As a long time fan of RTK since the late 80s, this game is great to have the remake of the great graphics, animation and BGM. The only disadvantage is, only Japanese audio. Hope that the future upgrade will able to have more audios available. I personally wish that Koei able to do the Remake of RTKX too.

==================== Rugpulled under half year ==================== -Unbalanced damage calculation, your unit scales with your troops count, if you have 2000 soldiers per unit, you will have low Attack and low Defense -Repetitive off battle scene -Siege scene is gutted compare to the originally ROTK8 -China is supposed to have special tribal units across different province of the world, but it does not -No special weather, no food supply constraint, no strat -Battlefield all have these watch towers to artificially make attacking harder, to slow down your pace, so you don't finish the game too early, because the A.I. is dumb -Each officer/unit on the battlefield can use their ability once only, it means officer that are dumb/weak historically with no skill, they are screwed for eternity. Also, you can't use any ability if you have low morale for some reason, which is not fun I get tired of brainstorming to point out the flaw of this game, because it will take more time than the developers put into "Remake" this game.

I never played the original. In fact I only remember seeing an SNES cartridge of ROTK IV on sale way back in 95 I think, and that was the extent of my knowledge of any ROTK games. This is my first time actually putting some hours into ROTK, and so far I am enjoying the officer gameplay. Specially coming from the Paradox strategy games I feared this one wouldn't be detailed enough, however I learned that it's a whole different type of game, perhaps it even complements some stuff that Paradox doesn't do quite right. Battles seem good, not too deep but fun enough, voice acting is nice, Lu Bu projecting that Kiryu vibe was a nice touch. Animations aren't that bad as I thought they would be, at least it's not uncanny. I also found helpful that the tutorial is simple yet touched on solid bases that allowed me to continue playing and understanding the objectives and where to go. On the downside, it seems for some reason the UI scales poorly on 1440p and 4k resolutions, letters become slightly pixelated which seems to me like a miss on the devs part as this game is too recent, can't believe for a moment they thought 1080p is the max resolution everyone was going to use. Coming late to the party, to me this has been a good entry point into the franchise, I can see what it offers and most likely will invest time into other entries.

Honestly this is not a good game at all. I'm a pretty die-hard Romance of the Three Kingdoms fan and I'm happy to play this game if it resembled Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 and capitalized off of its game features. But I haven't picked up this game in months and I've resolved to play previous games of the series. The game just isn't good. Straight up. The event system is clunky and requires you to activate them on your own when it should work autonomously regardless of your own actions. The gap between ordinary officers and gifted officers is much more huge in this game, which robs you of that natural progression that you had where you could take an ordinary officer in ROT3K 8 and train them up to where they were on par with Guan Yu. Some officers are just blatantly overpowered. And it is much harder to acquire good weapons for no reason at all whereas in the previous game it wasn't uncommon to visit multiple cities and find a variation of items giving your officer increased stats or special skills. Also, you get more experience doing practice duels with other officers and relation with them then you ever do training alone while practice duels cost 20 action points as opposed to 30 training alone. Therefore, why should you ever do training alone? Make it make sense! It should be easier to get cute wives in this game. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13/14 understood this and threw beautiful women at you when you had good relations with officers. They would introduce you to their family and you could choose to marry them if you wished. In this game they force you into questlines for women and if you don't have high stats and pass their questline, they leave and are locked out of your game forever. It's so fucking bad. Why do I want a dating system in Romance of the Three Kingdoms that resembles real life? What the hell is going on here? How do you screw up Romance in Romance of the Three Kingdoms? I could go on forever. But yeah just play one of Koei's prior games. This ain't it.
