As a Balatro and rogue-like enjoyer, I wanted to like this game. But its just a card battler that dials the RNG to the maximum. There are no feel-good moments where you out-play the opponent, you just either get lucky or you get unlucky. Which I guess thematically fits, but it makes for a dreadfully boring gameplay loop.

I can see how this game can be fun and it is with how wild the cards can be. However, I do think it isn't balanced enough to be a good rogue like game. If you have to restart over and over at the beginning because the first opponent keeps getting a higher value than you (all in luck at this point with no tricks to use) then it gets a tad bit tiring. The shield does make a round last way longer than it needs to be because ever rarely does your opponent gets over 21, they normally have the range of 18 to 21 when they end their draws. Opponents have different numbers they have to stop at, with the first being 17 which is pretty hard. Others have 13 which is pretty easy and others just always get the numbers they want.
There is some hope and room to improve with this title, but I cannot find myself playing this hours on end because of the amount of restarts I have to do because of the early luck factor.

Kinda iffy on launch, but they’ve balanced the game fairly well at this point and I’d say it’s a WINNER! Finding all the fun ways to cheat at blackjack against the other cheaters to see who can cheat better, is quite thrilling.
This is NOT just a Balatro clone, it’s got a whole different dangle to its dong.
Worth the price, give it a shot!

I was very excited to try this game and even though the demo was good enough to get me hooked on, what came after the paywall was not exactly fun.
The game sells you a blackjack roguelike (which you probably think is a blackjack Balatro), but later on it turns more into a card battler and blackjack becomes a background thing...
You play blackjack against a character, whoever gets the highest score bellow 21 deals damage based on the score difference. If you hit 21 you get a bonus effect based on the suit of your last drawn card. If you score more than 21 your score is set to 0 so the damage you take is higher.
The reason why it turns into a card battler is that all these different characters have their own decks based on the personality/job they suggest. For example: a gambling addict has all cards with probabilities; a vampire has cards that leech HP; a witch has cards that poison you or permanently turn your cards into garbage ones. This means that the game stops being about blackjack because it focuses more on cards that damage, heal, block, etc. rather than cards that help you hit 21.
The fact that a lot of characters (especially bosses) can modify and steal your cards goes against the nature of a deckbuilder and kills all motivation to keep playing. Even if you build a good deck, you're still going to lose your good cards to some bullshit.
Another thing that really annoyed me, is that I got softlocked by a boss that heals off the cards I play and reduces their rank, so he kept healing to max health while my cards got weaker everytime. And if this wasn't enough, he had a card that directly damages you, and gets stronger everytime it is used.
In conclusion, the game is very unbalanced, it has many flaws, it keeps messing with your deck and has little replayability.

The fast pace and lower mental tax this takes compared to Balatro as well as more instant gratification makes this pretty fun and easy-going. It has great personality, sets itself apart from others in the genre quite well, is pretty satisfying to play, and has a good amount of content. This checks pretty much all the boxes so if you're craving for another gambling card game roguelite, you should probably buy this.

It's very difficult at the start, but once you get the hang of it and learn the cards, you can start building strategies that make it easier. Very fun and lots of replayability!

On the surface this game is fun and interesting. However the core game design needs to be polished and more balanced. The (blood card) and (shield card) should probably be removed or further balanced because they can cause the player to be in a loop with the opposing enemy with no end in sight of the round. Additionally I came across an unfortunate major bug that should be patched as it caused the enemy Thief to continuously draw the (death card) without ever placing a card down. I believe this was because the (death card) had an ability to draw the top of their deck but the Thief enemy only had another (death card) so the game went on forever waiting for the enemy to finish playing their hand.
As someone who is employed as a QA - UI Tester, the UI could also be cleaned up and polished because the sizing is odd for Windowed mode, and there should be more size options or the player to have ability to manually stretch the window to fit the player's screen. Other complaint is the player should have to hover > select > and then confirm if they want to take a new card. The reason being is that the game has a (blue card that does nothing) and it looks the same as the card the player would select and flip. This can result in the player unintentionally grabbing the (blue none card) because the UX design has taught them to flip similar cards. Suggestion is to remove the none card or clean up the hover/select conditions to avoid confusing the player.
I may recommend this game to others after further polishing of the UI/UX and balancing of the game-play. Thanks for reading!

Played my share of runs somewhere around 1.1 - 1.2
Never had to look up a wiki or guides, some of the mechanics are a bit subtle, but ultimately communicated well enough to give you a delightful sense of discovery.
Got wins with most of the decks, I believe I played through to the "Final Ending" ( which is worth spoiling as little as possible )
That being said, I've done my best not to spoil anything below, I've just wrapped it in the tags as a courtesy.
The "True ending", when you unlock it, is a delightful little treat. If you stick with the game long enough to get there, I have no doubt you'll appreciate it.
That being said, I vaguely recall feeling a little bit underwhelmed by it.
Let me be clear, I was NOT disappointed, I guess I just expected a bit more out of the delivery.
Maybe it's refined in the new update, I wouldn't know, I haven't hopped back in yet.
If you've enjoyed Balatro and you're looking for something else to scratch the itch from a different angle, you'll probably enjoy this.
Despite the handful of superficial similarities ( Nutty fantasy gambling sim roguelite that doesn't take itself seriously at all ) D&DG takes an entirely different path to explore the design space and flesh out a thoroughly delightful little game.
Ultimately, I mean, like, just watch the trailer. It is what it looks like. If you're checking the reviews to see if it falls short, it doesn't.
One thing I can really appreciate these days is that it never tries to sprawl outside of its scope. There's enough encounters and events to give you several hours of discovery and enjoyment, but there's not too many to where you start feeling overwhelmed. You get to a point where you generally understand what sort of randomness to expect, and feel confident in choosing between one thing or the other.
The difficulty curve seemed to balance the variety of the content nicely.
If you have "That itch to complete things" like I do, it holds you in the roguelite loop just long enough for you to thoroughly shake off the novelty and appreciate all the content a few times, and then it gives you a solid pat on the back and lets you off nicely :)
Anyways, Solid game.
Good job devs
