So after playing for 15h, the game and story is fine. Typical Ubisoft stuff with way too many collectibles and things to do.
But you need an online connection to ubisoft connect to play the game. So when their service doesn't work, you can't play this singleplayer game.
Just anti consumer practices as expected from ubisoft.

I still haven't been able to play due to requiring a Ubisoft account, Ubisoft won't send an email for password recovery and I can't create an account as my email is tied to an account. Guess Ubisoft hates its customers. Don't bother buying if you don't remember your information or hate Ubisoft.

This game is essentially Assassin's Creed: Hans Solo. If that sounds appealing, you'll likely enjoy this game. If you haven't played the recent Assassin's Creed games up to Valhalla or the Star Wars Jedi series, recommend you buy and play them first as they're still better in totality.
This game is fun enough and worth it at the current sale (about 50% off base price of $70). If another sale comes along at 50% or up worth a buy from this humble AC (and to a lesser extent Star Wars) fan while you wait for the next AC and/or Ubisoft to implode without a new creative formula.

Immersion, Sabacc and graphics are 10/10. Feels like a Star Wars game, and is the only reason I'm giving it a positive review. Gameplay is average, stealth makes no sense, story is below average, animations look terrible and the characters feel lifeless.

I finished the first DLC, and the Main Story last night. i had a lot of fun with this title. Originally I was skeptical of the sidekick, but it's actually a really fun mechanic and I enjoy the stealth in this game quite a bit. Runs well enough on Linux (5800x, 64gb ram, 3080ti). The story takes place at an interesting time in the original trilogy, so there's a few familiar faces other than Jabba around if you keep your eyes open.

Bought it after 7 months since release, expecting an at least playable game. Of course my expectation were to high for a Ubicrap game. Unplayable. Instant crash when DLSS is activated. I requested a refund immediately. DONT GET FOOLED LIKE ME.

Star Wars Outlaws, set in the criminal underbelly of the Star Wars universe, offers an ambitious open-world experience where players navigate a galaxy rife with danger and opportunity. The game captures the essence of being a rogue on the run, blending space travel, smuggling, and high-stakes heists. While the setting and premise are exciting, the narrative struggles to provide the depth needed to make its characters truly compelling. Despite its potential, the game falls short in delivering a truly transformative character arc for various characters, which affects the emotional impact of the story.
The story follows Kay Vess and Nix, a rag-tag duo trying to carve out their own path in a galaxy ruled by criminal syndicates. While the premise is engaging, the execution leaves something to be desired, particularly in Kay's development. Other story narratives typically show characters growing and changing due to their experiences, yet characters feels largely the same at the end of the game as they do when they are introduced. This lack of progression diminishes the stakes of the journey, making major story beats feel less impactful than they should be.
Gameplay in Star Wars Outlaws provides a mix of third-person combat, exploration, and spaceflight, offering a variety of activities for players to engage in. Gunplay is serviceable but lacks the weight and fluidity of the best shooters, making combat encounters feel somewhat standard. The open-world elements introduce an impressive amount of freedom, yet the missions often rely on familiar tropes and repetitive objectives. While the ability to interact with different syndicates and choose how to approach missions is a highlight, it doesn't always lead to meaningful changes in the story.
Visually, the game is a stunning recreation of the Star Wars universe, featuring beautifully detailed environments, immersive lighting, and well-designed character models. The various planets feel distinct and lived-in, creating an authentic and rich sci-fi world for players to explore. Animations and facial expressions are solid, but some cutscenes suffer from stiffness, occasionally breaking immersion. Despite minor inconsistencies, the overall presentation does justice to the grandeur and grit of the Star Wars galaxy.
Overall, Star Wars Outlaws delivers an exciting adventure with engaging gameplay and breathtaking visuals but falls short in its storytelling and character development. Kay's journey, while full of action and intrigue, lacks the emotional depth needed to make her arc truly memorable. The gameplay offers a variety of experiences, though some aspects feel underwhelming or repetitive over time. Despite its narrative shortcomings, the game's attention to detail and immersive world-building make it an enjoyable experience for Star Wars fans.
Star Wars Outlaws gets a 6/10.

