Overall I feel that the game has a great foundation as a sandbox that I can spend hours playing though there are several issues that remain largely unaddressed. Firstly I find that the game is very heavily scripted with certain events firing and taking countries out of your sphere with little agency given to the player. If the player is given a heads up about this information a few turns in advance or if there is a event tree to handle crises such as those it would make the game feel a lot less arbitrary. Second is that I feel the defcon system isn't particularly meaningful and it doesn't feel particularly connected to other systems, nor can the player influence it outside of rare events. Thirdly is that I feel that the world is quite static once the lines are drawn out with it being difficult to bring countries to your side through espionage and the military invasion system particularly intuitive with the AI being able to counter invade the player immediately after your invasion concludes. Though I think that the US shouldn't be able to dismantle the iron curtain in the 50's I think that the player should be given that capability as they progress especially in a longer campaign. The US also has a lot of domestic issues that you just can't interact with and while it is historical it's not engaging whatsoever. Finally I feel that there should be a way to call for an early victory of some sorts of you are significantly in the lead. In my two wars playthrough I had a massive post lead on the Soviets and had their prestige in the dumps, but I couldn't really do much so the game effectively just became me passing turns to see something interesting. In conclusion, I think that the game has great potential but just as many issues. The game is fairly cheap and in its current state I got a good 6 hours of entertainment out of it. I hope to see more out of this game and I feel that the current price is more than reasonable for what is present. Therefore I would recommend this game.
