INTRO
A forgotten hidden gem has re-emerged on Steam.
THE GOOD AND THE BAD
+ Nice variety of tracks and cars
+ Simple and effective progression
+ Both versions of the game included within the purchase
- No effort was done to make the game compatible with modern computers
- Races cannot be restarted, all you can do is load an older save after the race
Technical issues include:
* random frame drops
* broken reflections when driving through water puddles
* Steam Overlay opens, but you cannot use it as the mouse still controls the game instead
* the european version (Offroad) apparently asks for CD (did not test this myself as I prefer the Redneck version of the game anyway, might update this later)
OVERALL
The game itself is still enjoyable. Simple, but fun (though the nostalgia factor surely plays a big part there and not sure how would one percieve it without having played it over two decades ago). But it doesn't work properly. It's far from unplayable, but I can't see how anyone would enjoy it in its current state unless they played it when it was new and just want to experience it again for nostalgia reasons. Therefore, as multiple others have done here, I also have to vote against this game as it stands. Definitely do not buy at full price! I did the logical thing and waited for a discount, so instead of being mad, I'm just kinda disappointed.
RATING
4.5/10 | 7/10 for the game and 2/10 for the Steam implementation

It is fun, however all the apps in the folder appear to just be the same. There is an "OffRoad" folder in filed too, that takes you to more apps. However those say you need a disc. The launch settings on steam are weird. It gives you 2 of them. The 2nd option just keeps saying "Insert Disc." 1st option will let you play "Off Road Redneck Racing." If someone could help me out with this that would be great. DLC also doesnt seem to do anything? Unless I am just dumb on that part.

I remember buying this game in a now long gone game store many years ago. I still have the CD and loved playing it as it offered a more unique experience than other racing games of its time, along with a quite good soundtrack that was also fairly unique to it.
Each area feels unique, and both terrain, weather, and cars have various grip factors, making the courses feel a little different when you go up to another level, change teams, or gain upgrades. Each track also alters its layout for each division, making the races feel a bit refreshed for each division rank you go up.
Often each division starts with a choice of a slower car and faster car, with them differing on either handling or acceleration. Enough upgrades will make either of them viable for winning though, which are earned randomly after each race.
Progressing through the game may be different than expected due to some divisions needing you to re-run it after failing to place with top points and not ranking up, but this was intended and often you will have team invite that can net you a higher grade car, if you meet the criteria and don't promote to the next division. Even if you do not accept or meet the criteria for the team invite, you will still keep all of your upgrades, allowing you to start off the season with a much higher chance of winning races.

The steam release, or "Zoom" release, does have a few graphical oddities that people have pointed out when compaired to the CD release. Mainly the lighting on cars, the reflection zones for puddles, and the reflection layering are all visually broken/odd when you have game details set to medium or higher.
- This is not the case on the Steamdeck, running Proton.
These issues also are the only unique issues I could find in this release, and all are actually easily fixed by tossing dgVoodoo2 in the exe folder with its new ddraw.dll and the D3DImm.dll file. Along with this, you can also have widescreen resolution applied at launch.
Barring the above issue and solution, I can say that this game runs great for me on my desktop and Steamdeck.
I did play around with the EU version of the game, and without any issues launching it, but the lack of any in-race music turned me away. I found the pristine-clean "offroad" car textures to be intresting, but unfitting, and I felt the same for the typical PS2 racing game main menu music and background it used.

First off, I want to say that I absolutely love this game. Starting each division with an underpowered car, getting upgrades for your vehicle, and receiving offers to join other teams definitely creates a unique gameplay loop. The track route changing with each division keeps the gameplay fresh, and my favorite track, racing down a mountain, is chaotic and thrilling. I would recommend this game to everyone who enjoys retro racing games, but...
Offroad release on Steam has a lot of problems. There are texture glitches, puddle reflections breaking the rendering order, and weird performance issues. This is surprising to me because I still have the game on disk, and the retail version does not have any of these issues. Additionally, the Steam release should receive some quality-of-life patches, there's no reason not to give players the option to adjust the resolution and or aspect ratio. I know this would be an easy fix because there are many workarounds for this:
1. Setting up a shortcut with launch commands, running it in maximized window mode, and defining your preferred resolution. To remove the border, you can use something like Borderless Gaming.
2. Hex editing. By going into the setup.exe > hardware setup and changing the hex value to your desired resolution, and then hex editing Offroad.exe to fit your aspect ratio, you can achieve the desired effect by changing just three hex values.
I think this re-release deserves more attention. And until then I wont recommend this game. :(

While i am grateful that this game finally made it to Steam, I can only ALMOST recommend this.
Devs, the Setup.exe programs are in the respective install folders of each game. They both need to be added to the launch option choices when clicking play. This will allow us to choose an appropriate resolution and bump\env mapping options.
You could even just make the games launch from the respective launchers as default instead of straight to the offroad.exe for each game.
Either way, this really doesn't take that much effort and then this will be a recommended purchase from me.
Contact me if you need assistance with this.
