I was surprised how long this took me to finish, although I agonized over so many choices so I am sure that was a fair amount of the time played. Giving this a 10/10 as it was so well done. Excellent writing, intense story, a great mix of humor, adventure, horror, drama, and very well written characters. I was completely immersed and bonded with the cast which is why making choices became so hard. I did not play on iron mode and enabled story teller mode. That was still more than intense enough for me. I had all the DLC installed. I completed as a Child of Gaia with my main strengths - humans must understand, spirit is the way. I was mostly a theurge and I focused on helping people, spirits, and Garou through wisdom and honor. There were so many possible gifts I didn't think any of them would show up as options in the choices but to my surprise the few I got (hummingbird prince - freedom, raccoon - picking locks, mother bear - heal, and, near the end, squirrel - leaps and bounds) had plenty of flavor in the choices for which was very pleased. I image all the gifts have some impact but can only speak for the ones I took. Raccoon and Hummingbird were my two favorites. I didn't have any real issues with the game. Only two minor bugs showed up. Near the end I had a few points I wanted to put into subterfuge but while the others showed up for training subterfuge simply wasn't listed (and I was with the right trainer). The second, also skill related is that awareness was maxed out at 3 points and I was still given the chance to train it for a cost of 3 days. When I did I got a 4th point in it. That seemed to be a bug. Besides that everything else went smoothly and these were very minor and not worth deducting any points from my score. Highly recommend the game, even for those not normally into these sorts of games, unless, of course, you don't enjoy reading then obviously not for you ... as this is a very long one with a lot of reading. I loved it though.

Such a delight! Highly recommended 10/10 Atmospherics writing, responsive story, memorable characters and mechanism intricately woven into the plot. Totally scratched my itch for WoD RPG, while also added to more craving. Please keep writing! Would love to see more

I was introduced to the World of Darkness through Vampire: The Masquerade and I've been a fan since. I've only been into Werewolf the Apocalypse recently, but this feels like it really captured the tone and spirit of its setting.

The Book of Hungry Names is a text-based adventure game based on Werewolf: The Apocalypse, an urban dark fantasy tabletop role-playing game which is part of the long-running World of Darkness franchise. In this Werewolf chronicle, you create, portray, and develop an up-and-coming Garou as they strive to resolve various incidents in the northeastern United States where entropy, desolation, and destruction spread. Much like in the preceding text-based chronicles created for Vampire: The Masquerade, every choice you make in a playthrough will shape your character's development and relationships with NPCs (friend and foe alike) as the story unfolds. Whether or not your character succeeds will often depend on how well-developed their Attributes and Skills are. Every now and then, your character will need to choose between various actions, each requiring a certain Attribute and Skill. For example, sneaking past enemies and/or picking locks would often require a Wits + Clandestine check, much like in the pen-and-paper World of Darkness games in all their editions. If you are a fan of the World of Darkness franchise and wish to immerse yourself in the setting of Werewolf: The Apocalypse as you play, I would definitely recommend The Book of Hungry Names for you. If anything, my only complaint is that the chapters tend to drag on for quite a while, especially during the Free Time periods in which you can develop your Attributes and/or Skills further. More importantly, like with all Choice of Games' titles, this game does not automatically save its progress unless you have registered and logged in with a Choice of Games player account.

Whatever I write here will fail to do this story justice, but I will try anyway, because this interactive media deserves it. On its own? It's already really, really good. But as a piece of media within Werewolf: The Apocalypse, one of my single favorite settings (well, individual splat of a larger setting), it absolutely understands the theme at play. It understands what Werewolf is going for and takes you along a story that feels true to the setting, in all of its bloody struggle and rare moments of levity that remind you why you are fighting for. It was, for me, a chance to finally get to play as my Garou in a story whose beats left me staring in blank shock more than once as a sympathetic figure was killed, or a sudden turn of situation left me to slowly realize what just unfolded. It gave me choices I genuinely pondered over while pacing, made me feel like one of the Garou lost in a desperate circumstances where everything feels like my decision will have terrible ramifications on the things and people I care about. A story made all the more impactful by how recent it is. The Book of Hungry Names takes place, from my understanding, in 2022 to 2024, and deals with painfully topical struggles such as the rise of AI slop, the unreliability of the Internet, the apathy of humans in the face of Gaia's death. It's a story of Rage. It's a story of trying to do the best you can in the ruins of a once-proud Garou Nation, now Shattered. And even should you achieve victory, it will always have a bittersweet tang. It's beautiful. It took me a good twenty hours to finish my playthrough, and after I did finish it, I was left to bask in it all and lie in bed pondering on it. I desperately hope that Choice of Games will make more stories about the Garou; I know they already have a choice selection of Vampire tales.
