honestly the best vr game ive played in a really long time. I was obsessed with this game for weeks. that being said the ending was disappointing and overall a downer.

I haven't gotten that far into the game yet but so far I have yet to experience a single microstutter while playing. That already puts it head and shoulders above almost every other VR game I have played. I have a pretty beefy PC that blows most games' recommended specs out of the water, but somehow I can't avoid the stutters when I play most VR games. The combat is fairly fun, since it has physics but isn't completely obsessed with them like some VR games tend to be, allowing for the combat to still be fun and arcadey without the typical bugs that come with physics-based gameplay (mostly clipping through enemies when you attack and such), and the overall vibe of the game is also quite enjoyable.

Arken Age is an instant classic. This is what every VR game should strive to be. Great visuals, fun/satisfying gameplay physics, depth, good story and really polished! Definitely pick this one up!

Played it for an hour and can already confidently state that this game is minimum top 3 VR games of all time. It's insanely polished. Looks as good as Alyx and maybe better and runs at 30 flat latency through virtual desktop even with maxed graphic settings and I have an RTX 3070 ti. No stuttering. Beautiful game with very tight controls and so far a very engaging story. The mechanics I'm already being introduced to are awesome. Flicking my hands to get these wood climbing hooks in a split second is just great game design.

Wayyyy better than I imagined. By the trailer, I was expecting nothing but a melee combat game with good graphics. This game is way beyond a simple melee game. The exploration, puzzle solving, combat and amazing environments will take you from "I'll fire this up and check it out" for the first time will turn into "holy shit, how did I spend this much time already". Highly recommend.

It's nice to see a title that just works and is enjoyable to play in VR. Of course, it's not perfect (nothing is), but it functions well, which is something we can't say about many titles nowadays. I bought this game with low expectations and ended up really liking it. I would like to see improvements in the physical combat—removing the slow-motion effect (or adjusting it) and making the melee feel a bit more realistic, especially since melee is so common in this game.

I MUST first say 2 things, before everything: THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE (almost). and, I played on Heroic Difficulty, so this is all from the hardest difficulty's perspective. THERE ARE NO IMPORTANT SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW Also, I streamed this entire game on my Kick and Youtube channels. feel free to follow me on either platform. I'll be giving my overall score now, and then going into the details afterwards. OVERALL SCORE: 9.25/10 Yes, I really did love this game. the only way it could have been better was if the story itself had a bit more interaction with the game. Visuals: 9.5/10 This game has some of the cleanest and most stunning visuals I've seen in a VR game to date. The life of the world can be genuinely felt throughout the game, and the designs of nature, weapons, enemies, and everything in between are just PHENOMENAL. I fell in love with the game so quickly, that the tutorial took an extra 40 minutes longer than it should have due to me being mesmerized with the world around me. My one complaint would be due to the fact that most of the map has an intense focus on the color green, and since one of the things you need to collect throughout the game is a green thing, it makes it insanely difficult to find them. Combat: 10/10 The combat in this game is perfection itself for this time-frame in VR gaming. When I first started the tutorial, I struggled against the most basic mobs in the game. Regular Hyperion soldiers were killing me left, right, and center. I'm not saying that this will happen to everyone, I knew I just sucked. Regardless, as the game progresses, the combat functions slowly become routine, and eventually, you get much more comfortable fighting. By the time i finished the game, i could easily fight 4-5 regular soldiers at once and not be worried about dying. There are 3 main boss battles in this game, the first being a massive leap in difficulty compared to any mobs beforehand. its a massive learning curve, but one that really makes you grow. By the second boss battle, you are given proof of your growth, with the fact that the boss is nearly identical to the first, and it's so much easier than you expect it to be. (My first boss kill took 4 tries, the actual kill took 8 minutes 47 seconds. The second boss kill took 1 try, only 3 minutes 21 seconds.) The feeling of gratification and comfort-ability you achieve through your own growth makes any potential disappointment impossible. The final boss fight is way beyond anything else in the game, and it truly makes you prove yourself by combining everything you've learnt until this point and maximizing your ability to respond to different situations. I don't want to spoil this fight so I'll end this bit here. (the fight itself is long, 15+ minutes, but it's the single greatest thing I've ever done in VR.) Beyond the combat functions and bosses, there are 3 different main weapon types. melee, "pistol", and "shotgun". All 3 have different variations you can collect throughout the game, and each have their own respective functions. It is very well designed, and you'll find yourself using all of them quite a lot. (My personal favorite for most combat in the game is melee, but it isn't always viable. Plotline: 8/10 As far as plotline goes, I can't say much due to spoilers, but its a solid story overall. I do wish there was a bit more communication in various was throughout the game, to intensify the immersion, but they did a very good job building the world for the player. (Arken Age 2 when? @VitruviusVR) Soundtrack: 10/10 The soundtrack throughout the game somehow intensifies the feeling of wonder and excitement you feel when first starting. at some points, its peaceful and soothing, at others it feels mystical and fantasizing, and when starting combat, it really adds to the adrenaline pumping through your veins, making you feel like the sword slicing down at you will really take your life if you're not careful. Every bit of music does it's part so well, you can't help but enjoy it. And then there are the voice actors. There aren't many of them, due to there being not many characters to voice, but each one adds it's own unique flavour to the game and their characters in just the right way. It doesn't feel wrong, it doesn't feel overboard. It has somehow touched upon the line of perfection and basically stayed there for the entire game. Final thoughts: All in all, it's a game with lots to enjoy, many items to use, side quests to complete, details to discover, awesome combat and just a great game. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. I bought the game at 40% off as a compulsive buy, knowing literally nothing beyond what's shown on the steam store page. This was the single best decision I've made compulsively in the last few years. This game is truly worth every bit of praise I've heaped upon it, and if I had to buy it again at full price, I 1000% would.

