Rayman Legends is a masterclass in platforming design, offering a richly imaginative and fluidly responsive experience that stands as one of the genre's modern high points. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, this sequel to Rayman Origins takes everything that made its predecessor successful and amplifies it with more content, better mechanics, and a wild explosion of artistic creativity. The game’s release on Steam brought its vibrant, hand-drawn aesthetic and smooth controls to PC audiences, where it continues to be a benchmark for 2D platforming excellence.
From the moment you dive into the game, it’s clear that Rayman Legends is brimming with personality. Each level is its own small world, meticulously crafted with dynamic backgrounds, quirky enemies, and music that ranges from whimsical to epic. The game uses its visual style not just for flair but as an integral part of gameplay. Background elements spring to life, platforms shift with rhythm, and hazards are cleverly masked as parts of the scenery until they suddenly animate into motion. The result is an experience that feels both carefully designed and joyfully unpredictable. Unlike many modern platformers that rely heavily on challenge alone, Rayman Legends celebrates creativity and momentum, making it equally rewarding to complete a level flawlessly or simply to revel in its artistic ambition.
The controls are tight and responsive, which is essential for a game that often demands precision and quick reflexes. Rayman and his companions move with fluidity, allowing players to chain jumps, wall runs, glides, and attacks in satisfying succession. The design of each stage encourages experimentation, and while the learning curve ramps up steadily, it never feels punishing. Levels are designed to be replayed, especially when going for hidden collectibles like Teensies or aiming for time trial medals. These elements extend the game’s longevity well beyond the initial playthrough, rewarding both casual runs and deep mastery. The inclusion of daily and weekly challenges with online leaderboards adds even more replay value, encouraging friendly competition and continual improvement.
A standout feature in Rayman Legends is the musical levels. These rhythm-based stages synchronize every jump, punch, and slide with remixed versions of recognizable songs. Whether you’re speeding through a fiery level to a mariachi rendition of “Eye of the Tiger” or navigating castle traps to a fast-paced rock tune, these stages are unforgettable. They inject a kinetic energy into the game that few platformers manage to match, and their inclusion feels both playful and ingenious. These levels alone are worth playing the game for, as they seamlessly blend gameplay mechanics with musical rhythm in a way that feels effortless and exhilarating.
The game also supports local co-op multiplayer for up to four players, transforming levels into chaotic yet fun shared adventures. The design accommodates both solo and group play, with level structure adjusting to suit different player counts. While online multiplayer isn’t available in the PC version, the couch co-op mode offers plenty of opportunities for both cooperation and hilarious sabotage. Characters like Globox and Barbara each offer the same mechanical abilities as Rayman, but their individual animations and personalities keep the gameplay feeling fresh when switching between them.
In terms of content, Rayman Legends is staggeringly generous. It includes over 100 levels, not just from the new campaign but also reimagined stages from Rayman Origins, which are unlocked as you progress. Each world introduces new gameplay mechanics, such as stealth elements, underwater navigation, or gravity-defying platforming, keeping the experience varied and engaging throughout. Additionally, the game’s progression system, based on collecting Lums and rescuing Teensies, strikes a great balance between accessibility and challenge. Players can choose to breeze through to the end or dive deep into collecting every hidden secret.
The presentation on PC is excellent, with high-resolution graphics and smooth frame rates that showcase the game’s hand-drawn art in all its glory. The optimization is solid, with minimal load times and compatibility across a wide range of hardware. While the game was originally developed with touch-based mechanics for certain mini-games and puzzles, these have been seamlessly translated to keyboard or controller inputs on PC, with no noticeable detriment to gameplay. The art direction, animation, and sound design are consistently top-tier, reinforcing the sense that every element in Rayman Legends was polished with care and attention to detail.
Despite all its strengths, the game isn't without minor shortcomings. The lack of online multiplayer is a missed opportunity, especially given how enjoyable local co-op is. Some players may also find the difficulty spikes in later levels a bit jarring, particularly if they’re aiming for 100% completion. Still, these issues are small in the grand scheme of the experience and do little to diminish the game’s overall quality.
Ultimately, Rayman Legends is not just a great platformer—it’s a celebration of the genre itself. It respects the traditions of classic side-scrollers while injecting them with boundless energy, imagination, and humor. Whether you’re a seasoned platforming veteran or someone new to the genre, the game offers something for everyone: responsive controls, stunning art, inventive level design, and an overflowing amount of content. It’s a game that radiates joy and creativity, and one that stands as a defining entry in Rayman’s legacy and in the wider pantheon of platform games.

I played this game to death when I was younger, honestly one of the best platformers of our Generation. HOWEVER, there is this god awful motion blur which completely ruins the graphics of the game when sprinting. Like legit, game art style looks incredible, once you start moving everything that is not pre-rendered in the background becomes straight ass. Maybe I am stupid or something, but I searched it up, no way to remove it. Maybe if you are a game wizard and edit the config files you can, but I couldn't find anything. :(

Rayman Legends is a great 2D platformer. It's bright, creative, and packed with so much charm. The hand-drawn art pops off the screen, the music is ridiculously catchy, and the levels are just bursting with creativity. Those rhythm-based stages in particular are amazing. Running and jumping to the beat never gets old. If you love platformers, this is an easy recommendation. It’s polished, joyful, and just a straight-up good time.

Great game, but f*** Ubisoft and their stupid third-party software bs that is required to run the game. The real price of this game is having to deal with a launcher that doesn't work and constantly opens unprompted to ruin your day even if you're not playing a f***ing Ubisoft game. If you want a fantastic Rayman experience, just play Rayman Origins. It's a better game with the added benefit of no third-party bs.
P.S Add achievements to Rayman Origins
