Fantastic game. Brotato in space with additional gimmics and lots of build options.

If you like Brotato and/or games like it, you'll likely not be disappointed with Space Will; it's over-all a very solid game that builds-off of the same Brotato formula (small short waves, tag-based upgrades and weapons; escalating difficulties, tons of unlocks, bosses at certain waves) and adds a few new mechanics (you build your ship using a little grid where you snap your weapons on, managing load-size which influences the movespeed of your ship; you customize available upgrades for your ship outside of matches instead of using 'banishes') which all feel well integrated instead of cumbersome -- I'd contrast this to Bio-Prototype where 75% of the gameplay feels based around programming/re-programming your little organ set-ups vs just grinding through waves, Space Will has about the same pace as Brotato runs. There are some Quirks (the translation is fairly inconsistent in places, example: 'Ranged' stat is often referred to as 'Remote' in-game, 'Business' stat is often referred to as 'Operation'; it is prone to crashing depending on your build but the game has a great auto-save so you're only at risk of restarting a single wave; sometimes intense slow-down based on your build, usually if there are too many tracking projectiles on screen), but none so bad that it ruins the experience. The most egregious quirk is may-be balance related, as for certain achievements you need to hit level 10 for individual tags (ie: Burning damage, Frost damage, Poison damage, etc) and certain ones of these can take /hours/ of play to get; it took me ~200 waves to get a level 10 poison build, for example. Over-all really happy with my purchase, 100%'d it, enjoyed it.

Brotato in Space, without an English language localization team. Insanely fun with lots of variety!

Not your regular "Vampire Survivors", controls are weird, feels like learning to move and aim is the main mechanic... well is not for me, love this genre, but on this game I don't want to spend hours trying learn how to pilot/aim with this "spaceship"

Phenomenal Survivors-Like Roguelite. Lots of unlocks. Core Gameplay is solid, with lots of variations on builds. The RNG of upgrades and Store items is solid, so that you can find unique things to up your build without being cornered by what it gives you. Enemy variance seems to be different enough as you progress, to keep things interesting. The price is a steal.

It's pretty clear that this game is "inspired by" Brotato, as it duplicates its play style and some significant parts of the user interface. But it would be very wrong to write this off as a simple rip-off. In my opinion, Space Will is significantly better than Brotato. First of all, there's much more customizability. There's a much wider choice of weapons, and also a new dimension to how they're added: rather than just having a number of generic weapon slots, you actually build your ship on a grid, meaning you can choose the relative position and direction of all your weapons. Want your space sword on an extended stalk that's covered in defensive lasers? You can have it. In addition, rather than a hard limit on weapon slots, Space Will allows you to build a bigger and bigger ship at the cost of increasing loss of maneuverability, and some of the cores (characters) have many more slots than others. It can be a lot of fun to build and fly a massive ship with 40+ elements. There's also an affinity system, where equipping a lot of weapons or units with a common theme (eg, fire or laser) will provide power-ups on an additional track. And a very nice QoL improvement is that Space Will allows you to buy weapons you can't fit immediately and put them in a "warehouse" until you want them, which avoids the problem where certain patterns of upgrades in Brotato can leave you unable to buy low-level items. The gameplay of Space Will is a bit slower than Brotato, mainly because the enemies that rush you move a bit more slowly, but a greater variety of enemies appears earlier, with enemies using fireball barrages and sweeping beams that limit your movement even from the lowest levels. If you build your ship off-centre it can be a bit confusing to remember that you always move it and rotate it from the core, but this makes sense in light of the build choices. Where the additional variety does bite a bit is in the randomisation of items. The shop works identically to Brotato, but because of the increased variety it's easy to end up feeling screwed by the RNG if the item type you need doesn't appear after multiple rerolls. This is especially bad when doing the missions that require you to reach a minimum affinity level with one of the weapon themes, because on one game you might get three or four of those weapons in your first shop, and then next game you might spend most of your resources rerolling and never get one. Wisely, the Laboratory feature allows you to disable unlocked weapons and chips in order to reduce the pool and increase the odds of getting items you want, but it isn't always enough. In particular, some of the later unlocked chips have major effects that can change how you play the whole game, but you often won't get to enjoy them because you're dependent on them coming up in the shop, and they are deliberately rare - so you can't build around getting them, because you probably won't, and if you haven't built around them, they're often terrible. There are a few other changes as well, such as there being more basic statistics (for example, the zoom level of the screen is a character parameter in Space Will) but the additional customizability makes the game and for me it's just plain better than Brotato.

Space Will is basically brotato in space. A lot of stuff to unlock, many possible builds and even some interesting features like the laboratory where you can check stuff. Pros: - a lot of content (and I mean a lot) - gameplay is responsive and feels good - many possible builds - units(ship body parts) system truly adds another layer of strategy to it - at least from the lab description it seems the developer will continue development which is always nice Cons: - bad balance, some cores(ships) are very weak or not interesting - some chips(upgrades) feel meaningless - graphics looks samey, is hard distinguishing weapons, units and cores - translation and descriptions, I have a hard time understanding how some things interact or what exactly some descriptions mean If you like this type of games in my opinion this one is a must buy. It still needs some re-balance but for the price is asking this game provides a lot of value.

I played the demo of this substantially. I bought it for that reason. I don't feel this is the most balanced game, just as Brotato isn't. There are very obviously clear winners and losers for Core selections. There are at least enough winners to give some variety and decision in setup. Granted, I'm only at 75% unlocked, so maybe there will be more later. If you like Brotato, you'll really like this game. I think it improves on the formula and offers a lot of new features to the experience. I really like how you connect the weapons to your ship. This is especially interesting in melee builds that you can spear out. The game does have memory leaks, but if you get one, just save and exit to menu, then continue your run and they'll be gone. For $5, it's very unlikely you won't find enjoyment. This is an easy purchase for me.
