This is a side story, in the same way that Sky the 3rd is a side story. Not obviously connected to the overarching plot, but lots of character moments and worldbuilding that will almost certainly be relevant later. As for the story itself, it's hardly perfect, but it's mostly consistent and felt necessary (if not fun to work through at times). Overall, I enjoyed the experience.

People often say this is the worst trails game and even though it has its flaws its by no means bad. The story doesn't progress much but it is still a trails game and as such a great game.

Great game! And another great entry into the Trails series. 12 games in Nevermind talk about how the fandom considers this the 'weakest' game in the Trails series to date. I can concede that the other games average around an 'A avg'. This game ranks at about an 'A minus'. This is a very fine score. For long-time fans of the series who've played the games since the Trails the Third days, back in 2016, this game references, analyzes, and explores events that had happened to characters from close to 10 games ago. And for those fans who catch these references, it is phenomenal. This game also features some of the best character moments in the entire series. Thus, the 'main' storyline may be weaker relative to other Trails entries, but the character moments remain peak Trails writing. These writers are on Pleroma grass or something....

I enjoyed Daybreak 2 more than 1. I would rank it quite highly in the series so far. The combat is much more refined than Daybreak 1 and I am glad you can steal turn bonuses again with Scrafts. There were a lot of really fun battles in this game. Lots of extra content. The story and characters are also more in depth and engaging with lots of twists, turns and surprises you can expect from a Trails game. Looking forward to Beyond The Horizon

Don't listen to the haters, if you got through the previous 11 entries, you will probably like this one as well. Sure, it doesn't move the overarching story that much, but this game has some of the best character moments in it, and the finale is amazing.

A good continuation of the first part. Engaging story and solid gameplay. Game runs smooth as well.

If you play Legend of Heroes for the gameplay this one is good. I you play for the writing, this is the most vapid piece of slop I've ever read coming from Falcom. Borderline skippable, just look for some important character updates elsewhere, maybe look bonding events in Youtube or something.

Even with all it's flaws I still love you stupid game. First half is really well paced for the series with awful pacing and that's actually good thing but in act 3 we are back to good old formulatic storytelling that reminds me of cold steel 3. Act 3 is easily the worst part of the game but the rest of the game has so much love that it really doesn't matter. The repeatable "side" dungeons are too tidious if you want to do 100% but i can still bear with it because combat is still fun, tho i would like more balance in magic system because at some point there is one spell that is just the best spell and there is no reason by the end to use any other spell with mana regeneration build. Minigames are back and there are acually fun and well made for little pace change. Sidequests and bond events are still highlights of the game so at least writing in those segments is good, but main story is kinda whatever and looks like a build up to the next game so that's why probably alot of people took as "filler", which i don't agree. Overall i liked my time with this game, this series is special to me i'm like what 11 games in with a spinoff, I'm just too much deep to back down, but if next game don't start answering really important questions that are in the series since 2nd game I will be dissapointed.
