Originally got this for custom zombies, which is a dream come true when mod support became a thing for this game. Game used to be amazing: great graphics, great mods, and it was very well optimized. Today, it still looks good and same with the mods, but now it just runs terribly! I'm not even sure what happened or what changed. Now you need all these third party patches to play the game without issue, and about 90% of them seem to have issues with some mods or so. While it's nice to have some security, this game is PLAGUED with stuttering. T7Patch used to fix this but now it doesn't any more??? That was the best option for me since it didn't break any mod compatibility whatsoever until the stuttering fix just didn't work any more. CleanOpsT7 I thought would be it but then it broke some custom maps or just wouldn't let them load. I finally got to BO3Enhanced and it fixed the stuttering, but just like the others, mod compatibility is an issue and you lose the ability use text chat. Would not recommend getting this game for the zombies at this moment.

This game will cheapen the FPS experience. What do I mean?

Because it is so poorly coded you will get hung up on environmental objects quite often. Great way for the A.I. (campaign) or someone else (multiplayer) to get an easy kill on you.
Your character may not be able to make simple environmental jumps or mantles he should be able to do easily. I remember one section in the campaign I had to press the button 7 times before he jumped up the ledge.
Sh*t shots rule the day. To be fair it works both ways and you can get them in on enemies with shots you should not be able to make, but it's just a sad reality in this game.
The story is questionable at best and downright laughable at the worst. I also didn't appreciate I couldn't decide what happens in the Rachel Kane subplot.
The voice actor for the protagonist should never work in the voice acting business ever again. They could have picked a hobo off the streets to do a better job for a ham sandwich and a 40 ounce malt liquor.
Here's what I liked:

The weapons are cool although most of them are weak and I can count on two hands the total number of them which have decent stats.
I liked the idea of outfits yet later in the game many of the cutscenes and cinematics revert back to the default outfit that they programmed for that scene which makes me wonder why did they bother to let me choose an alternate outfit.
The cybernetic abilities are cool, but only 3 are actually useful. You can pretty much ignore the rest.
One thing I will give them credit for is many of the environments are beautiful and feel alive. Not all are great, but the ones that look really good go above and beyond in aesthetics. They have a really nice visual style, nice coloring and the right amount of lighting. You will know which ones I'm talking about when you see them.
A lot of the accolades and medals for your service record can only be obtained with multiple playthroughs, but this game is nowhere near good enough to suffer through more than once. It's painful. Multiplayer isn't that great either. P.S. - Despite having a high end gaming rig I noticed a bit of microstuttering through cutscenes, cinematics and sometimes gameplay. Nothing major, just enough to break immersion. I looked into the best graphics settings for performance and it continued to happen. I was beginning to think it was my hardware until I installed Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and played through the first mission which was buttery smooth. Treyarch just doesn't know how to optimize their game; not only did Infinity Ward create a more optimized game with better performance, it looks better as well.

This fucking game. I can't, in good conscience, recommend anyone play this. Sure; this game is actually a work of art, and its community is amazing, but there are so many problems its unreal, and impossible to deal with in 2025. - You like to use a controller For Zombies? If you run into any issues, (and you will) causing you to contact the internet sleuths for answers and support, expect everyone on the discussions and support pages to despise you for using controller. In a PvE mode. Even though its more comfortable. - Hope don't like using your controller anyway, because the Games DRM protection forces steam to be open in the background. I have disabled all controller support in steam, even used HidHide, and still steam recognises the controller, causing my right stick to disconnect my controller from the game, unplayable. - Its nice to see DRM still in play when the game has REMOTE CODE EXPLOITS! honestly, the fact that hasn't been a reason to boot this game off the store page (when it CLEARLY would be a viable reason) when people are complaining that their WORKSHOP is being TAMPERED with?! When those scripting like this in multiplayer can skim every ban because steam doesn't have the legal right to moderate the game. - Speaking of which, without any input from Treyarch, the workshop and modding community is now a massive risk to even try to play most maps. I've had; Maps that corrupt my game, workshop scripts that cause the game to softlock until reinstall... There's less malicious code and more trolling on the workshop, but even trying to play online multiplayer in this game will get a remote access trojan installed from shenzen china straight up your ass. - There's a public patch, sure, but that doesn't stop the modmenu's. I love stepping into a game when the level 1000 richtofen pops 700 gobblegums and breaks my game, causing the game to go blackscreen any time I open the zombies menu. Hopefully the fact that older CoD's are getting support due to re-releases on gamepass, I doubt that any PC fellows will ever get shown the same love. This is getting to the point where liabilities actually have to be questioned here; according to the UK's Product Regulation and Metrology Act. online marketplaces are expected to prevent unsafe products from being made available to consumers, and ensure that sellers operating on their platform comply with product safety obligations and provide relevant information to consumers depending on the dangers. Legally speaking, there should be a bright red warning on the steam store page, stating what state the game is in and what dangers are in place, but no, there's not even a warning on World at war, an older call of duty with even worse RCE exploits and dangers. Not saying steams in the wrong here, just stop pointing blame and fix the damn issue.

Download the CleanOpsT7 patch if you want to play MP safely! For Zombies download the T7 Patch and apply the custom games plugin that lets you earn xp and achievements when playing with mods or custom maps while allowing you to play safely as well! This game is goated, easily a top 5 cod due to zombies + workshop support alone.
