After a full playthrough of the Reawakened first Fate game, and a partial playthrough of the second, this is what I have noticed so far.
Pros:
-Runs much smoother on Windows 11 than the CD-Rom and previous Steam versions of the Fate games.
-Works pretty well on Steam Deck, and can be synced across PC and Steam Deck.
-Graphics are better than the the original games.
-Features originally introduced in later games (such as new character races, new equipment slots, new pets, etc.) are usable in all games.
-Stats and skills menu is easier to read than in the original games.
-Can click on pet icon to feed pre-selected potion to pet.
-Pets and summoned creatures following the player character get stuck in corners far less often than in the original game.
Cons:
-Spell wheel is clunkier than in the original games.
-Keyboard shortcut to bring up pet inventory has been removed.
-Identify spell can no longer be activated while the inventory window is already opened.
-Stats and Skills menu is no longer visually themed to the game.
-Can no longer drag and drop potions onto the pet icon to feed to pet.
Ultimately, if you do not already have a copy of Fate (or any of the sequels) yet, or are tired of troubleshooting the original releases to make them work on a modern PC, Reawakened is an excellent value and an excellent game.

Game looks fantastic, and works well 99% of the time, but I've had items I was using disappear on my and my pet now which is incredibly frustrating and ruins the experience. This happened on The Traitor Soul

This remaster of the original Fate Quadrilogy keeps the charm of the original game, with a smoother user interface and better overall graphics. It's a perfect offline game.

I played this game years ago when I bought it on disc.
It was a good game, easy to get into it and grind endlessly on the levels.
Not much in the way of story, however. But if what you want is a dungeon crawl, here it is.

Overall Review
I've been having a great time with the game, especially with The Cursed King. It really captures the fun and randomness I remember from the older titles, and I'm glad to see it return with fresh elements. Here's a breakdown of my experience so far:
What I Enjoy
The Cursed King is incredibly fun and nostalgic.
I love the randomization of dungeons, weapons, and weapon magic — it keeps things feeling fresh and replayable.
Things That Could Be Improved
UI Changes: Like other reviewers mentioned, the UI could use an update. It would be great to have split-screen menus like in the older games, where you could keep one menu open on the side while still moving around. There also needs to be spell indicators of what spell is active on screen.
Inventory Icon: There 100% needs to be an inventory icon on screen like in the old games. It's very non-intuitive to have to press I to open the inventory every time.
Pet Inventory: You should be able to access your pet’s inventory when talking to vendors, not just sell all items at once. It’s not very user-friendly as it is now.
Bugs / Technical Issues
In The Cursed King, mercenaries always appear as female (Body B). I haven’t seen any male mercenaries show up.
The map has noticeable aliasing when zoomed out — could really use some cleanup.
Some retrieval quests don’t spawn the required item in the dungeon.
When running through dungeons, certain side support beams can completely block your movement. The character should path around them smoothly, like in the older games.
Conclusion
Despite the issues, I’m really enjoying my time with the game. It has a great foundation and brings back a lot of the charm I loved, but there are definitely areas that could use refinement. Looking forward to future updates!

I'm writing this as a first impressions semi-emergency review. I adore the original FATE games. I don't have thousands of hours or anything in them, but I greatly enjoyed what I played, and find them to hold up quite well for early 2000s PC games. This remake so far has left me disappointed and borderline angry with some of these design decisions. As of writing, I've only spent a little over an hour in the first game. The UI is outright inferior to the original. The new minimalist/modern menu aesthetic just reeks of Torchlight, rather than the medieval squiggles and bricks of FATE. The actual usage of the menus is abysmal. In the original, you press a hotkey to bring up a menu that covers either the left or right half of the screen, so you could view the game still. Now, there are still hotkeys but it's for a large menu that obscures the entire game screen, so even basic micromanagement is a massive chore now. If you want to move items to the pet inventory, there is no hotkey. You open the inventory, then click pet inventory to manage that. I also dislike needing to hold click in order to move things. A simple click and drag worked just fine. The worst changes so far are the spell system and hotkeys. Being unable to change key bindings in a PC game in 2025 is 100% unacceptable, and I want an explanation from the developers as to why this wasn't in the game by default. I don't even know other games in this genre that don't let you do that. The spell system nerf is just baffling. In the original, you can apply 5 spells to each category. Same here, except you can only apply 6 to the spell wheel of F1-6. Why can't this be like other video games where you can map whatever you have equipped to various keys? This feels like a nerfing of a mechanic stuck 20 years ago. Additionally, why not let us expand or customize the size of the spell wheel? It's incredibly cumbersome to use. I have faith that this remake can become a very good way of experiencing these wonderful games. They're still FATE at the core, and I have no reason to think the developers won't listen to the community. This is a very niche game and this remaster might hit an even smaller audience than the originals, but I'd like to think that can make the people working on this want to deliver a strong experience to a dedicated playerbase.

