Super fun indie game. Is it perfect, no but neither are a lot of triple AAA games. For about what you'd spend at a fast food place you can have a blast. Personally I'd like to see a squeal. For the Dev's keep making cool stuff!

Writing is rough but the gameplay is solid. Game is a gem imo. Fun little arcade mech game that scratches that itch.

A very enjoyable mech game that is a nice blend of Armored Core and, unexpectedly, Gundam Battle series from the PSP of old days. I was wondering why the game felt so cozy and nostalgic, and the Gundam Battle-like feel is definitely part of it. Gearbits certainly knows what it's offering: mech! The story, while simplistic, gives us straightforward excuse to splatter some bugs and gun down enemy pilots. The unit choices are pretty distinct, but not too stark that it makes them feel like different technology. Customizing weapon loadout is always fun in any mech game, and Gearbits certainly gives us a meaningful arsenal to play around with. The control feels pretty funky at first (I played on controller), but once you start getting better at it, it really feels like being a badass pilot. The music is no Beethoven, but generally set the right mood and tone for the missions we're in. And all of this made by just one person! If you like anything mech, this is a damn steal.

"Gearbits" is an indie Armored Core clone with a bit of Earth Defense Force mixed in- the game's production values are a bit iffy at times, but I appreciate the attempt at FMV-type cutscenes and overall replayability. The game's somewhat short at just 20 missions, and I disliked that one of the achievements is granted for completing the game with the default mech because it meant I never got to try the other mechs in the main walkthrough. You don't upgrade or alter the mechs, but you do change their weapons. The biggest difference between this and other mech games is the fact that you're fighting bugs- tons of them. It's cool that the game can display hundreds of the orange insects onscreen without any slowdown. You also fight other mechs. Your friendly ally mechs cannot die so any missions involving them are almost impossible to lose. The best thing about this game is probably the variety in the game play and weapons. Almost every level gives you new weapons to purchase and try- from a slow moving orb that crashes into things to your more traditional weapons like gatling guns and beam rifles. The escort and defend missions are, as you'd expect, the hardest parts, but there was usually an exploit I found that made them easy. I beat this game with little resistance. The only really hard part is an out of place segment at the end where you are falling down an elevator shaft and need to dodge obstacles before you crash into them. I knocked this whole thing out in about a day and find little reason to replay it. I wish the game had 30 or 40 missions because it ended just as I was really starting to enjoy it. Also, the graphics aren't the worst thing ever but they often lack a streamlined style and occasionally just look bad. If it wasn't for the graphics I probably would think this was a game from a major studio. If the developer ever creates a sequel, I think mech customization, a longer campaign and a few more bug types would make this a great game. As it is, it's still above average, granted, I have never played a bad Armored Core clone.

Classic Armored Core (think 3rd or 2nd gen), Earth Defense Force, and a splash of Gundam. It's good fun. The story isn't anything to write home about, it's more here just as an excuse to kill bugs and shoot down enemy mechs, but the gameplay is great! Fast, snappy, if a bit simplistic, but feels good. It's a fun little game and I am now very interested in seeing the dev's next project. There's some talent in here.

This game is like an essence of what makes mecha genre cool – robots clanking, lazers, missiles flying. I am not a big fan of mecha, but by the end Gearbits made me feel like I'm one of those people who grew up watching gundam on tv, and it's not a bad feeling. At the time of writing I beat the game with all achievements, and going to play the dlc next. Gearbits is totally worth trying out.

Honestly an incredibly inspiring indie-game. Playing through it definitely felt like "budget AC6", but in a *good* way, a way i can't really explain. It has a charm to it, and the controls are a lot tighter than I was expecting, I don't have much to say other than it really is a great game worth your time. It was only occasionally annoying/confusing, but no dev is perfect. And that's okay <3
