The only retail expansion pack for Guild Wars, this expansion adds significant advantage for the player via powerful PVE-only skills that improve upon gaining reputation with various factions, valuable heroes like an additional Mesmer (Gwen), Necro (Livia) and Ritualist (Xandra), 2 of which can be gotten pretty early (Gwen and Xandra), which helps any base game account with enough skills unlocked to power through content, especially if also combined with Guild Wars: Nightfall's heroes.
A character level 10 and above is needed to start the expansion. 4 new regions are added, expanding explorable areas in the continent of Tyria: Charr Homelands, Depths of Tyria (mostly consisting of 18 Dungeons), Far Shiverpeaks and Tarnished Coast. The main quest cover major arcs of encountering the Asura, Charr, Dwarves and Ebon Vanguard, creating a tie-in and base for Guild Wars 2 which is set 200+ years after.
The expansion also adds some unique headpieces, aside from 4 prestige armor sets. There's also short mini games like Polymock (something like Pokemon), Dwarven brawling, foot race and an arena style tournament.
A worthy expansion on its own right, and not just for adding Halls of Monument linking for Guild Wars 2.