I wish I could enjoy this game.
If you have are new to the franchise, perhaps you might enjoy it but even then I cannot recommend it. I imagine the dev team is quite small or is constrained by company directives. For clarity I almost exclusively have played cursed king for hundreds of hours. That being said this feels more like an open beta than a full remaster. Lets go over the basics:
UI--
this is a big one and you will see it in many other reviews and thats because its a huge detraction. The devs have said themselves this is focused for console use/steam decks and not optimized for PC. This is obvious even without the statement.
The first thing I did when I opened the game was go to settings as I use an ultrawide monitor and usually like to adjust settings, especially for better graphics-- the main appeal of this remaster--however when I opened options, there was only one small minimal screen, a resolution choice, a brightness slider and a cursor clamp checkbox for the most part. No other options at all! When you go to controls there is only a graph and no rebind or listed descriptions. You are stuck with the keybinds they gave you.
The main minimalist ui as you play the game at the bottom is the most bare bones yet oversized icon placeholders I have ever seen. a few spell slot items, a sprint button, your weapon etc. You cant move the minimap from where it is and its stuck as a circle in the top right of your screen zoomed all the way in.
The inventory screen is minimal modern, same with all the other ui screens not at all like the old style due to console focus. all the screens have been bundled with tabs at the top which would be nice, except going into any screen pauses the game in full screen mode--no half screen inventory and movement, no pet inventory main inventory combo (In fact i couldn't open the pet inventory at all but SURELY there is a way and i was just being lazy.....)
Frankly I wish I had more to go on but this UI and the minimal clearly console oriented barebones layout felt truly lifeless and I almost immediately didn't want to go any farther.
Gameplay:
To be entirely honest I grabbed some quests and went right back into the palace of fire to feel some nostalgia and was disappointed. I didn't even go below the first level, just ran around to look at the graphics. The polearm animation was alright, had a snake glitch out of frame with iffy collision right away but seemed like a one off, overall im sure its probably okay.
Graphics:
This is the selling point of the remaster and.... Unfortunately it doesn't sell. Sure its "nicer" than the old versions, but the old versions had soul, and the new game feels more cartoonish. I can almost feel the gritty textures being cleaned for a wider audience capture. For example I reopened the original cursed king right away and I like a lot of the inventory icons--even less crisp as they are-- in that than the new 'clean' ones. Plenty of the mob remasters sure looked... more advanced and visually a bit better like the lighting, cubemaps, reflections etc. But it just dint mesh together into one cohesive vibe.
OVERALL:
The game lacks soul. Its a bland--technically more advanced--remaster that pairs all of the games together when they should have focused on one or made something new entirely. Its unashamed in its attempts at greater audience capture relying on fans to purchase out of nostalgia, and probably would be worth its price to new fans who never felt the soul of the old titles. However for fans of the IP its obviously missing a lot. I genuinely think something as simple as a drop-down menu between console oriented UI and computer based would fix 90% of the issues. However I have a sneaking feeling of downward support trending over time,
For now I will be refunding my purchase, but ill keep the game on my wishlist. I wish that the devs listen to fans and keep adding new improvements over time. I love the original titles and I wish I could like this game as well. Maybe ill make my own dungeon crawler game to cater towards what I am looking for but I cant reccomend this game in good faith as it is now.

Disclaimer, I've only played the original FATE and its remaster, cannot say about the other three games.
So far, I honestly don't see the fuss I'm seeing in these reviews. The remake feels almost exactly like the original, and I played them side by side here on Steam to make sure. The weird pathing has ALWAYS been an issue, I dearly remember my poor pet walking halfway around the map in the original when I played it all the way back in 2009. It happened so often it's a core memory for me playing this game. The top review about not being able to bring your pet back to sell items has been fixed.
Just like most games nowadays, it might need a bit more time in the oven but there seems to be a genuine effort to squash bugs and respond to feedback, seeing you can send your pet home to sell stuff now.
If you liked the original FATE, just get this one. It's the same game you've remembered and loved, with a modern UI.

This is a low effort remastering of a classic game that deserved more care and more time to bake in the oven.
The updated visuals here are the best part but a lot of the other aspects just feel off. It's a bit hard to describe and see until you actually play the game yourself.
Here are some but not all of the issues present :
AI and player plathing took a huge hit. Obstacle avoidance is really bad compared to the original games. Breakable objects are no longer highlighted. Swing animations are no longer varied and are missing early breakouts for new fast attacks. Attack ranges are off. The player overall runs way slower. Most of the ambient noises from the originals are missing. The amount of hotbar slots you get were reduced, you can't shift click to have your pet pick up things anymore and the list goes on and on and on. Inventory management just simply sucks here.
Usually when a game gets remastered new QoL is added into the game -- not taken away. That is so fucking lame.
There was a great opportunity here to add in local splitscreen co-op, online multiplayer, or ANY KIND of multiplayer functionality that would actually make this game have any lasting power. There was such a good opportunity here to have FATE last another decade but as it is this game will just fade into obscurity again because they took the low effort approach.
Save yourself your $25. If you're a big FATE fan then maybe wait until this goes on sale for $10. Or even better yet buy the original games. They are much better than this utter garbage dollar store ass rehashing.
