A wonderfully atmospheric game, set on an alien moon colonized by humans in the distant future and now facing environmental and social meltdown. Puzzles are many and varied, and very satisfying to solve (top tips: search everywhere, read everything, ignore nothing). Playing on an ultrawide screen, the only hiccup I encountered was in the final puzzle, which temporarily needed -windowed on the game launch options to solve. Looking forward to the next chapter, as Zory tries to save Hippalectryon.

I'd rate a 9/10. Here's why (spoiler free)... First, I have to say that since this is not a big budget game, my rating doesn't reflect graphics or texture glitches. It looks good, and yes there's a few glitches along the way, but what made that not matter was the story! This game has such a well thought out and deep narrative that I couldn't help but think about it even while I wasn't playing (the graphic novel was a nice touch as well). Also, the environments were really interesting. In fact, now that I've finished, I'm realizing there's quite a bit that we'll probably come back to in later chapters. And I have to say, the sound design was absolutely fantastic. If you have a good pair of headphones, use them! Now for the puzzles... I prefer puzzles in games that add or complement the narrative being told, and there was definitely a good bit of that. However, there were two puzzles that I had to look up. The first was due to its design. I correctly guessed what I needed to do, but at first, it didn't look possible due to the camera angle. The other (last puzzle) felt out of place. Unless I missed it, there's no hint in the narrative or the environment for how to solve it. And even if there was, you can't backtrack to see if you missed any clues. That's not necessarily a bad thing because being unable to backtrack seemed to fit the story. But after looking up the solution, I felt like the way in which the puzzle needed to be solved missed an opportunity to complement the story. It was actually the only "trial and error" puzzle in the game, which is why it felt out of place for me. Aside from those couple nit picks, I'm excited to see where this goes in future chapters! If you're into games that drop you into a story-rich world where it's up to you to figure out its mysteries (Myst, Riven, Obduction, Quern, etc), then I highly recommend A Whisper in the Twilight.

This review may say I've only played for 28 minutes, but that is how much I've played recently after buying the game. Full disclosure: I'm a QA for AWITT and have played Chapter 1 many times during the testing period. For his pandemic project, the developer, Max Rudy Magni, decided to turn his book The War of the Cults, into a game. This involved teaching himself Unreal Engine, and the results—apart from a few quirks like not quite getting the "save" points right, something that left us QAs cursing at times—are truly magical. The games I truly love are story strong, and AWITT is steeped in story. Several people have said that there is a lot of information to take in right from the start. This is true, but gamers will have received, along with the game, an illustrated Prologue that tells the backstory to AWITT. This Prologue adds yet one more layer to the richness of the game, as do all the journals, voice logs and character interactions you will encounter. The puzzles can be challenging, but built into solving them is the necessity of keeping your eyes and ears open at the same time as exploring every nook and cranny. And I heartily concur with all the reviewers who have lauded the look and sound of the game. There aren't any Steam "achievements" to be had in AWITT. The biggest achievement, IMO, is to fully immerse yourself into what is happening. The more you "become" Zory, the greater the impact that the end will have on you. It is well worth it, and don't forget, this is only the beginning...

This wonderfull game gives off a Myst vibe and it feels good. It looks teriffic and absorbes you completely in the game. Definitely worth your time and money, I personally can't wait to find out what will happen next to Zory, so let's hope it's not a long wait for chapter 2.

Only complaint on this game is its short length, looking forward to future chapters. Aside from that, the entire experience has a remarkably unique and creative storyline and atmosphere. The goals are clear but not completely linear and obvious, the puzzles are challenging but logically achieveable, and the voice acting and overall sound is truly remarkable and immersive. Hoping future expansions come soon.

