Combat is just awful. Even trying to face your opponent is unintuitive, and given there are NPC encounters from the start that will kill you in a few hits, being able to control your character is important. Not going to play this again until it's fixed.

I'm having fun with the game, but there are some small things that really kick me in the butt. There's quite a bit of stuttering, the combat could use some improvement, and there’s just not enough iron in the woods. That said, the graphics are really nice, and I’m enjoying the RPG elements! I’ll update this review after I play more.

I paid full price for it, so I got the right to dislike it Reasons 1) Poor combat... Like really poor... Here is your sword... Here is your bow... That's all, enjoy the game... Yeah... 2) Weird communication with NPC... Just push every possible option, and then repeat right ones... And repeat... 3) Painful start of your household... Run around, gather materials, but remember, you (and we got to reason №4) 4) Limited inventory... You can carry few types of something... Like 8 resources... 8 food... And e.t.c... And if you crafting new food from the food in your inventory, it wouldn't work... You need to drop something first to free the spots, and just then crat Great graphics, great music, great concept... But whoever planed the game process just f***ed it up... Game gives more pain, than pleasure

How dare people write bad reviews about this piece of art. 20 hours in and having a blast. You engage this game slowly. You build up, get stronger and expand your territory. Think before you act and come prepared. Spamming left click will not get you anywhere. People hating on difficulty and ''clunky combat'' are just suffering skill issue. This game is straight forward and defenitly very challenging during first hours. Try to variate in combos using dodge and roll. Certain combos will be more efficient to certain types of enemies. If you hit the bed in frustration, then this isn't your game. It's supposed to be a sitback, relax and be adventurous kinda game. No need to try to put it in the dumpster with bad reviews, just because you suck at it.

I was expecting I won't like the game as it's not really my type but it's soo enjoyable! Really love the style, the mechanics, the amount of ways to play the game - it's real, you can pick who you wanna be. Am a bit struggling with the controller because it's not working at it's best yet but overall experience is pleasant. And it's fantastic that a two-person team made it and, moreover, it's actively developping and polishing the game. Hint: if you didn't like something in the game, wait and give it a try later: maybe your problem's fixed :)

I spent around 2-3 hours with Mirthwood, but I struggled to find enjoyment due to a mix of frustrating mechanics and design choices. The quest system is unclear, often leaving me wondering what I’m supposed to do next. The lack of proper guidance makes progression feel like guesswork rather than an engaging adventure. On top of that, the map is poorly designed—it doesn't clearly indicate where I am or where I should go, and the limited zoom in/out makes navigation even more frustrating. Another major issue is the relentless hunger mechanic. The character gets hungry way too fast, forcing you to constantly carry food. Instead of adding to the immersion, it becomes an unnecessary chore that disrupts the flow of the game. Lastly, the overall atmosphere is too bleak and depressing. While I appreciate darker tones in games, Mirthwood lacks balance, making it more of a dull and dreary experience than an engaging one. With better quest guidance, a more useful map, and a less punishing survival system, this game could be enjoyable. But in its current state, it’s more frustrating than fun.
General opinion
The Game is a bit rough around the edges, very atmospheric, seasons are beautifull, gemplay mechanics a bit clunky and can anoy at times, but will recomend, the game has what you would call "love put into it", still jar needs more filling to be complete ^^

Game Performance and Economy/Progression

Performance
Mirthwood can run on lower frames quite often, the "Home plot" after 3 seasons can be tanky after you build up your plot. Beside that exploration does not suffer from performance issues beside occasional stutter while autosaving.

Economy/Progression
Economy, game is quite rough on the aspect of hunger managment at the start, you need ton of food to keep going, its not that hard after you start hunting and harvesting your crops but beggining is quite rough, mid game when you want to expand your plots invest into farming animals start as a hard punch in the guts, farm animals are expensive, same as buildings requierd if you want to make it fancy. Overall seems a bit overpriced for what you get, but it does look nice

What i would like to see changed/implemented
Game has good crafting system that can seek materials in chests nearby, (by nearby i mean like 5-6 feet distance) Would be nice if system worked on a bigger scale for example chaining storage "connections" so that you could make more aesthetically pleasing crafting areas. Good idea would also be showing either lines connecting crafting stations when placing storage or showing area of influence while placing the chests potentialy highlithing crafting stations that will feed from the storage. One thing that bothered me is toiling the soil, what i did not like it is that the whole process is finnicky, example after season change your plants that have miltiple harvests (peas/grapes/corn) do die in diffrent intervals, what happens is that dead bush stays if you do not cut it in time the toiled soil underneath disapears forcing you to either cut dead bush when it apears (for example 3 plots died in 12 plot field) and quickly plant another thing so that you wont need to toil the soil again, if you let it stay to long you may find yourself in place that i was, somehow you wont be able to toil it again in the same spot forcing you to change plot configuration again, i do endjoy snug fit and cosy clutered aesthetic so yea xD had to fight it alot because of it :) Last thing: the fishing quest at the coastline, for the last part "catch a lobster" i thing wise idea would be to change the quest test to "catch a lobster using a wooden basket" since mechanic was changed :) i fished out like 12 pearls after i found out you cannot catch it with a fishing pole xD

The game is still very much in active development and being worked on by a tiny independent team; which can mean that there are changes and new bugs from time to time and it's not a fully polished gaming experience. However, somehow it just scratches a certain itch for me. I love the art style and the narrator is top notch. Mirthwood's voice actress, Vicki-jo Eva, was even nominated recently for the One Voice Award for best performance in gaming for UK females and I think it's well earned. She's great, I could listen to her read the phone book. The world is a little bit gloomy and the stories are on the darker side, but I can still make my little farm and fix up my ruined farmhouse. I can still potter around the large open map and gather resources and find creepy foes, creepy places and even some creepy allies. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you really want a game that's darker than Stardew Valley, less cursed than Graveyard Keeper, and lets you spend as long as you like on a fairly low commitment adventure, then it may be yours. If you want a fully polished game, then maybe add it to your wishlist and watch it for a while longer, but for where it's at, there's still plenty to do and enjoy.

Great atmosphere and music but combat remains underwhelming and not very fun. Bow in particular still suffers as the devs have added a cross hairs but the cross hairs do not align with the curvature of the bow at all. It makes aiming needlessly frustrating and unreliable. Though the devs are continuing to try and improve combat so I may have to change this later.

art style is lovely. Shame I can't read 99 percent of the text without using the windows magnifier and thus missing most of what's going on. I'm on 120 percent ui scaling and at 1920x1080 so. shrug.
