This sounds like the weirdest game, and while it is, it actually works. Tons of items and combinations/builds to explore, loads of unlockabales. Very good for a casual sitdown.

I highly recommend picking this game up if you're looking for a unique take on the turn based style of combat system! EVERY action you take is determined by what you can pick up from the claw machine. Simple controls and an even simpler system requirement to play! WIN-WIN!!! (I got this as part of a bundle with Brotato, both games are well worth the sub £15 price tag and MORE!)

Speaking honestly, it's worth the price of admission. $10 is about on the nose for what this game offers, but getting it for less than that means you're much less likely to get buyer's remorse. It's significantly better than it was when it first launched for sure, but that bar was already very low to start. The real draw here is the unique nature of the game, and not a whole lot else. Because of that, the game runs its course VERY quickly. For example, the characters all lean heavily into one specific aspect of the game and your success relies heavily on RNG/luck. After a few runs, the builds you need to succeed are spelled out for you from the moment you look at the benefits of each character. There's only one final boss, and he gains damage boosts if you gain gold in any capacity during your fight, so gold grinding builds are basically a one-way ticket to failure on any run unless your build is absolutely cracked and can kill him before things snowball, which it quickly does. The introduction of paws to gain added benefits on subsequent runs is nice, but since there's seemingly no other paws in the game to earn besides what comes with winning a run with each character, the variety is boiled down to what you've managed to earn and many of them don't synergize well. If they add a bunch of extra paws you can earn with smaller bonuses that can fill in the gaps in specific builds, this game will have more replay value. Which basically brings me to my biggest gripe with this game: the lack of replay value. Because the main gimmick of this game runs its course quickly, you'll get about five or six hours into the game before you're starting to look for the exit. I'm not sure what they could possibly do to rectify this, but a roguelike with no replay value is a sinking ship that is rapidly taking on water. A lesser gripe is that if you want any of the alternative costumes, you have to join the Discord to get the codes. Not just the Discord, you also have to visit a bunch of random YouTubers' videos about them to find out their codes (and as you might guess, many of these costumes are inspired by the YouTubers in question). In all fairness, the codes are given within the first handful of minutes watching, but it's just silly. So in summary, saving grace for Dungeon Clawler is the relatively low price of admission and its unique gimmick, but sadly marred by said gimmick's quick burnout and the overall lack of replayability.

As somebody who loves playing claw machines and has a winning streak at them irl, I'm actually very impressed by the accurate as hell physics of this game and the strategising. I cannot say enough about how good this game is for an early access title. It has made me more invested in videogame claw machines than my local irl arcade. Zero negative feedback, love to stream this to friends, the soundtrack is such a bop too.

You know that feeling when the claw machine grabs a prize and you're super excited to get it but the moment it hits the top, the prize falls back down? Yea. That's this game.

I see a lot of comments sort of ripping this game apart for not following every standard of a rogue-like, or not having replay-ability but to all of that I just have to say I bought this game for $8 lmao. If I can get an hour of fun out of a game per $1 spent, then I think it's a fair ratio. And I'm reviewing this game almost 8 hours in, and my ROI ratio has been met, with still some to spare. This isn't a big fantasy RPG game like Skyrim that is supposed to have years of replay value. It's a unique take on an already niche sub genre of gaming. Ya'll need to stop holding every game you ever play to the same measuring stick - it just doesn't make sense lol. I will never say someones opinion is wrong, but man. Pros - It's unique. It's a cool twist on the genre that I honestly thought going into it, I wouldn't enjoy. But thankfully the claw physics are nowhere near as dreadful as real life claw machines. You will miss some grabs, just due to how filled up and crowded the machine can get when you overfill your deck - but it's a problem that becomes self inflicted, and just adds a bit of needed challenge. - Multiple characters to start: I've read a bit in the reviews that even though there's different characters, you cant really make like "a build" so to speak. Where as there is some truth to that, I did enjoy not being locked into having to beat an entire run with a character just to unlock the next playable character. There were already a handful of available characters, and I got to use a character that more fit my "gaming personality" type if you will. I enjoy this level of freedom, and their specific perks did feel unique enough to feel separated from one another. - The overall aesthetic and vibe is just cool and fun. It's very vibey if you will lol. Soundtrack is a bop, the colors are not overwhelming or jarring to look at (I feel this is important for a game where you're going to be intently staring at one thing for 2 hours at a time). Cons - I think generally some more of the key functionalities/synergies could be explained better. I did not understand why I would feel the need to transmute cards for a hot a minute. I saw that each card had an icon, and that they meant something, but the game (unless I missed something) never really tells you why that's important. It may seem obvious to some, but if you start the run on the default character (which I imagine most people do) there's really no need to build a whole build around a specific type of card (glass, wood, metal, etc). It becomes fairly obvious using the magnet hand dude that you're intentionally supposed to use transmute feature, but even then I still had to google it just to make sure I understood that my suspicion was correct. Overall summary - ya'll it's $10 full price, which alone has been more than worth my time, and I got it even cheaper than that (on sale at the time of this review). I can see myself putting in 10 more hours into the game, just from an unlocking standpoint, and there is more than enough here to keep me coming back to it even if it's just as a game I boot up to unwind after a long work day, but I don't want to get invested into some big long story heavy game. If you're on the fence and you enjoy other rogue-like games like Slay the Spire, Monster Train, etc (or maybe even if you just like claw machines I guess?) I think this is a perfect title for you.

Permanent Ads on homescreen. Always a Downvote for this practice. I resent paying to see Ads on my laptop. This is not a mobile game. Ugly invasive form of ad creep. WILL NOT accept attempts to normalize it.
