OMG, This sh!t really dug its hooks into me. By far one of the most addictive game I’ve played in recent years. Granted, I haven’t been able to game as much in recent years. But it is nice that a simple title like this one can still make me appreciate a game with a solid concept at its core.
Obviously it’s far from perfect. While I enjoyed the art style for the different locations, they are a bit static and lifeless. Then again,, too much extraneous movement onscreen could be misleading in a game like this. I wish there was a happier medium. Sound design was solid - nothing overwhelming but it does its job well enough.
Now for the biggest gripe. Some levels require more patience than most gamers will permit, especially some of the later levels where zombies are less abundant or more spread out from each other. This makes starting chains a pain. And,, due to your limited number of bullets, you may have to sit there and wait while the zombies aimlessly amble around the screen and get close enough to each other so you can finally take them out. These instances get old and can definitely lead to rage quitting.
There’s also the grinding for upgrades, which are necessary to unlock the later levels. But this was actually handled pretty well - it’s not hard grinding and I was enjoying unlocking them for the most part. My one issue was how the levels are opened - it’s very strange and outright confusing at first. You figure it out eventually but it is initially kinda bizarre.
For the most part though, these devs got it right with this one. When you get that right shot and watch the bloody chain of events unfurl… it’s a f@cking awesome sight to behold. Would love to see a sequel that expands on all the cool things this title has to offer. In the meantime though, this goes on sale frequently…