I am personally enjoying the game and will continue to do so for some time to come but I recognise that I am one of the very small minority of players that will.
I would rate this game a 10/10 for atmosphere and a 2 or 3 on everything else. It is full of bloat; pointless minigames and platforming where the only stakes seem to be how much the player hates themselves. The characters are largely forgettable and as for the story; it is like the designers watched the Rick and Morty heist episode and decided to implement everything Rick made fun of.
If you love Star Wars but hate yourself a little bit and want to wander around in an atmospheric homage to the original series, this is the game you have been waiting for.
Everyone else; look anywhere else.

Wow. It's pretty buggy, I can see what people are complaining about. Whole areas not loading in, falling through the floor/ground, walking through walls, quests not triggering/updating, getting trapped in a loop and the menu not responding (requiring a hard reset). It used to be developers had to finish games before they started selling them. I mean, it does feel a bit like you are wandering around in the Star Wars universe, kudos, but good luck trying to actually do very much. Maybe do some play-testing and quality assurance first, devs, eh?

Star Wars Outlaws – A Galaxy Far, Far Away… Bogged Down by Bad Design
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I was excited to dive into Star Wars Outlaws, expecting a thrilling open-world adventure set in the criminal underbelly of the galaxy. The game nails the immersive Star Wars feel, with stunning environments, solid voice acting, and plenty of opportunities to explore the Outer Rim. Unfortunately, that's where the praise stops—because everything else is bogged down by frustrating design choices that turn what should have been an exciting journey into a tedious grind.
Wasted Potential in Mission & Game Design
The biggest issue with Outlaws is how repetitive and time-wasting the core gameplay loop becomes. Missions are uninspired and formulaic—you go to a location, track down a contact, get double-crossed (because, of course, you do), deal with a surprise twist, and then repeat. It’s predictable to the point of boredom, and rather than feeling like an outlaw making their own path, it feels like you’re just running through the same checklist over and over.
And then there’s the tedious mission markers—too many objectives force you to search for some tiny item in a massive search area, dragging out what should have been a quick, engaging task into a frustrating scavenger hunt. These mechanics feel like artificial padding rather than genuine gameplay.
Forced Minigames & Unskippable Scenes
Why on earth is Sabacc (the card game) a mandatory part of main story missions? A side activity? Sure, that would have been fine. But making it required for story progression feels completely unnecessary—especially for those who just want to focus on the action and adventure. Star Wars has a ton of side games in-universe, but forcing this one into the critical path is baffling.
Adding insult to injury, the game doesn’t let you skip a ton of slow-paced dialogue and cutscenes—but ironically, the scenes you would want to skip (like ship landings and takeoffs) don’t let you bypass them immediately. Instead, you’re stuck waiting on animations that get old fast, which disrupts the pacing. For an outlaw constantly on the move, this game sure loves to slow you down.
Lack of True Freedom – One-Sided War
Perhaps the biggest letdown is that, despite being a supposed outlaw, the game forces you to take a side in the Galactic Civil War. Where is the choice? Where is the opportunity to manipulate both sides, profit off the chaos, or even double-cross both factions for a true lone wolf ending? Instead, the game railroads you into a predetermined allegiance, robbing players of what should have been an exciting element of freedom in an open-world Star Wars game.
Traversal Frustrations – Exploration Has Limits
While the environments are beautiful, the level design frequently forces players into needlessly complicated routes just to reach their objectives. Sometimes the correct path is either unclear, poorly marked, or absurdly convoluted, leading to wasted time wandering around instead of enjoying the adventure. Even with environmental interactions enabled, the game loves to funnel you into slow, linear pathways that kill the sense of freedom that the open-world setup originally promised.
Final Verdict – A Missed Opportunity
At its best, Star Wars Outlaws captures the immersive world of Star Wars in a way that few games have. The graphics, world-building, and exploration are fantastic, but they’re overshadowed by a repetitive mission structure, frustrating design decisions, and a lack of true player choice. The game constantly slows you down with time-wasting mechanics, forces you into unnecessary minigames, and takes away the very agency an outlaw should have in the galaxy.
I expected more from this. Fans deserved more.
It is a 5.5/10 – Great setting, frustrating execution.
