Very fun story line. It's a "golf" style card game, but they give you power ups so you can chose how you play. Very entertaining if you like card games, and a good story line. Better than Regency Solitaire.

I got Regency Solitaire in a humble bundle, way back, and had a good time playing it. I played the sequel as well, and thought the addition of persistent upgrades between rounds was a great improvement. Shadowhand Solitaire has taken that idea and run with it, and that's what makes it a vastly better game than either of the Regency games. The solitaire itself is as simplified as possible, even going so far as to remove face cards, just using 0 through 9 in a ring. This is to make room for the real star of the show: the inventory system, stats, active and passive abilities. RPG elements, in my solitaire game? It's more likely than you think. The sense of player progression and empowerment is slow, measured, and palpable. Every time I finish a chapter, going to the shop feels like christmas, and re-equipping my character to tweak my various stats is just as fun as big budget games like Diablo or Borderlands. I love that the stats aren't the boring "strength, dexterity, intelligence" and instead include stuff like Guile and Prosperity. It's super fun to go into a duel looking like an absolute nincompoop, knowing my stats are So Buff. The active and passive abilities are great, and having to pick a limited number of them to carry into any encounter means they feel more meaningful when I use them. The items and abilities even interact with each other, equipping certain pairs gets you set bonuses. I wish there were a lot more to pick from. I would especially enjoy a "Remove all face-up cards with the given number" active ability, to get me out of the situation where I'm stuck with 4 face-up 6's as my only options. I rarely do this in my reviews, but for once, I have a suggestion for the next game: Go further. Make the later levels of the game completely untouchable if you don't have the appropriate equipment and skills. Hide various upgrades under piles of cards that can't be tackled when they're first encountered, and encourage the player to come back later with better abilities and take on that big foe for the sweet, sweet loot. Make side quests, chains of levels that are fully optional but have worthwhile loot benefits (both items and money) for taking them on. Make it really hard to finish the main quest without doing at least a couple of those. Hide a required quest item in an unlikely side quest in the early game, just to make the player go back there near the very end, and frolic in wiping the floor with an early level, now that they have full gear. Make a full blown RPG that uses solitaire instead of dice rolls. That said, I cannot comment on the story for this game because I skipped every cutscene. This has nothing to do with the writing, I'm sure it's fine, I simply cannot stand the Visual Novel format. I've even gone so far to block it as a tag on Steam, so VN games simply don't show up for me in the store. Despite being totally uninvolved in the story, I still had a great time playing.