Edit: (This game is amazing! The more I play the more I love this game! The levels are very confusing at times, but I eventually find out to where I need to go. To the developers, you have created a wonderful game where I get lost in your VR game for hours. The game play is absolutely amazing!) This game surprised me. it's very addictive and well made. I don't normally write reviews, but this game has just the right amount of balance with enemies AI and level design. The movement in VR is very well done. Got this on sale and it's worth every dollar. I played for 3hrs straight before I knew it. Grab Arken Age while it's 40% off. Performance is smooth and no game issues.

9/10 VR Game. Excellent all-time VR experience that I can see why is on a ton of people's 2025 VR Game of the Year shortlist. About 12-14 HRS of action adventure FPS/melee hybrid game play, The Devs managed to fix every complaint I had with the game from initial launch within 2 months with steady patches directly targeting and addressing player feedback. Extremely well polished and well performing game from such a small development team. Played with an RTX 3090ti on PSVR2 via PC adapter, and had literally no issues. Note: the game has a lot of turning, so a cable management system, snap turning, cable guardian warnings, or a wireless headset maybe more conducive to game play. This did not really bother me. I have an overhead pulley system, and had to take my headset every 45 minutes or so and spend 10 seconds unwinding the turns in my cable. The game is essentially a medieval Arthurian knight inspired tale, set on an alien sci-fi world. Story is decent and engaging, but not world changing. Story is told mostly through environmental storytelling, with minimal long-winded cinematic or scripted event included to drag on the game's fluidity/runtime. Nugs to collect in the world unlock more of the world's history/story, in addition to weapon modifications that can drastically change your play-style. The art design of mixing fantasy medieval with cyberpunk is very well done. The game looks, and runs very well. Progression through the game is fairly linear. However, each level/area has good variety of layout design, with verticality, multiple paths of travel, shortcuts to unlock, swimming sections, and hidden nugs to find. The areas are a decent size, crafted in a way to be engaging combat scenarios with the enemies, encourage interesting exploration, and get you right to the action quickly. Your character model is fully rigged, which allows for some interesting positioning during melee and gun-play. In addition, you are able to "flick out" ice picks from your wrists, which can be used to climb trees and terrain. This feature is way more awesome than it sounds, and is one of my favorite aspects of the game, as it makes exploration and movement really fun in the game, and makes my wife laugh every time I am doing it with the headset on. The combat is fun, consisting of solid FPS gun-play with a pretty clever modification system that lets you change out and customize your pistol, rifle, and sword with different effects ranging anywhere from creating a saw-blade launcher to a plasma cannon, to the needler from Halo. Standard pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper options are available as well. The Dev did a really good job of balancing the damage and characteristics of all the melee and gun options in the game. Nothing feels bad to use, and all have their unique aspects that make them fun to swap out and play with. Enemies are fully rigged as well, and makes melee combat really fun in this game. However, the enemies can be a little "floaty" and goofy with melee, like 80's movie rag dolls. I think this adds to the fun and charm of the game. Many parts of the enemies can be dismembered and collected for scrap to build more items in the game. The animation for beheading with the saw-blade launcher is pretty hilarious. Enemy AI is pretty decent, where they will flank, bum rush, get into position to snipe, take cover. I do think that once your figure out their patterns, that they become a little less surprising and engaging, and a little more enemy variety would be a big plus for the game. Backpedaling in the game often leads to enemies either bum rushing you or running to the next predictable cover to snap to. This allows for you to predictably set them up into a kill-box. You start doing this instinctively, which hurts the experience. There is no "clever girl" moment where you have backpedaled to setup a kill-box and suddenly are flanked from the side or from behind. The AI will use grenades to flush you out from cover, but the fuses are way too long, and they often do it at the same time they are running straight towards you.... which means you are shooting them in the face as you flee the grenade, or more hilariously you run past them, turn around to melee them and watch them die from their own grenade. I really enjoy the melee combat in this game. Throwing grenades back at the enemies is super fun. The devs kind of cheat grenade throwing, where if you are in the general vicinity, the grenades will turn into a homing beacon towards the enemy. This is a nice compromise, compared to how frustrating throwing can be in most VR games. I never really found a reason to use mines. The game's boss fights suffer the same issue most FPS games boss fights do, where it is hard to make them interesting in a shooter. However, the final boss of the game is appropriately epic, and one of the better boss encounters I have ever played in a first person shooter. The last boss fight in this game really elegantly ties together all of the elements of the game seamlessly. It is a crime that only ~10% of players have/will experience the end boss fight. I know that fight took an incredible amount of resources time and effort to put together, but they really need a similar experience before the 2 HR mark in the game (before return window), and at the midpoint of the game to hype folks up to keep going. I am very much looking forward to what this Studio does next.
