My kitten only eats the hearts of the creatures it kills, enjoys conversation about foreign policy, and devoutly attends religious ceremonies that involve lynching a heretic. For my part I spend my days farming and debating the mayor on the difference between allodial and fee simple title. Once per month I collect rent from the girl who seeks to collect some vomit from every country of the world.
And several times per week, I play Elin. It's a great game with surprising depth. It's okay to have setbacks and recover. There is a lot of randomness - I know some people don't enjoy that. There are many secrets. And there are some things that may not make sense at first, like being able to substitute powder for liquid in some recipes. But if these things aren't a turn off, join the rest of us and enjoy this special experience. Worth every penny.

I love the music in this game from what I've heard so far,
haven't played much of this game, new to the genre as a whole so it's very refreshing in terms of what I have in my steam library at this point.
Character creation was also fun.

Well, I'm not sold on this.
Sure, it has content. But is it good content?
Doubling your stats is a terrible progression system. It barely worked in Kenshi and the grind is significantly less in Kenshi. The Kenshi world is also so much more alive and interesting. 80hrs in Kenshi, you feel like a god. 80 hours in Elin and you're just starting to get strong.
I rather enjoyed the beginning of the game but now i'm clearing level 30 Nefia, and it just feels empty. Sure, I could pay of the debt but the base building is just too bland and missing half of the features currently.
Elin has a lot of charm and interesting things, but the insurmountable grind is just too much, and the game isnt even finished. Once its finished I imagine a run taking 300+ hours of watching movies/youtube while nothing really happens in the game.

Still early access, but right now this game is setting the tone of "You want to do that? Go ahead." Absolutely addicting, scratches all kinds of different itches and has a pretty brutal difficulty as a standard.
The only negative I can even give the game is that you are railroaded into making a house and having to pay your government extortion fees every month. But once you get past that beginning, you're free to do pretty much whatever (just remember to stop by your house to go pay the tax bill)
Currently a 8.5/10 for me. 20 USD is a phenomenal price for this game. If you're on the fence, give the demo a shot.

I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I have made weapons made of raw meat through sculptures. I have made food purely out of microplastics. I have made wine out of fish. This game is amazing and highly confusing.

Elin magically makes 5 hours disappear in what feels like 30 mins. It's a ridiculously addictive mix up of roguelikes: Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, RimWorld, Conquest of Elysium, Don't Starve, The Doors of Trithius and Dungeonmans (I'll stop there) sprang to mind. 16+ hours in on my first play-through and I really don't know what is happening but the in-game help is useful. There is a crazy amount of stuff here. Loads of items to craft or to collect from the myriad of vanquished bad guys and much to explore in the randomized dungeons and individual map areas. Winter is coming and not sure if I'm going to survive it.

In a genre which feels saturated, Elin is one of the only games which offers things that keep the formula fresh. As for one example, the furniture ticket system allows you to take anything from towns (it respawns later) without it being a crime. Like the aesthetic of a town? Literally take it and put it in your town. You can even take the waterfall from a town and build it in yours.
There's loads of other systems done well, tons of QoL, but the furniture system is something I've never seen in any other game, and it's incredibly well implemented here. Plus, there's tons of amazing items to decorate with to your hearts content.
I've spend most my playtime trying to design a japanese hotspring town.

This game really captured a special feeling of exploring, grinding, character building that I felt when I first played Runescape back in the day. Definitely one of the best games I played. It's truly an open world sandbox. Highly recommend. With that said, a few criticisms.
- There's definitely a steep learning curve and certain things require save scumming or a lot of patience to unlock (e.g. to get recipes or to get stuff you want to appear at a vendor). I wish there was a way to "target farm" stuff.
- Toward the very end game you're incentivized to play with a party but I don't really like managing multiple characters. You can always double your stats and play solo, though.
- The mechanic of fire and ice spells destroying items in your inventory unless you carry consumable fireproof/iceproof blankets or get fire/ice resistance high enough felt not fun.
- There is a big base building element which I didn't think I'd like but I came to enjoy it. However, this may be a turn off for some people. I think it ended up being fun, though.

This is a horrible game if you want to have a life. There is just so much you can do and see that after 200 hours I am still discovering new things.
This game has a steep learning curve, so expect to die a lot early on. It is a grind fest and the 30-40 crafting stations can be intimidating at first, but the amount of things you can do and complexity of the base building/crafting is where this game really shines.

Only one other game has managed to pull me in like Elin, and that is Kenshi.
The other comparison that comes to mind are Trash Isekais. While it is unfair to Elin to compare it to trash Isekais, it does quench the thirst to consume more of them.
Nearing the 200 hour mark, granted I do leave the game running while I go pretend to be a functioning adult of society.
