This game is raw, looks like a boring ♥♥♥♥ at a first hours, but have big potential. Artstyle, gunfights, worldbuilding is very good, but another elements... UI is jumble of icons and buttons and takes a long time to get used to. The game's maps are quite small and empty with only one or two truly significant POI around which most teamfights will take place (excluded Cryo Archive - this is pure chaos and labyrinth of pain). Economy is good for now, but need more tuning. Most of the in-game cosmetic items and seasonal rewards are ♥♥♥♥ (Bungie, why are you selling recolors? They should be available as in-game rewards). And this is not all, but...i really like this game. Marathon is exactly what I've wanted see in Hunt Showdown - challenging lore-based pvpve game, where i can play with my friends, discuss lore, enjoy emotional rollercoaster of win and losses. Maybe Marathon sucks as extraction shooter now, but we need more popular options than EfT and ARC Raiders in genre

I want to like the game i like the visuals and really like the world the games set in but the game really lacks in helping new players understand how the game works especially as a new player to the extraction genre. which is a shame because as a result ive lost all desire to play. The games learning curve is far to steep wich is the reason i think a lot of players have already left the game.

I want to like this game. It fits my criteria for a game that I like. The aesthetics, the post apocolyptic scenery, gunplay, match to match gameplay, loot chace, solo experience positive, more stealth focus sometimes, proximity chat being fun when people use it and more.
But right now, it doesn't fit my "fun" itch enough. It is fun when your not in a match with sweats who know the ins and outs, or versing players who are just chilling/doing their contracts. Its fun when you are doing the more PvE oriented objectives. It's fun playing solo and using stealth to pass multiple players or pull off standing still and having them walk past you. It is fun when you feel like you have a chance in the match to win or beat other players as well as the pve enemies.
But theres not enough drive to play matchs outside of the experience. Theres contracts but eventually they end up feeling like a checklist, plus any that have voice overs for story content, get immediatly ignored because of how intense being in a match is when you know a player could be near by without you knowing.
With PvE only content I think that this may be a better gaming experience but as souly an extraction shooter it is not meeting the potential it can reach.
However, to add to my this, Bungie and Sony have lost all my trust and loyalty with the mistreatment of their flagship game Destiny. I am not going to sit here and say you shouldn't play Marathon because of Destiny's death. If you enjoy marathon and want to keep supporting it, go for it. If you want to support Marathon to get a Destiny 3 or something, let me remind you of Titanfalls fate. Titanfall had two games made that both didn't meet expectations dispite being revolutionary and amazing games. Due to this, Apex was made, titanfall players like myself tried the game and some stayed, some didn't, but we supported the game because it was the only successful game from that universe. Respawn continued to express their interest in titanfall while continually tarnishing what lore and stories that took place in those games to the point that now the titanfall era is now retconned pretty much. No Titanfall 3 or similar is in the works or announced. Its been years. The original Titanfall you can't even play and Titanfall 2 is struggling to survive aside from the modded client.
I can't bring myself to play Marathon with how I as a player have been treated from Destiny. Like a toxic relationship I do not plan to have the same fate in Marathon.
If you like extraction shooters with good gunplay and good story coupled with a unique aesthetic that is easy to pick up and play, go ahead. Marathon is a solid game, maybe not for $60 but it is a good game.
For the treatment from Bungie to me a loyal Destiny player, I won't recommend it in hopes that it encourages them to put more effort into their treatment of players and improve Marathon to be better

Stop those stupid "balance plans" because your actions are exacerbating the imbalance among players and causing more people to leave the game, especially since those "TOP players" already got a bunch of golden equipment in the first week, and NOW you want to make it even harder for "LOSER" players to get good equipment, right? You want me to always wear some junk sponsor and fight with those "top players"?
DO THESE IF YOU GUYS REALLY WANT THIS GAME STAY ALIVE:
1. Revert map drop rates to Season 2 launch levels. 2. Add a durability mechanic: after each extraction, all equipped gear loses 1 durability.
A Material Stabilizer can exempt one or more items from that loss (balance possible). 3. Looting penalty: each time an item is looted, its durability drops by 2; when ≤2, it’s fixed at 1.
4. Death penalty: all equipped items lose 1 durability per death, once per match.
5. Destruction: if durability hits zero and isn’t looted, the item becomes broken and converts to Credits post‑match.
The goal: give lower‑tier players a better experience, reduce frustration from losing good gear, and curb top players’ endless hoarding. Suggestions 2–5 target resource accumulation among elites.

Bungie Devs are removing parts of the game that make it fun for some people. Their sponsored survival option has been removed after 3 weeks. The "Casual" gamers are not going to have things to do and will end up leaving a very small playerbase. Future after season 3 looks bleak without much of a playerbase as they keep pushing people out.

It's pretty good.
The game is dripping with artistic style, but relatively generic gameplay-wise. Everything about the game feels like it's priming you for another layer to be broken through.
The story is hinting at great mysteries, the world has huge stakes and many parties involved, there is weird ghostly stuff in the level... but this never reaches the gameplay. You shoot players and robots and collect loot.
Destiny suffers from the same thing at times, but then has the moments that break through and really trap you with the story and gameplay all combining together. Feel that part is missing here.
Soundtrack bangs.

I didn’t like it at all, just got obliterated immediately and had no idea what to do. I like the art and the atmosphere and lore, that’s why I bought it, but it was just not fun for me. It’s definitely not for everyone.
Also it seems unlikely this game will be supported for long as Bungie got gutted by Sony, and that included significant Marathon staff.
I thought I was supporting Bungie but it was clearly not the case. I can’t support this and let Sony have my money for this game I didn’t even like ; I asked for a refund and got it refunded.

I originally tried Marathon because it was available for free, but I actually enjoyed it enough to buy the game afterward. The core gameplay feels interesting and there is definitely potential here.
However, the UI feels very overwhelming and even a bit claustrophobic at times. For a new player, many things are not easy to understand, and the game does not explain itself very well. It takes more effort than it should to figure out what is going on.
The biggest problem for me is that the game feels too narrow, dark, and visually heavy. It can become tiring and uncomfortable very quickly. Around 50 of my friends started playing the game, but after only 3 matches, many of them said it felt too confusing, too cramped, and too suffocating to continue. The idea behind the game is good, but in its current state, it does not feel welcoming enough.
Another issue is that many players are not playing the game because most of the player base can be quite toxic. This creates a negative atmosphere and makes it harder for new players to enjoy and stick with the game.
Also, the lack of Turkish language support is really disappointing. Many games in this genre come with Turkish localization nowadays, so it feels strange and honestly unnecessary that Marathon does not include it.
Overall, I like the game and I do not regret buying it, but the UI needs improvement, the visual design should feel more open and comfortable, the community atmosphere should be better, and Turkish language support should definitely be added. The concept is strong, but the game needs to feel less dark, less cramped, and easier to understand for new players.
