No QOL,no skip,no save everywhere... And horrible English voice for narrative if you play in English with no option to mute or switch to Japanese voice (if Jap voice exist). Nope! Refunded!

Nice little game. I personally enjoy it, but I see that it is not for everyone. There isn't much story, you just select one of the 7 protagonists, each having different reason to explore an island and the only difference that I see for now is their reactions to events happening. They may have different affinities, but it's not really noticable. There are different interesting mechanics that you need to learn by yourself with minimal explanations from in-game help system. Like how magic works, how to learn new spells and arts, etc. Hint: you can't learn Contract spell, you always have to have Singing Shards equipped. I spent a lot of time trying to learn it based on in-game info that you can learn all spells and it looked like a spell before giving up and finding online that you can't (well, I expected this to be true after trying for so long but needed a confirmation). You customize your characters with equipment, spells, can switch formations before each turn which affects character roles and some stats. You take care of elementals to create a state which is positive for your team. You can breeze through easy battles but more difficult ones are like a small puzzle where you need to be sustainable for some time because you can't use items to recover in battle and magic system where you need to steal elemental token before you can cast your spell may leave you vulnerable at important moments. These puzzles remind me of SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions game where the battles are also kind of like a puzzle. The enjoyable part about this game is exploration of different areas to find all secrets and solving the puzzles of difficult fights.

I want to say yes, but I have to not recommend this one. I really love the Alliance Alive, this art style, the saga combat. Legend of Legacy was a very pretty game when it released, and while I think the remake does justice to the visuals, that's about the end of the changes from the original. LoL has a very thin story, still has systems that are not entirely transparent with how they function, and characters that are interchangeable with little consequence. With remakes like Star Ocean 2 and Persona 3, this feels more like a tweaked port than a remaster. I'm being harsh but that's not to say it's all bad. If you do want a challenging rpg, and you enjoy the saga style of progression, then this is certainly a choice. The areas have a lot of variation, the exploration can be fun with finding all the little secrets. Games rarely punish you nowadays for losing, but that's not the case here. The game has a risk and reward balance for fights- Your hp is healed to full every fight, but dying will reduce your max hp until you can rest. You can run from nearly any fight, but running will take you to the start of the dungeon. If you're deep into an area, you may have to choose between pushing forward while hurt or stopping to back. You may also come into a boss battle where you cannot run. You'll be fighting for your progress in those cases, and smart strategies will have to carry you. It can be a difficult but rewarding game. Still, I would recommend passing on this. Fifty bucks is a high price for a 3ds port. Alliance Alive was a much more enjoyable game with an actual story also made by Furyu, and if you haven't played that, give that a try instead. The Saga series is also having a small comeback, with new entries and fan games like Secret of Varonis. There are just better choices out there, and it's disappointing that a game with so much potential didn't receive a little bit more love into it's remaster.

Legend of Legacy is a 'SaGa like' JRPG. Instead of EXP and level ups, you get stats and learn skills as you take actions in battle. Unlike most JRPGS, this one is very light on the story. It is much more exploration focused. If you enjoy the strategy, grinding, and gradual progress side of JRPGs, then you might find some enjoyment in this one. However proceed with caution. $49.99 is pretty high considering the quality, and this game is definitely not for everyone. PROS: - Even though this game treats the story as an absolute afterthought, it still has a few surprise memorable moments sprinkled in there - Formations/Stances are interesting. The way you can create and use your own sets of stance formations, including additional unlockable stances, adds a nice layer of strategy to battles. - The way they handle guarding/tanking in battle is one of the more interesting takes I've seen in a turn based JRPG - Elemental contracts add a nice strategic element to battle, once you unlock them. - I like the 'hire a ship' system. You pay money to send explorers out to sea, they come back after a certain amount of real life time passes (whether you are playing or not). They bring you goodies. The most expensive ship is 5000 to hire, but can bring you back some of the strongest equipment in the game. As a bonus, this version of the game allows you to save skim, so you can re-roll what they brought you. - As you explore, you fill out a map. You can sell the maps you make to the towns merchant. Selling him fully completed maps can net you some great money. Its a nice incentive to explore, and helps you figure out where to go next. CONS: - The remaster didn't add much to the game. Neither new features nor quality of life improvements. - Some of the background graphics didn't translate as well from 3DS to the bigger screen when they are zoomed in. - The music is unique. Its not terrible, but it neither invokes emotion nor does it get the blood pumping. It is mostly a lot of ambiance tracks. This includes the battle themes. - Story almost non-existent, which is bizarre for a JRPG. - Learning and using magic is a pain in this game. Its much more comfortable to stick to physical builds, at least for me. - Battles are slow and become quite tedious further in. Everything starts to have so much HP - Even though you can recruit all 7 characters, there's no reason to use more than 3 of them ever. Building up their skills and stats takes so long - You lose ALL progress since your last save upon death. - This game should not have been $49.99. The quality just does not match the price point.
