At the time of writing this review, the game is in Early Access on patch 0.2.something, and so far, I have no complaints. There are several points I'd like to highlight for praise. The graphics: When I first started playing the game, I was immediately overwhelmed by the graphics. This isn't a view that desperately tries to appear realistic and fails miserably, but rather a beautiful anime optic that - in my opinion - creates a great atmosphere in touch with the story. At times, it feels like you're actively participating in an anime. (If you don't like those kinds of graphics or stories, you'll be out of place here.) The images in the preview aren't edited, exaggerated, or anything like that, and I simply love the attention to detail. There were moments in my first few hours of playing that truly surprised me, just because of everything you could see. (I won’t spoil it here.) Another plus point: I can play the game on my medium-equipped PC at almost the highest graphics currently available. The only thing that causes stuttering is when I set the texture details to maximum. My PC doesn't support that, but otherwise, it looks extremely good even without all other details set to high. Even though it stutters like crazy for me, I tried it with everything set to high and it's a feast for the eyes for anime fans and people who love such graphics. The story: At first, I wasn't 100% convinced about immersing myself in a world with demons from Asian mythology, but I finally gave it a try. Without giving away too many spoilers, I have to say that the implementation is actually quite enjoyable! I felt immersed, had the feeling I was truly discovering new things, and even though many parts aren't accessible yet what I’ve seen so far is really good and I can hardly wait to see how the story continues. The character design: What bothered me in the first few minutes was that I couldn't customize my character. (I don't know if this feature will be added; it's currently unavailable.) But after those few minutes, it didn't bother me anymore. I was completely immersed, and since the character (female) is really cute, I can't complain in the end. On top of that, the NPCs are adorable! Each one is beautifully designed, the graphics show details that are also visible in the dialogue portraits, and overall, I feel like I'm only getting a detailed close-up of the character with every small talk. Additionally, some of the characters already have their own little quirks, and some are easier to befriend than others. The blacksmith, for example, seems extremely open to friendship, at least based on my experience so far. After the praise, now a little criticism that might bother other players, although I personally don’t mind it: The farm: The house itself is really cute in my opinion, and I personally don't mind that it can't be moved. I haven't expanded it yet, but I love the farm's design. However, so far, it seems like the basic layout can't be changed. So, if you're looking for something you can customize yourself like in Stardew Valley, you'll probably be disappointed. The areas for the fields are (currently) predefined and can be expanded, but you can't decide where they will be. In addition, the buildings for the animals will probably also be in a fixed location, at least based on the layout of the area. Whether there's more room for creativity here, I currently can't say. The combat system: Personally, I rarely get along with the combat system in these games. This system wasn't particularly good in Rune Factory, Stardew Valley, or other games, so I'm not expecting any masterpieces here. What really bothered me was that at some points, hitting back was almost impossible with some enemy types. The animations are nice, but if they don't allow me to hit back, it gets a bit difficult... Overall, I highly recommend buying the game, even though it's not completely finished yet. If it maintains its quality and the story continues to be told in the way it is currently, then there's nothing to really complain about - at least from my point of view. I've searched, but haven't been able to find any real criticism.

First off, this game doesnt have alot of content right now, but i dont see a reason to badmouth a game that i enjoy, unless they stop working on it. I enjoyed the content so far and really hope they keep working on it. The main story and the (only) dungeon in the game were cleared in my playtime when posting this review. (about 6 hours) and 12 ingame days. You got combat, farming, transformations, relationships, crafting and you can expand the facilites of the village. But almost everything feels about 20% done. The farming was mostly irrelevant, you only get a fairly small patch of farmable land (unless i missed something), the transformations are basically only for traversing. They are pretty useless in combat (unless you cheese the last boss of the dungeon with it) Getting tools to mine and log took longer than finishing the game. The forge is currently in the process of being created. I really liked some of the events, the carp event was fun with the rhythm game, if it werent for the wonky camera that is inverted it would have been really amazing. Still, the game is in EA, it looks nice and it doesnt feel empty. The combat is a bit wonky, you got attack and dodge + transformations, but its fairly clunky. The enemy variety is very barebones, About 7 enemy types + 1 variant and 2 bossfights. Although i like that they want to add customization, this game needs content and variety. I probably missed a few things, but there is barely any explanation as to how to do anything. I dont need a tutorial for everything, but icons highlighting the seed-shop, explaining how and when you will be able to craft the weapons and tools you unlock the recipes for when collecting the ressources would be nice. This game could be one of my favourites if they keep updating it.

So far the game is really nice, I am having some issues with frame rate dropping but otherwise, it's a pretty solid game already despite it being in early access. The developers seem amazing as well as they're consistently allowing player input and working on suggestions that're being made (even changing current characters after player feedback.) Really excited to see how this game progresses!! :)

For the current state of the game, I do not recommend this game. The concept is super cool, but the execution is not even worth "Early Access." $25 is a joke for what is even accessible. Save your monies and check back in once this game is fully released.

