Okay, so let's start with the negatives and get them out of the way: -Very few people are playing the game (I have sometimes been online when only 12 others are on) -There is DEFINITELY a steep learning curve, you will not immediately be good at this game just because you're good at CS -The map design (although it's brilliant) can be quite difficult to comprehend when first starting to play the game -The graphics are old, but not particularly bad by any means -The community who typically play on the game have been playing for a very long time, therefore you will be killed A LOT when you first start -Some of the maps are horribly optimised Now for the positives, and there are many: -It's free, you literally have nothing to lose if it's free -The community of the game is still somewhat active; I've found that even when there is nobody online, simply joining a server will attract others to play with you in a matter of minutes -The community is one of the nicest of any game that I have ever played, they are all very helpful and kind to newcomers -Tournaments are still regularly held -You can tell that the developers genuinely cared about the finished product due to the immense amount of detail put into the game -The game is very satisfying when you get the hang of it -The game will run on almost ANY computer regardless of the specs, so any of your friends will be able to play it too This is the kind of game that you can load up and have some fun with (given that there is anyone online). The community is the heart of this game, and if you like that, this is the game for you. In my somewhat limited experience, people usually play on Fridays, but most of the players are people who have been playing for quite some time, so be warned, you will get killed a lot. One thing that I would ask of new players like myself is to try and get as many people interested in this game as possible, and help to bring it back!

As old as this game is, it's still the best Ghost in the Shell themed shooter out there. If you love Ghost in the Shell or even just cyberpunk in general, I definitly recommend this game. The only sad thing about this game is the fact that hardly anyone is playing it anymore. For such a great Ghost in the Shell-like game, you'd think that there would be a much larger community around it.
NeoTokyo is a tactical cyberpunk shooter set in Japan where two distinct orginisations fight each other for dominance. A terrorist/rebel group and Japan's Government Forces. Its like Counter strike but with leaning, bunnyhopping and Capture-the-Ai, its fun, and needs a couple hundred more players
NeoTokyo sets you in a cyberpunk world where you fight and get brutally blown apart. Its surprisingly good fun but lacks the players, the only reason i am not playing is this. I only managed to get 80 minutes as of this review being published and I hardly know about the advanced mechanics. Its worth the download, its free too

Awesome community as well, really friendly ppl. Dont give up on it just cuz u cant kill someone, practice and u will have the hang of it. Communicate alot with your friend and you will achive victory. Dont let NEOTOKYO die, this wonderful game is what GITS online should have been.

Note, I played this game well before steam started tracking hours. I have much more play time than 1.4 hours ! Also, to be be clear most of this is written from my memories of playing this game 6 years ago now :) Neotokyo came a bit after the golden period of massive free to play FPS games, like Combat Arms, Blackshot, Sudden Attack, Alliance of Valiant Arms among many others. However, it gave a bit of breath into what I would say was the fall of the F2P FPS model. Being a mod, it offered a plethora of modified variants to the standard FPS game modes all without the overarching micro-transaction schemes that plagued other F2P FPS games. To me, this was a gem of a game. It offered a bit of hype on its release with a stellar trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOh3xYPrYF8 It also introduced its new populace to a great universe, namely, Ghost in the Shell. A bit topical now considering the impending release of the live action movie; I digress, this was a great introduction to interesting character archetypes. Some of which are even utilized somewhat in the F2P FPS Ghost in the Shell: First Assault (not to say that they copied, but to show it's ability to carry over the common character themes.) In addition to it's legacy, Neotokyo had or I should say, still has one of the best soundtracks in modern gaming. Made by Ed Harrison: https://edharrison.bandcamp.com/ (Seriously, give it a listen :)). Although I have given this game a recommendation it is quite reserved. As it stands, the game is with-out-a-doubt: dead. If possible, gather some buddies and have an in-house together, or just explore the maps by yourself. You'll give yourself a treat viewing what I believe to be some of the best put together community maps pre-workshop alongside a fantastic soundtrack.
