A neat roguelike card battler, the UI is a little confusing but it's a promising twist with the Brazilian folclore theme.

It's ok but I won't be playing it again as there is no replay value, here are my thoughts :
- The game is lacking fun, there are no fun cards or items. The game could've done with something to boost mana and make it feel like im building a deck for a reason, in the end the game feels empty
- It's impossible to build a strategy, the only one is a basic push or pull to front/back line type thing, there are simply not enough cards or combinations and no ability to remove cards or feel like you are building a deck with purpose
- The transitions are slightly too slow that they are annoying, the animations in battle and the level select card flipping
- Certain things are overpowered like enemy poison and the surprise attack cards are too powerful so there are balancing issues
- The UI in battles is hidden in the corner while there is a huge top left UI for coins when coins are irrelevant to the gameplay so why use this to display coins instead of something more useful likes statuses or artifacts
- The word 'Apparition' instead of enemy was annoying
- The music is bad/annoying and I had to mute it
- The way you complete a stage then the campaign just ends and you must start again to play the next part is strange design
- Some translation problems such as using 'accumulating' instead of 'consuming' and no explanation for certain confusing features like 'multiple hits'
In general I can see the effort was put in to make a wholesome childlike game and with great art but the underlying fun and replay value was missing for me. I think emphasis was put on making this a game for younger children

Tacape is a very creative turn based roguelike deckbuilder RPG that uses a lot of Brazilian folklore in its style. And to someone like me, who played Slay the Spire since it's Early Access, it brings a lot of new concepts to the table that I don't see in many other entries of this genre.
Comparing to other games that tried to copy the StS experience, I always felt like most of them fell flat in many fronts. The same way other card games have their "pot of greeds", "The Ancient Ones" and "4 mana 7/7s", most games that copied StS did it... too well, in a bad way. Tacape avoids this by its unique 2x2 arena in which you fight the enemies.
The way the combats are set up means that some cards can’t reach some tiles, or have added effects based on position. This is enough for me to take away from the “sameness” that other games inspired by StS have. No 2 cost 8 damage 2 vuln. No 1 energy create 3 one-use attacks. No 3 cost 6 damage 6 times. It’s all original. The artifacts, however, feel very similar. Not helped by the fact that there’s quite few of them… but that’s to be expected, since the genre needs some simple items to fulfill the same goal, no matter the game.
The enemies are quite tough. And despite them being the Brazilian versions of the “headless horseman”, “the boogeyman” and such, the ones that gave me the most trouble were the first boss. The “Lady Cockroach” nursery rhyme is now a nightmare chant for me. I don’t wanna hear about it’s lies EVER again.
Another cool thing the enemies do here is moving around the battlefield. Since some attacks depends on their position, sometimes they’ll do less damage, or you can make it so by dragging/pushing them around (and be careful to not make them do more damage).
The characters play very differently. I’d say Lorena is a mix of Ironclad and Watcher (strength gain and multiple hits), while Lucas is a mix of Silent and Defect (discard synergies and tops/marbles manipulation). There’s some broken combos you can make, and believe me, you’ll need them.
The main comparison with Slay the Spire everywhere is because Tacape obviously feels inspired by it, but it’s not trying to copy it. I play StS with mods a lot, and many of them feel overly complicated (like the Packmaster interactions or VUP Shion) or made to break the game (too many to count). Tacape offers something else: a game where most of your retained knowledge of card games can help you play a similar game that has a unique twist.
The game is not perfect, by any means. I’ve had my share of issues on my end (none game breaking/crashing, and only one causing me to lose a run), and disagree with some design choices here and there (being a mobile game ported to PC brings it’s own issues, like the lack of keyboard shortcuts, or lack of UI elements present in other games like it). But this game shows that there’s more to be made with the genre than simply reskinning StS, and the ideas here are golden . Play for yourself and you’ll see that’s true. It’s a short game, in my current playtime I finished both campaigns and have only one achievement left.
Tacape 2 when?
