cute crafting / town managment game
really shows its age in gameplay, but the art is great
price is high, but its a high quality translation of a large script and a niche game, so i would say its fair.
oh and nanoca is adorable

I never thought that one of my childhood favorites, Tristia of the Deep-blue Sea, would receive a remaster and be released on Steam. This is one of the games that I played through multiple times during my childhood, and I enjoyed every single bit of it. Although I wish they could add more story, features and better dialogue voice acting sound quality in this remastered version. Nevertheless, thank you, Kogado studio for remastering one of my favorite childhood game !

On my anime/hipster journey to find an obscure relatively unknown game to brag to my friends that I've played it... I found this.
Gameplay-wise it's very dated, clunky and overall boring I'm gonna be honest. Basically you have these types of actions: go to places to view scenes and visit shops, buy/sell stuff at shops, craft and research staff in the workshop. No JRPG fights, no exploration, no city builiding. It's just research, craft, sell, buy materials, earn money, research, craft, sell - nothing more. Even more, this whole thing is not working that great. I mean for the love of God Nanoca how can you attempt crafting a pizza using food ingridients and an oven, fail at making it and require to craft a new oven to bake another pizza?! Or why the hell do you need to write a book on explosives materials, then use its content to make a dynamite, and during failure of crafting an item idk burn the book with the bad result (because book is a consumable item instead of stationary).
Characters and story are not bad, personally I endured the daunting gameplay simply because I was curious what's next thing this little war criminal called Nanoca Flanka is going to do: forgery? fraud? weapon manufacturing? bribery soliciting? sexual offense/harassment? It could be anything!
Jokes aside... I've spent 42 hours in this game, I even made a simple event guide for it because I genuinely enjoyed Tristia:Legacy. Mostly because of the vibrant-yet-typical characters and simple-yet-effective story (well, for the most part it's still a VN). This game was perfect for my break between Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4.
Another thing - the price. Dear God, I don't get it why it's so high and under what circumstances I've bought the game. Clearly not worth the full price so please buy it only with at least 50-70% discount.
Definetelly I won't recommend this game to everyone and not gonna tell you it's a masterpiece. It's a bummer that this game doesn't have a demo because that would solve the problem of buy/don't buy way better. But if you don't expect much from it and play it like a little game to get some rest from gameplay-focused or story-rich games - you may enjoy it just the like I did.
Also, please listen to the original opening song to this game on IGN youtube channel - it's a certified banger with Nene's (side character of this game) VA on vocals.

Publisher is good. Game still needs skip button though.
No matter what, it's an old and beautiful memory
Visual Novel + Simulation from 20 years ago
Tristia:legacy is the remaster of "Tristia of the Deep-Blue Sea" from the 2002, with modernized visual. It has the original gameplay, likely the original VA, the exact scene, and lengthy dialogue (with no skip button).
Played the original, and haven't finish the remaster. Will update once finished the game
The Game
You play as Nanoca being "invited" to restore a damaged and declining island town built upon a lost advanced technology, "E-Technology". What you did in game is to develop specialty for the town, go around selling the patents to shops, and trigger events/requests as the story goes.
There is little hand holding, player has the freedom to do anything within the system, and potentially fail the quests from other Characters, either the item is not delivered in time, or has yet developed the material.
The Good

It's a good remaster (after fixing some major bugs) that you get to explore the cute World and Story, with fully redrawn illustration from the original illustrator and new updated animation.

The original Sound and VA is very well done and high in quality, it still sound as good today.

The gameplay is simple and outdated, but you get the original feel, exactly as it was.

Some improvement on UI, with bigger button and picture, easier to navigate and read. It was basically text and list in the original game.

The story itself is well written. Translation is fair, not too wacky.

Support Controller that help a bit on some annoying legacy design.
The Bad

There are many inconvenient legacy design, such as a lot of clicking to buy large amount of items, no skip buttons, don't support keyboard, no event log, etc. It can become quite annoying when replaying to unlock some missed events.

Save scumming could be your savior, research and crafting is by chance that could screw your game when crafting some critical events item.

Pricy, very expensive for what you get in today's standard. Would had been highly recommended at $40 (still expensive but well...) and below if you are New to the series. But $60 is well worth for old fans like me.

Conclusion
As a fan being a bit bias, I have to recommend it.
Although it is very expensive and I would generally had waited for a discount if other company release a similar remaster...
I would still recommend it at full price as supportive gesture.
It probably won't scratch itches for VN/Sim/City Builder hardcore fan.
This was the first attempt and the system is too simple as a Sim and City Builder, where the sequel "Tristia of the Deep Blue Sky" has more in depth simulation, with each region has it's own development and what you sell affect the development. On the other hand, it is too complex for a VN that you actually can fail quests that could lead to Bad End.
However, that's what make it unique, a sim builder with RPG and VN all blend pretty well together. It is quite enjoyable to play