This game is sooooo good!! Even in the early access phase there is so much to do. It has everything I love about gaming in it. I can't wait to see it when it is out of early access. The scenery is beautiful, it has romance, framing, mining, etc. It has a whole story line that you can follow. There's adventure and exploration, as well as combat. It's easy to get along with the villagers and their is plenty of opportunities to hang out with each one. There are also CATS and DOGS, which btw you can pet!! It is the perfect fantasy life sim. I can't stop playing it.

The premise is unique, and I am loving what I have currently played. The characters and world are very reminisce of Studio Ghibli movies. Here are my current thoughts: PROS: - Art is gorgeous - The Yokai forms create a new play style that sets it apart from other farming games - There is an actual story unfolding here - Character personalities and individual struggles are well represented in their "heart events" (don't know what else to call them), making them genuinely more interesting the more you get to know them CONS: - Limited content due to early access - Expect it to be buggy as ea players work with them to smooth the experience out - Understanding how to properly scale in the game isn't very intuitive as of right now (hoping we get tutorials for new players in the future) TIPS: - Your Yokai forms are your best choice for "tools" starting out, even for mining and lumbering - Check garbage cans in the town EVERY DAY - The online gift guides right now aren't trustworthy so be prepared to do save scum checks if you don't want to waste resources It's still in early access, so don't go in expecting a perfect experience yet. If you like giving feedback to mold an experience like I do, then it's worth the pick-up. If that just annoys you, continue to keep an eye on this one for now.

Interesting concept, generic execution. Tales of Seikyu is yet another fantasy life sim on Steam with no real hook of its own. Visually, it is indistinguishable from Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma, which isn't a good thing when one is a finished game and the other is yet another Early Access promise. You might argue that this game came out first, but alas life isn't fair, and one is, still, a finished game. The game's differential comes from its story; You and your [strike] pet [/strike] sister return to a village built by your ancestors to find out more about your fox demon heritage. Once there, you're given a bit of loredump and is quickly given both personal goals and conflicts spanning the disappearance of your lineage. It's REALLY GOOD and a breath of fresh air compared to the usual 'nondescript whitoid is isekai'd into a farm where everyone is more interesting than he/she will ever be' you'd find in these games, and the overall way it is presented (in text, at least) is rather captivating and leaves you wanting MORE. UNFORTUNATELY, that's as far as the devs ever took the concept, as everything else about the game is entirely generic and underwhelming. The concept of you being a kitsune yokai is not expanded on, neither visually nor contextually with your character's actions or personality, as you're yet another hack n' slashing clown in a world full of magical creatures. You're given underwhelming transformations without any real payoff; they're just model swaps of the enemies you fight around the world, which is rather funny because your sister actually gets a fox themed slime, while you're stuck with the basic enemy model. Furthermore, NPCs don't react to them in any way, so the whole mechanic is, so far, entirely disconnected from the social part of the game. The slime is probably the most interesting one, and that speaks volumes about their current state. Combat is also very generic, with very floaty 'click to awesome' animations. You'd expect a fox yokai to be a bit more creative, using the transformations you're given, but alas it's yet another farming game with a 'whyyy' combat system. It is actually quite funny how the first boss you meet, seemingly uses the transformation power (that runs in your clan's heritage) better than you, while you're stuck whacking at everything (and that very same boss) with generic fantasy weapons. The game's elusive 'fox transformation' is dangled in front of you like a carrot in front of a donkey, so you'd expect something seemingly so important to your character's story to actually be included instead of a BOAR (haha funny switcheroo, get it?). I assume this will be yet another Divinity 2 situation, where by the time you finally get the [strike] dragon [/strike] fox transformation, the game is already over and you have no use for it. Sure, you might say 'BUT THIS IS EARLY ACCESS!!!11', but even in Early Access, you can generally get a good idea of where a project is headed and the direction the devs want to take the game. Unfortunately, the 'Rune Factory at home' direction isn't exactly something I'm personally interested in, with Guardians of Azuma already out and RF6 looming around the corner.

Updating my review after a dev reached out to clear up some misinformation that's been going around about the game using ai generated assets. I'm really relieved the studio isn't relying on them and found a blog post from the studio about their creation process to dispel the accusations going around. Some of which were pretty convincing, but I feel much better about supporting the game after seeing their process and the dev's response. I'm a human artist who's been pretty rattled by certain ai images and videos going around lately. Here's another video of their process that I was able to find on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdwwU3VJ-tw&list=PLzCkO3IjSmQVG5czvwDNoWcSUHGtJtxvX&index=2 I will say that it's still pretty early in development and only recommend buying at full price if you want to support the devs, which I have no problem with. I would love to see some general time frames for updates on the roadmap as well. Fields of Mistria has a really good flow between the timing of their announcements, which features they're going to work on implementing next and when they release major updates. TLDR: I believe the dev about not using AI assets for this game. I really like the concepts, story and art so far, so I'm really glad they're supporting human creativity and am happy to do the same. Thank you devs for the kind response clearing things up. I'm sorry for not realizing what was happening before I posted my initial review.
