Loved this game! Movement feels amazing, characters are delightful, levels are jam packed with so much detail you'll just want to stop and look around!
BUT!!
There is no closed captioning and no subtitles. The game does have voice acting with speech bubbles but it doesn't cover everything. The intro has no speech bubbles or captions, Hat Kid will count or say a few words, sometimes a character will talk off screen and there's no captioning. It feels like such an oversight for a modern game especially one already has accessibility options.

A great 3D collectathon with fun gameplay and great comedy, its dlc gives you more content and if youre not satisfied by all that, you can also feast on its item shop! despite being small all the items on there are fairly high quality (even though the backgrounds are reused from the game..) what stands out is the item frames, which i used on my account for a fairly long time, id recommend a hat in time for any point shopper out there!

9/10.
i like the art, humor is silly, movement is amazing. most of the actual missions are kind of lame, game is a little too easy for the most part, a little repetitive. costumes are fun, side quests are fun, speedrun is fun, characters are fun.

I played this game mostly flawlessly back when it originally came out, followed by the DLCs. Loved it.
I cannot say the same for attempting to replay it. I genuinely have no idea what the hell happened to the technical side of the house since I played it all the way back in 2017/2018, but the only word to describe it is "compromised". I'm three time pieces into the new playthrough, and in that time the game has either failed to launch, launched but over the course of five business days, dropped controller settings after launching, played flawlessly for all of 15 minutes before repeatedly freezing for 2 - 3 minutes at a time, or just outright crashed to desktop with no error message.
This isn't a specs issue by any means, either. I'm running an i9-13900k paired with a 4080. Plenty of RAM to spare, too. There were definitely some hiccups on it back in 2017, on my old 1070 and i7, but it never just outright fought me like it has this time around on much stronger hardware.
Because of how egregious these technical issues have become over the years, and the lack of interest in fixing them, I can't recommend this game no matter how much I enjoyed it back in the day. If you still want to play it, go play one of the console versions. You lose out on mods, but it's a moot point since the PC version simply won't run long and stable enough to enjoy the mods.

Came back to it 7 years later. This game has tons and tons of amazing workshop content that’s still being pumped out today. If you purchase this game, after completing the main story I highly recommend diving into the workshop

I didn't know if this game was gonna be good. But the I beat the shit out of some mafia grown-ups, became an actor for some penguins, and beat the shit out of a shadow.

Reminds me of Mario Galaxy, really enjoyable but pretty short (not counting DLC). I’d recommend it to anyone who loves platformers.

I rarely play platformers as for the most part they just don't appeal to me, but I decided to give this one a chance and I'm glad that I did! A Hat in Time is a super enjoyable platformer that is incredibly charming and light-hearted (aside from a particular level). The creativity and style of some of the levels really keeps the experience fresh and leads to multiple memorable moments within it's relatively short playtime. The music is enjoyable. The characters are cute. It's overall an adorable little game with enough diversity to make you want to complete every piece of it. The platforming and use of the different hats is also very well done! I found myself excited to see what they would throw at me next. I had minor frustrations with some sections though, but they never overstood their welcome to the point where it tarnished my overall experience. It's also Co-op! Even though I didn't get to try it out, I am sure it would make a great game to play with a friend. (Going for all the achievements made me nearly lose my sanity though because of a few very specific things I needed to do. Though it could be lack of skill on my part.)