This game is shrouded in atmosphere. I quite enjoy the exploration mixed with the nice sound. It's encouraged that you wear headphones and for good reason..the sound doesn't miss imo. Not a whole lot has happened thus far during my playthrough but a story is indeed bein' told through some pretty good voice acting and the world itself. A gem of a game right here. At 10 bucks ya can't go wrong. Recommended. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/WnY8X2wAcKI

An amazing story and production from this Indie developer (style of Myst). From the opening credits with its incredible graphics, music and effects (don't skip the opening), it is obvious that this developer put their heart and soul into this. I went to the Inorganic Visions web site and learned this is only the prologue to a 10 part series that the developer has planned. The sound and graphics are amazing (use headphones for the 3D effects). The story is superb, it is deep and exciting with many little details you can learn about on the people, animals and plants you will find in this world. Highly recommend! Let's all support our Indie developers like this, I look forward to the next chapters! Congrats and many thanks for sharing this story with the world!

Great first impressions on this one! I love the atmosphere depicted within the screens I was seeing shared from this game, and was very much looking forward to jumping in upon release! Finally, it's here, and I've enjoyed my first steps into this mysterious world ... I love the fact the credits play at the start of the game. They definitely get the game pumping with a great music and visuals! I found the intro scenes to be very interesting, bringing a slightly darker quality to the otherwise Myst-style atmosphere found within. The sound fx and voice acting work really well alongside the enthralling musical score to help captivate you as traverse through the world. Really love the chants - got big Dune vibes from this! I think the walk and run features could have been a bit faster. So far, it's been really cool seeing how vast the world looks! I look forward to exploring more, and believe fans of adventure and mystery will find something in 'A Whisper in the Twilight: Chapter One' :)

Ok so i’m only 2 hours into the game so not a full review, but all I can say is I am LOVING it!!! The most amazing visuals and audio, and there is definitely a Myst vibe going on here. A bit stuck on the puzzles at the moment to progress in the storyline, but I am so loving the immersive environment .. so all’s good. :-) A big question for me is why does the game only cost £8.50?!! I would say I’ve had my money’s worth already considering what I pay for my iPad games. For info… I am playing on iMac

Sadly, as much as I want to recommend this game, I can't in it's current state. The controls seem odd, but I figured I'd just adjust them. However there is no customize option. So I used the steam overlay to reassign them. Once I got everything working I progressed forward. Cut-scenes seem forced as I couldn't find a way to skip them, something I always do when testing out functionality. (I go back as rewatch them after about 15 to 20 of minutes of play). I made it to the part where it says it is a month later and that's when I lost all view movement. The mouse, track-pad, nor the joystick on a controller would offer any movement to pan my view, despite it working fine in the starting area just moments ago. I tried reassigning it in the steam overlay but nothing would fix it. I figured I'd just reload. However there is only an auto-save system, no manual save slots. So when I clicked play again from the main menu, to my surprised the game started over again at the beginning, which means waiting through the cut-scenes again. Once through my second attempt, view movement continued to function this time. However my character movement would often, seemingly randomly, become painfully slow, like I was moving through molasses. The run speed isn't so bad but I wish that speed was the walk speed and run was faster. Run doesn't help though when general movement get really slow. And that's not a frame-rate issue or processor slowdown, I checked. Oh and view movement is really fast, that was another thing I had to slow way down in the Steam overlay, something I wish was an option in the control settings. Collision is very odd. lots of invisible boundaries when one would not expect them. Often times wall collision doesn't match up with what you see, especially on rocky alcoves and cliff edges. This can result in clipping issues. Stairs have a slow automated ascension but you can still move on them, often sliding off to the side if you don't let go Y-axis inversion is another thing sorely misses. No option for this either so again I used the Steam overlay to solve this. The downside is that now all mouse movement is inverted in the menus and when using the cursor to select/take items. So I have to use a separate setting for the track-pad to not be inverted and switch over to that for cursor movement. Something that would easily be solved with just a standard y-axis view movement inversion option. I'd also like to have the button that opens the pause menu also close it so that I don't have to switch to the track-pad to select "back to game" every-time. I also couldn't get the "Press 'Q' to activate" message to go away once I passed through a door the second time that I had recently opened. The visuals are excellent as are the sound effects. I do believe this will be a great game once fully customize control options are added as some further QA testing is done. I'll revisit this review at that time to update it..
