This was unexpected. What a great surprise. Usually you do not expect high level of quality from such an old hidden object game. Compared to other modern HoG slop from a conveyor belt - fascinating level of quality. First of all - visuals. Well, you can see everything yourself. The game indeed looks beautiful.
Now the main part - puzzles and mini games. And the game has a lot of them. Really a lot. Especially puzzles. The game is very puzzle oriented. Variety of these puzzles is also rich. You definitely do not come across most of the local puzzles in other HoG games. And they are not that easy. Some of them may break you.
While story is not a revelation, it was still interesting to follow local events. Here you have memorable and fully voiced characters and nice background music that contributed to local atmosphere. There is also a bonus chapter that is directly connected with the events of the main game.
Unfortunately there is also one big issue that I didn't like - absolutely idiotic approach towards achievements. So if you are a complitionist - beware. You like to play slowly and thoughtfully? Paying attention to the story, without a hurry, mindless clicking on the screen and skipping of puzzles? - bad for you. The game will punish you for this and chances are, you will miss important achievements.
But hey, you may say, this is what the second walkthrough is for! Especially if you liked the game, you can run it the second time and collect the rest of the achievs, right?! - No! Missed on the first run - missed for good. To be more precise, certain achiev wants you to speedrun the game on your first (and only the first) run.
Creating another profile just for this achiev won't help, because you still have to unlock everyhing in one profile to get all the achievs. Thus, if this stuff is important for you - you'd better check local forum and guide section, just to make sure that you won't screw up somewhere. You won't catch a spoiler anyway and it will save you from deep frustration.
As to the technical condition, in my personal case, I had no issues at all. Many people had issues launching the game, but I made absolutely no additional steps to make it run. But again, this is just my case - I do not make any claims, so you may consider this part of my experience with some skepticism.

It's cheap, it's a few hours of entertainment, and it's fun. Sure, it's definitely "dated" but it's dated in a way that's kind of endearing. The majority of the game is point and click with relatively simple puzzles. If you're struggling with the puzzles, just wait enough time and you can skip them. By and large a very enjoyable experience.
