Just a really fun game 10/10. It's a roguelike with a much smaller scope, but the simplicity is part of what makes it nice as there aren't hundreds of redundant mods. Every mod has it's use. Skills also feel very well balanced against each other, each one having ways to scale.

Very cute, kinda difficult. I'm not great at this type of game, yet am enjoying myself immensely. Many hours will be sunk into this in the near future.

I quite like this game and am very excited to see where the devs can take this concept. For fans of roguelikes, its like a cute version of hades and there are a lot of fun synergy options once you unlock them and the progression is easy to follow!

A short and sweet roguelike with a short, cute but surprisingly compelling story. Sadly there is not much replayability at the time of reviewing. The main story is completed at the time of reviewing which is more than can be said for many early access games. In terms of gameplay the game's challenge comes from understanding numbers more than mechanical complexity. Numbers start small but everything's multiplicative so with correct synergies you'd be turning 30 base damage skills into dealing 3000 damage instead. Part of the fun of the game is discovering the correct synergies, and the game teaches you a few of those seemingly brokenly strong synergies through the challenges as well. Unfortunately this system makes failed builds feel horrible to play, but each run is short enough that it doesn't feel too frustrating. The lack of replayability stems from the current lack of different bosses and build diversity. After going through the very cute main story the world feels sadly hollow, as the lovable characters are reduced to bosses with no dialogue. Kinda like how the old Pokaymahn games felt empty in the post game. Overall a good game, recommended for good gameplay, artstyle and characters. Hopefully with more content in the full release the replayability issue will be resolved.

(Warning) There is no support for mouse+keyboard play on this game. This game will give you a prompt when you install it that it recommends controller to play. Every game I have ever played so far with this prompt, you can still play it just the same if you adjust the keybinds in the options. I was doing the same for this game, until I noticed that the game will not even let you bind anything to your mouse. You dont even have the option. I dont see why the game doesnt allow you such a basic feature that will make this game more accessible to a lot more people. Truly a shame because the game seemed really fun.

Great game, it's fun and replayable but it's a bit hard tho. The spell variety is lacking a lot but the synergies are great although they are quite hard to get. Final rating 8/10 would bump it up to 10/10 if there's more spell variety

Good game but not with a few flaws. The variety of "items" that you can pick up is very limited. Pair that with an ungodly amount of rerolls the game hands to you, makes the roguelike experience not present. Every run can be forced with the same build over and over again easily. Aside from that, I would say the builds in this game roughly separates into "melee" and "mage" builds. The mage build is way stronger than the melee build and its not even close. The strongest spell, "fireball", just breaks any balance or challenge a boss has, and going a melee build is just a joke as there is no lifesteal/spellvamp to keep you alive when you are so close to the boss taking random shots here and there. The chip damage taken while playing melee adds up quickly, and overall is just unpleasant to play without lifesteal keeping you alive. Enough about the build, the weapon choices provided (you can choose one weapon before starting each run) is just.... boring. Yes, i get that different weapon promotes different playstyle, but what's the point of playing the giant scissor when you just die when trying to melee the boss? In the end you will be using the same mage build no matter what weapon you are choosing. One thing i find especially annoying when playing the game is, namely during the room of the final boss (the black one) and the "dodge for more rewards" stage, the color contrast is so bad. In the former room i can hardly see anything due to it being all black, and the red indicators does not make itself obvious in this case. In the latter room, the red indicators are ESPECIALLY blending into the background. Is this a design choice? Making the red indicator so pale it almost blends with the background? If you are gonna do that, at least release a colorblind mode or something so that people can actually see what's going on in the game. I'm gonna stop here but, these are definitely not the only problems that I find during my playthrough. They are just the ones that I find especially annoying and a must fix if this game is to be taken seriously and put against other roguelikes. Ps. About the fire spider boss, I don't think its fun that if you fail to destroy one cocoon, that area just keeps burning forever (at least for my case it lasts until i beat the boss). This further makes melee builds unplayable and makes mage builds a must for later difficulties.

Garden of Witches is a conventional action roguelike where you play as Sil the witch, travelling across an expansive garden fighting enemies and bosses, all while claiming spells and augmenting them in unique ways to either get really strong or suffer. It currently features some story chapters to experience as you get a feel for the game, gradually increasing the difficulty until you are faced with the late game runs that will take most of your time if you have an interest in theory crafting and playing with difficulty modifiers. The game feels fresh due to its artstyle, music, various weapons to go into a run with, and its complex high-risk-high-reward build system. Once you get into the late game for normal runs, even without story the game is fun to play through as long as you are willing to understand how builds excel and how easily they can fall flat. As of this review it is in early access. Pros: - As a roguelike, has a decent amount of replayability and effects that allow things to not be similar previous runs, unless you force it which is a lot more doable in the late-game to make max difficulty more feasible - The game offers a nice challenge especially when learning it - Story elements that are fun and quirky - Cute character and enemy art design - Great sound and great music to go along with it - Offers a system similar, but simpler, to the Hades heat system for difficulty, if interested - Complex and interesting build paths that play around choices regarding stage path, weapon, spells, ability augments, and passive stats - In its early access state, the feedback provided to the team is heard and they are responsive (Discord) Early Access Improvements (Cons): - Adding controller input customization - More clarity on how to optimize a build so that later chapters and end game are more doable for newer/casual players - Enemy/Boss variants, more difficulty modifiers, and late game content for replayability
