The in game art style is slick and futuristic - the art style of the story elements is basically cooperate Memphis. It's a product of it's time I suppose. Predicting the collapse of South Korea is kinda based though I guess.
You get the impression that the Earth collapsed as a result of Late Stage Capitalism - presumably the failure occurred due to finally ALL the resources on the Earth being consumed - and all of our heroes are fixing that buy getting resources from somewhere else. So, nobody learned anything, but they are all the *right* kind of poeple.
So, it's actually kind of feaseable that you could extract virtually endless energy from Io / Jupiter - but the vib is that that wont really change anything.
The game itself is OK - I've picked it up and put it down a half dozen times hoping that I might get into it, but I never do.

Offworld Trading Company proves that Soren Johnson still sees three moves ahead while most strategy games are stuck copying the last one.
No combat, no armies... just cutthroat economics, real-time manipulation, and the cold joy of buying your enemies out from under them. It’s lean, brutal, and elegant. Every resource you touch is part of a living market...one you can quietly exploit or blow wide open. Prices swing, black market deals backfire, and sabotage becomes your second language.
The humor is dry, the pace is crisp, and the graphics hit that perfect balance...clear, stylized, and easy to parse mid-chaos. It makes you feel like a CEO in a Martian corporate war room, not just play one.
This is the RTS I didn’t know I needed until it rewired how I think about winning.

I love this game, I truly do. I have put in more hours than any reasonable person would into a small game like this because it is perfectly replayable-in multiplayer.
But the multiplayer servers for this game recently went down and there is no way to play online anymore.
EDIT: The dev replied quickly to my review with an update- They are working on fixing the multiplayer, but do not have a clear timeline.
Quoted below
"Hi - I know this is not a satisfying answer, but the third-party service we use for MP went down, and we are working to move to a new service. Stay tuned.
Here are the details:
Offworld multiplayer relies on the Unity UNET service, which was discontinued a few weeks ago so multiplayer is currently indeed unavailable. We're working on migrating the game to a currently supported multiplayer service, but unfortunately we can't provide a timeline yet as there's a fairly significant amount of work to be done. Restoring multiplayer in Offworld is a current priority for us, so the game very much remains supported."
