I'm a huge fan of this gameplay style of trying to keep the character pure while falling victim to game mechanics. The caveat is that you can corrupt the character to the point of no return and nearly soft locking progress. There's ways to recover from effects and keep going, but for anyone trying to see all the content they'll find their characters stats get worse and worse.
Personally I love this, but looking at the reviews being mixed I can understand why some people think the game is too hard or tedious.
I hope the mixed reviews don't stop Quarta Emerald from getting an official ENG release on steam in the future.
