This entire series is still, years later, my favorite game series of all time right next to Silent Hill and VTMB. Out of the entire series--even though the last one, Burnhouse Lane, is a stand alone--out of all of them, Downfall to Lorelai and Burnhouse, The Cat Lady remains my favorite one.

When I saw the cover art I remembered that I watched part of a playthrough of this many years ago on youtube, and that it scared me. Playing it now it isn't scary or upsetting so much as just sad. Everything in the world goes wrong for Susan (almost to a comical extent) because "life isn't fair". The most realistic part of this game is that she suffers her whole life at the hands of other people just to get bullied for not having friends or being distrusting.
The voice acting is great overall, especially for Susan. And the art style is beautiful. I love the 2D semi-realistic cutout collage style animation and setting design. Aesthetically it's incredible and I wish more games were this creative in their visual identity. The character designs, backdrops, and layering of objects to give you an artificial depth-of-field are really, really cool and inventive. There's no real jumpscares but it builds off a sense of dread, which I think is better. It has a very heavy Silent Hill influence and lots of references to it (there's literally a place called Quiet Haven in-game), which I enjoyed.
I don't know if I'm just an idiot who kept doing things out of order, but I needed a guide for a LOT of the puzzles. They're creative and interesting but not very "common sense" for me I guess? There are many puzzles here with solutions I never would've tried or expected to work. Maybe that adds to the immersion? idk
The biggest jumpscare here is the soundtrack. Not that it's bad but definitely not what you'd expect.

This game crashed right at the 2 hour mark, and I cannot get my refund nor my time back. No autosave feature was very devastating.

This game is a masterpiece . It’s real psychological horror here !! It’s scary how you feel immersed like you actually feel the emptiness of this game yet it’s so full of emotions and shows the disturbing side of the world. It’s haunting but it also makes you feel like you’re not alone. The story is amazing and will really touch you. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone weak tho...
I love Harvester Games and this whole trilogy. <333

10/10 been wanting to play this for a while, and its been worth every penny. absolute trip, and the dark themes of this game are oddly beautiful. would highly recommend if you like pixel horror, side-scroller's, extremely messed up topics, or games with easy, simple mechanics. enjoy! :D
The game that helped me survive.
I've been thinking about what to write here for many years. So, where do I even start?
This game, along with its counterparts in "The Devil Came Through Here" series, was something I had been drawn into from the second I laid my eyes on them. But one game stuck out the most among the others, The Cat Lady. I remember being in high school, depressed out of my mind, unsure of the future, and just wanting to disappear. I saw myself in Susan Ashworth, which I'm sure many other people have and will.
I watched it first from Cryaotic, (which admittedly did NOT age well..). I watched that series so many times I memorized the lines, the starting suicide note, the poem Susan recites throughout the game. Its all planted in my head now.
I share this game and the series with anyone I deem trustworthy enough to let into my world, because this game is a huge part of my world. What the characters go through, the choices you have to make, the backstories, the enemies.. everything is well thought out and fits so perfectly within the story even among the chaos of it all. (Not to mention it all gets mentioned and looped back to even all the way to their newest game, Burnhouse Lane. This game and all the others are within a full, cohesive world.)
I still remember the sheer excitement I felt when I recognized the voice of the Pest Control guy as being David Firth for the first time. One of my favorite artists out there. Which helped plant this game even more into my heart. This game fits me in a way no other games could accomplish so far.
You start to feel an almost sweet sense of melancholy as soon as the game starts, which I know is not everyone's cup of tea, but if it is yours, please do give this game a try. The soundtrack fits the very specific aesthetic of The Devil Came Through Here franchise and the other Harvester Games titles perfectly. It can be loud, quiet, bittersweet. A full on journey all by itself.
I could sit here and write about every single chapter separately, I could talk about all the parasites and The Queen of Maggots and the whole world surrounding the games but it would all be for naught if you don't watch or experience it yourself. The Cat Lady is truly a whole different experience. So if grim, depressing stuff that gives away to slowly build hope within you is what you're looking for, please play this game. Turn down the lights, get yourself a black coffee, and just experience it. You won't regret taking the time to give it a chance when it's over.

This game proves that breathtaking visuals and modern polish mean nothing if a game lacks heart. What truly matters is soul, originality, unforgettable storytelling, and a world that stays with you long after you’ve put the controller down. A timeless reminder of what makes video games art.

This is one of my favorite games. It's striking, spooky, puzzly, and interesting. I recently replayed it for the second or third time, and loved it again. It's a bit gruesome, so I wouldn't recommend it to kids. But for people who like horror, I absolutely would.
