Frame rate and bugs make it really unenjoyable.

I'm disgusted by the woke trigger warning
I played this as a child mixed immigrant, this is a heartwarming game for any family - the original was
Which cannot be said for any game released by Ubisoft in the woke era
Now they keep insulting their customers and ruining their own heritage
If I could have refunded I would
I'm shocked with the warning but then again when I saw promo materials for part 2 I was even more shocked. Read up about creators and character vision for 1.
Shane ubi shame.

Can't believe I forgot to write a review for a game that was the first video game that I actually owned. This was the best gift when the game came out. And this is also the best gift to myself now. I didn't have any trouble running the game. It looks more beautiful than ever. Such an enjoyable nostalgic classic. The story is amazing. It has its tearjerker moments and its comic relief to match. The characters are all amazing! One of my most favorite things to do in game is to take a break from all the action and just take pictures of all the different species. Honestly, if you were thinking about it, just do it. <3 This game holds a special place in my heart forever.

not a fan of the ubisoft bloatware, the lack of steam cloud support, and the lack of an adjustable aspect ratio (2:3 ftw!), but the game has been truly phenomenal so far (about 3 hours in) w/ it's excellent commentary on fascism being a highlight. the remastered graphics are also great unlike remastered nintendo titles

Awesome Game, just the way it was 20 years ago.
+
•Game runs smoothly, despite having a medicore 2020 PC so I cant get behind the negative reviews.
•Speedrun-Mode for the Maniacs
-
•Achievements wont unlock in Steam, although they unlock in the Ubisoft Launcher. Devs have acknowledged the Problem but wont do anything about it, other that talking about fixing it. You cant even unlock them yourself using tools since Ubisoft decided it was smart to secure the Achievements.

A poorly optimized, stutter-filled remaster with inconsistent visuals and broken performance.
it's shocking how badly Ubisoft handled a 20-year-old game.

For a game that isn't broken, this 20th Anniversary Edition is among the more disappointing re-releases I've had my hands on.
The decision to add a layer of realism doesn't mesh with the cartoon-like aesthetic of the (original) game. The hyper detailed textures and tesselated surfaces give off a cheap "Ocarina of Time UE4 remake" look in many instances, and, instead of modernizing the game, oftentimes it reminds me of the Xbox 360 launch title Kameo -- not a compliment, to be clear.
Unfortunately the original PC version is riddled with bugs and it’s been pulled from digital stores, which makes this 20th Anniversary release the only feasible way to play BG&E on contemporary hardware. On its own, this is a good action-adventure game with a well-developed setting and strong direction. A rarity anno 2024 and later. So if you can look past or don’t see the visual anachronicity, there is plenty to like.
It's hard to recommend because aside from the uneven visuals, there are still the odd bugs in the game, huge Ubisoft Connect notifications constantly taking you out of the experience, Steam achievements being broken and the game feeling like a stuttery mess unless you fix frame pacing with external tools.
I think new players will enjoy this more than those who remember playing the original. But know what you're getting into.

ubisoft in a nutshell = "if it's not broken, break it."
This is NOT a review of the game/original itself that we all love and adore.
This is only for this re-release. A year later and nothing has been fixed.
- FPS and stuttering issues that require ini file fixes (simple stuff sure, but ffs, all you had to do is add good controller support and HD textures);
- audio only works in stereo now, 2 speaker sound only;
- steam achievements, a year later, still dont work and unlock - no matter how many reports were made and 'tickets opened'
You could have simply remastered it, added some nice textures and gimmicks, fixed controller issues - and we would have gobbled it up with positive reviews. It wasn't exactly stellar on PC, but no, they had to break that which was not broken - and not really sure what this adds at this point.

Never refunded a game so fast, buy the original version and use high-res mods.
- Ubisoft connect + constant stuttering on RTX 3060 16GB RAM.
- The mix between the new bump-mapped materials and old hand-painted textures looks absolutely terrible.
-Lighting has gone to sh*t, contrasts are all over the place, good-bye painterly look.
If you're a fan, browse through the bonus gallery and refund the game. No other reason to get this over the OG.
