sale for even cheaper. I certainly got MY money's worth from this game and then some. It's a one-of-a-kind game and truly one of the favorite indies up there with greats like VA-11 Hall-A and Celeste (a weird trinity, I know.) All I can say now is...I'll be there for that sequel no matter what...

Gameplay is not what you are here for. It's the atmosphere, the sound design, the eerieness, the visuals that will either leave you in awe, unsettled, or laughing. And it's also the story that you slowly learn along the way. And the dialogue. I have a very short attention span, and I didn't skip a single line in this game. Also, the music is genuinely amazing, despite the fact this game has many ambient soundscapes that lull you into a feeling of dread. Genuinely, art. I love this game, and have thought about it everyday since i first played it.

Gameplay tip:Don't feel bad for murdering anime-girl-faced creatures, they deserve death. Real world tip:During the times where Brazil was in a dictatorship backed by the USA, an intact american nuclear bomb was found in an unspecified region with no one in it, the fact however was quickly covered up with barely any mention of it today, instead being overshadowed by another incident involving nuclear waste spill on the city of Goiânia.

Terrible game. Unforgettable experience. Genuinely a must play. 10/10 Real life tip: You are born with fingernails stored inside your hands, and they are slowly pushed out as you age in a process called keratinization. Once you run out of fingernail, you die.
