I am a big fan of the SaGa series, and SaGa Frontier 2 has always been my favorite. This remaster is more than what I hoped for. I want to say my expectation were low, but with how great the remaster of SaGa Frontier 1 was (added cut content, new character, new story elements etc..), I was excited to see what this remaster would offer. Overall, its the same game but with some QoL, a hefty NG+ and some new systems. There are some new playable characters like Flynn, new locked items per characters that makes them more distinguishable, a new system called "parameter inheritance" (which allow you to link 2 characters together, having their stats added together) making the game considerably easier in some aspects, a message log to reread dialogue, an easier way to access storage and equipped characters and a new way to display scenarios by year they happened so you wont miss any "secret" or "missable" scenarios if you were to play them out of order. They also fully implemented the Dig Dig Digger mini-game, which many of us had no idea what it was back then since you needed a Pocketstation in a memory card slot. These were never released in Europe and North America. So you are finally able to collect various diggers and send them on digs for a certain amount of time while you continue to play the game. These diggers will eventually come back with various items from the game (which some are actually very very good) to be used at your leisure or simply scrap them for more chips. These excavation also have an inventory of their own so you can keep these items stored outside of your normal inventory which is super useful too. Keep in mind that if you dont like, or want to play with the new additions the remaster offers, you are able to play the game in a mode that strips everything and let you play the game just you would on the PS1. The backgrounds have been remastered as well, some may look a little blurry but at no time did it bothered me. I think the game looked very nice. There is a pretty big NG+ which I wont go into too much. But, you have the options of NG+ that was already present in the base game but also have new super boss and the ability to choose any existing party members, equip any items you have (even locked items) to mix and match the party of your choosing for this added content. I consider this a very good remaster, and for such a niche game to receive this treatment, I cant be more happy.

Honestly, I hated the story for this game when I beat it on the Playstation. I figured I'll give it a new go since its on Steam because I like the watercolor artwork and the battle music is awesome. But as I was going thru learning new techs, I'm like... this is not really fun and I already know how each story ends so... Giving a thumbs up for bringing it to Steam, but this is going to be rough for new folks.

this game has occupied space in my mind and heart for over 20 years. it was purchased for me on the original playstation by my grandmother when i was no older than 5. i was too young and dumb to really understand it or get very far then but i was enraptured by the visuals and the music. the remaster was released a couple months after my grandmother passed. today, i am 28 years old, drinking her favorite premixed margaritas while playing this game in its entirety for the first time.
