I’m so pumped about this game! Warside is more than just the successor to the Advance Wars franchise; it’s on track to be the best game in the genre by a light year. Dev support is stellar. They are listening to the players and updates are rolling out constantly. I'm enjoying it so much that I bought it for my brother and friends and they are just as excited. Buy this game if you are a fan of the genre and be come a part of something truly inspiring.

I was disappointed when this game came out. The dev has won me over enough to leave a positive review, but I'm not sure it's fully worth the price tag - yet. There are lots of updates planned and if you read this in a couple months I very well may have no complaints.
That being said, no local multi-player is a huge bummer. I pre-ordered this game to play with my wife and I'm not about to buy it twice just for that. Honestly, if that alone was in place I would be gushing over this game. Yes, the story is straight cheese, but I never played these games for the story.
Things I like: the AI is significantly better than launch and is actually really fun to play against now especially on higher difficulties. I love some of the design choices, even controversial ones like no prompt to make sure you want to commit to an action. The units are solid, but i hope they keep adding as it feels a bit incomplete atm.
Overall, I'd say if you have extra cash and like advanced wars/wargroovw, get it. If you are on the fence, give it a couple months.

Warside was really enjoyable. The designs, animations, and map variety are really well thought out and beautiful. Each level has its own unique style and mechanics, which made playing the game a lot of fun. The AI was much better than I expected; you really have to think while playing. Overall, I can say it's a very nice and enjoyable game, and I recommend it to everyone.

if you like tactics games like advance wars, do yourself a favor and pick this up! it clearly was heavily inspired by advance wars; but they do some different things with the genre.. and no one is making advance wars anymore. They seem like they had a rough launch , but it seems like they were making some changes to the game and not giving up .
I wish it had some more stuff like an undo button since you may often misclick and forget to attack. Check the game out ! and you can always refund it if you aren't loving it.

I love a good tactical battle where knockback actually matters. Rhino is my favorite tank here. Should have some more tile utilization rather than just work as a terrain tho. Hope there will be some update in the future!

I’ll preface by saying this: If you are really into advance wars type games, you’ll probably enjoy this one and it’ll be worth a purchase. But for the average strategy gamer or someone who is not seeking out an advance wars clone specifically, I would not recommend you start here. This isn’t a bad game, but others in the genre do it better and this is one to play down the road when you decide you’re a fan of advance wars games.
Anyway, there is a decent game here. As for late July, disregard all the reviews complaining about it feeling unfinished. The game is done. It went from a very bare bones situation with 22ish missions and blatantly missing content to an almost overly long campaign of about 30 missions. We now have skirmish, a complete campaign, and missing sounds, powers, etc, are fixed. Good work to the developers.
It’s when you compare this game with other modern advanced wars like IPs in the genre like Wargroove 1&2 and Athena Crisis, its just so mediocre. Others have a ton of stuff Warside is missing. Like a working encyclopedia so we can actually understand the units and their stats, special abilities for units to encourage strategic thinking, and a working rock-paper-scissors formula, a replayable mode that isn’t skirmish, etc.
One of my main gripes is how shallow the strategy feels. Tank spam to beat up enemy units, infantry spam to choke the points, a mobile SAM in the back line for anti-air. Tanks are an obvious choice for what to build. They are relatively cheaper to build than focusing on air units if air units are available. There is no anti-tank infantry so really the only threat is other tanks and artillery, to which the answer is your own tanks and artillery. It’s not a functioning rock-paper-scissors system. Air units are very expensive, so the AI rarely produces them, and you’ll typically only see enemy air units when the start off with a handful of them.
Also the campaign is a bit long. I like wargroove 2’s replayable rogue-like campaign that keeps you playing, saving you from the campaign slog. The AI can the exploited (it obviously prioritizes capturing buildings) but is not bad! Providing a decent challenge for those looking for it.
People complain about writing and story, but those things are usually trivial in an advance-wars like. When they are good, it’s a plus! But when they are bad, oh well.
Warside is not bad, I finished it and had fun. But it’s just not great either. But I don’t regret my purchase, as I love advanced wars like games and am happy to support the genre.

It's a good game for the price. I wouldn't say it's a must have, but if you see it on sell it can be a good buy.
Something that I wished it had was more infantry options.

Does it scratch the advance wars itch? Yes.
Was it released unfinished? Also yes.
It's a decent game to scratch the advance wars itch, but if it wasn't for the original, this game would lose a lot of its appeal.

This game really reminds me a lot of one of the modes in Guardian Tales. It has pixel art and a great presentation. On the surface, it feels like it could be something fun and replayable because it has some good ideas, mixing land and air battles, unit variety, and commander powers. The vibe is there. It looks like something I’d sink hours into.
Problem is, once you actually start playing, the cracks show pretty fast. The biggest issue is the lack of clarity around unit strengths and weaknesses. You’d think a tactics game like this would show at a glance what each unit counters, but no. There is no tooltip or overlay when you want to attack an enemy unit. You have to manually check a separate building (the barracks or factory) to see what each unit is good or bad against. That is burdening me as a player, especially when this kind of info is crucial to gameplay. It turns what should be quick decisions into a chore and makes the game more about memorization than freely playing while thinking about tactics.
Then there is the movement system, which is just frustrating. If your unit can move up to 10 tiles, but you only move 3 and click by mistake, that’s it, the turn is over. There is no cancel, no undo. You missclick once, and now your whole game plan is ruined. This might sound minor, but in a tactics game where positioning is everything, it matters a lot. I misplayed multiple turns just because I thought I could still adjust my unit’s position because I didn't move it as much as it can.
The AI also feels punishingly aggressive, especially for newer players. Make one mistake, lose one or two fights in crucial territory, and the enemy snowballs hard. There is barely any breathing room or chance to bounce back. Once they start taking territory, your economy dies, and the rest of the match is just watching yourself lose slowly.
There is definitely potential in Warside. It looks great, the concept is solid, and I actually want to like it. But as it stands, the lack of UI clarity, unforgiving controls, and overwhelming AI make it more frustrating than fun for the current version of the game. Wish the devs would listen to the feedback and implement it into the game so this game can be more polished in the future!

TLDR; The gameplay is very good, alot of the art is also good. if you want an Advance wars like game, this is the best on the market (I didn't like Wargroove). Just be prepared for everything else to be middling at best in this game.
My first impressions is that the game play is fun, they've made a fun game, but the campaign kinda sucks. Most missions are just destroy all enemies on the map, with no side or alternate objectives. The music is also so damn bland i just put a video on the background after an hour of it. Also the dialogue in the campaign sucks, Characters just kinda announce what they're going to do, a lot of the humor is mostly reference based (Which is sorta funny? i mean i basically just gave a slight snort at Ava's dialogue, but that's because it also references Jackson's reference to the star war prequel's Which his joke was a meta-joke that the dialogue sucked and it makes no sense for him to just quote Anakin.) Overall some mixed feelings but this is definitely the best Advance-wars esque game on steam as far as i know. It just sucks i can only recommend it to people like me who found the idea of playing advance wars on PC with a mouse very appealing.
