So fun, but also so frustrating. It's simple to learn, with endless variations, but so hard to win. I have made it to the final boss so many times, and still only won once. Doesn't really detract from my enjoyment though. It's easy to pick up and play just one game. Or spend way too long playing over and over.

Fun game. To a certain extent it is similar to Balatro, but it still offers unique gameplay.

I feel when I bought this game I was "mildly positive" about it. Some cute references to other games. Straightforward but interesting enough. The devs have been polishing it a fair bit and I can now confidently say it's a fully positive review. Good job purple moss.

Above all, D&DG nails the general atmosphere. To me, this is the highlight. The tavern where the game takes place is quirky, seedy, and all sorts of bizarre at once, with music and artwork fully supporting the vibe conjuration process. There's no proper story to speak of, but I don't believe its presence would've done the game much (if any) good anyway. The gameplay is on the level, with decks and individual cards being varied enough to keep the game fresh for a good amount of time. Blackjack isn't exactly the most intricate of games, but I'd say the game has succeeded in reforging the concept into something that's obviously blackjack-adjacent, yet also full of its own strengths and charm. Overall, I'm having a good time, and I intend to keep going for a while longer.

I love Balatro, which is why I picked up this game, but after 15 hours of trying really hard to like it I just can't recommend it barring a major rebalance. What makes a roguelite deckbuilder good tends to be its balance and the player's ability to cultivate a winning deck over the course of a run. Slay the Spire, for example, is so well-balanced that you can win a run with just about any card in your deck if played right, and StS gives you plenty of opportunities to craft a winning deck through card removal, card upgrades, card copying, etc. Dungeons and Degenerate Gamblers doesn't really do any of this in a way I would consider satisfying. There are plenty of opportunities to add cards from a random selection of 3-4 after every encounter in addition to shops, but there are so many cards that are either bad enough to never want to take, or so good that you will always take them when presented. The same could be said for the passive chips that you get at the start of the game which grant a consumable called advantage that can be used to play additional cards or use a card's effect. Conversely, card removal is incredibly hard to come by, especially after the starting area (on another note, each run from start to finish is way too long in my opinion). This leads to a tendency to play every run the exact same way, taking the same types of cards and the same chips every time, which leads to runs feeling very samey and unsatisfying. But even good cards aren't enough in many cases, because you usually can only play one card at a time that you can't see before playing (this is blackjack, after all), so the wrong card played at the wrong time means that sometimes you just straight up lose. And losing can take a very long time because shielding and healing exists for both sides, so you might as well restart when you get to this point (very frustrating when you're really deep into a run!) After the umpteenth time of basically softlocking myself by drawing the wrong card at the wrong time, I've decided to call it quits and uninstall, at least until a major rebalance happens (if ever). I think almost every card needs to be looked over, and the devs should probably rethink the advantage system as it exists right now as well. Barring that, I can't recommend this even as someone who really wants to like it, as a fan of both blackjack and roguelite deckbuilders.

I really enjoy this game. The cards and their abilities are creative, the enemies and their decks you play against can be fun and challenging. But there's a great bit of RNG over control i feel towards building the perfect deck and even if you build a good deck, you'll get screwed over enemies with decks that counter yours well. You REALLY need ability/item cards ASAP or as much as possible in a run to soften blows. Overall fun time killer
