Van Helsing: Thaumaturge DLC

You must be familiar with the traditional approach to monster hunting: grab a melee weapon, take a firearm (just to make sure), prepare your tricks and witness those creatures flee in terror! But there are other, somewhat unusual methods that rely on a quite different source – which is called magic.

EDIT: You're better off getting final cut than the individual games/dlcs. Adds a cool alternate class to the game, as well as some extra quests. 8.5/10

The addition adds a mage class. Lots of AoE attacks, nice relaxing playing.

without a doubt 1 of the more enjoyable diablo-like games, it has enough to stand on its own though, for it brings some things to the genre that are new to me and i find these things an improvement! having a companion that you can specialize in a way is nothing new, but sending her to town to sell your items while you continue the road you take is without a doubt a good way to keep the flow going. you can also command her to bring you items like potions if you desire so. there is also dialogue between the 2 of you that sometimes will crack a smile or make you facepalm with a smile. the game has good charm and i will without a doubt pick it up at some point to continue my quest to slay mythical creatures

The game is short. Ok that is out of the way. If you like isomwtric RPGs, you will most likley enjoy this game. The combat is pretty simplistic, but somehow still fun. If you can pick this up on sale for around $10 or less, it's worth it.

The vanilla game is a traditional tale about a conflict between old mystical nature and new inhumane progress, mostly depicting the World War I angst, and therefore, uses that period as a basis for the world. In said conflict the protagonist is (literally) an outside force, sympathizing neither of the sides. As a neutral element Van Helsing must navigate his way using only a blade and a gun, with no magic or machinery. But of course we know that with the DLC’s that changed, and although the writing stays the same, at least in spirit everyone makes a choice. While it makes great sense for “replayability”, and is kind of a good thing — most of the players play these games only once and don’t return for seconds under a different sauce. So, whilst this decision receives token good boi points from everyone, including me, it also does hurt the narrative. With this DLC you can side with the nature, mysticism and conservatism. While the Thaumaturge looks rather pretty, gameplay-wise he is pretty generic.
In A Nutshell
🟢Pros🟢 🟢New character class - magic wielding Taumaturgist. 🟢New skill tree 🟢New maps 🟢Beautifully visual spells 🟢Friendly gameplay 🟢Unavigable features 🟢New tactics and game mechanics 🟢New equipment. 🟢Relaxing 🟢Easy to play 🟢Inexpensive to buy(Especially promotions). 🟠Intermediate🟠 🟠Lack of more Nice sets 🔴Cons🔴 NOT
In-depth analysis
🎮 Gameplay Enjoyable while using spells. Similar to the sorceress from diablo 2. I had a better time playing it than Van Helsing, despite the fact that I don't usually play hack'n'slash's with sorcerers, so THAT MEANS SOMETHING. 📖 Story doesn't have. 👊 Combat system The skill tree totally was changed to be under the wizard. a wile more to my liking, it's simpler and I specifically chose what I wanted to enter. 💰 Content and prices Cheap and worth it, but on promotions even cheaper ! 🔗 Balancing and challenge perfectly balanced character.
Technical analysis
🎥 Graphics Can be, effects excellent but the character somehow looks average 🔊 Sound Nothing has changed, except the sound of excellent effects 🔩 Performance and stability unqualified. perfection 💻 Artificial intelligence not needed, well unless it's about enemies xD 🐛 Errors and problems Did not notice during my gameplay
Rating: Positive! I've already reviewed the whole game but this seriously be in the base title. This class is also missing a tab in it's talent tree.

I got these in a bundle so I didn't pay for them individually, but I dont see why these character classes should be sold as their own DLCs, they should just be part of the main game
DLC Review
Some DLC just add something so basic its almost feels like cut content made into an extra DLC. New Features/Gameplay The mage class feels for me pretty underwhelming. It doesnt offer anything interestening and its attacks fall flat especially if there are later so many mana sucking enemies making you teleport all over the place just to be able to attack properly. I think this class really only shines in the second game. Also they drop you thaumaturge items despite playing another class. Conclusion/TL;DR If there is a DLC that feels as basic as it gets its this one. A mage class without anything interestening except maybe its visuals isnt really something i would spend my money on.
