Rabbit & Steel deliver exactly what it says it does. It gives the feeling of MMORPG raiding, but requires no grind and each run lasts at most an hour. It's a peak coop game in which you can kill your friends and then blame them for it. Additonaly, it's one of the hardest game's I've played. With 3 players there is so much stuff happening on screen and so many mechanics at once that you are bound to get overloaded.

Very fun game, definitely one that is more fun with friends. Loving the whole dynamic of RPG mechanics mixed in with bullet hell, roguelike gameplay, works very well.

I've always loved the feeling of getting better and better at boss mechanics and patterns, and this game uses that to the fullest by combining the MMO-like experience of boss patterns being reliant on co-op play and communication while streamlining it in a roguelike game so that the gameplay comes first- no grind required. If you are lucky enough to get some friends to try the game, it is an absolute blast. If you are the friend who got recommended this and feel hesitant for any reason- please give it a chance!

It's ok. Not really a roguelike outside of picking random items. More based on memorization than reaction speed. You can get the occasional broken build, but it's rare. Multiplayer just makes me feel bad for damaging other people, and if you get knocked out on higher difficulty it can make things unnecessarily difficult for other players. I would give this a mixed if I could.

TL;DR the game is a good entry point to bullet hells that meshes well with the rougelike structure, but struggles with encouraging you to challenge yourself and can be hard to play with others if they're random players due to mechanics in the game
since im a big touhou fan and got recommended this game (i believe it was some time after its release) i imagined that at some point i'd be playing it and no big surprise: i enjoy it a lot. it feels well crafted where i feel like when i mess up there were almost no external factors to it, and the rougelike structure ends up joining with the bullet hell gameplay seamlessly to me. the difficulty of the patterns feels just right, and remains constantly enjoyable throughout an entire play session spanning multiple runs with all 10 different rabbits.
the workshop support i have found to be the biggest factor to me constantly replaying the game, whether its simply making illie the emerald dragon (<3) a spellsword palette or adding entire groups of item sets, you can find a lot of things you'll enjoy on the workshop. i would really recommend the inside joke item sets if you're here to fuck around, and the transfigured item sets if you're for more balanced gameplay.
to me, the biggest shortcoming of the game is encouragement to play on higher difficulties. outside of new color palettes for beating a run with a rabbit on hard or lunar, obtaining some trinkets, and a steam achievement for collecting all of them, they can often feel harsh to the point of discouragement and can be hard to learn for people who enjoy normal a lot. im trying my best to play hard difficulty more, but i often can't do that well without sticking to something i know really badly and i've found that to dampen my experience with the game which ends up with me going back to normal trying to have fun with whatever rabbit. it's probably a personal thing but it's just how i feel.
co-op is also a little bit of a mess, mods DO NOT carry over nor get temp downloaded for other players if you start a lobby with them, which was a bit of a disappointment to me but also people with the mods can potentially negatively affect those without them, whether an item can damage allies or players simply dont know what they're picking up, it can very much ruin what would otherwise be fun lobbies. the only remedy to this is for all players to have the installed mods which is often too big of an ask with random players. there's also the fact that certain mechanics can be impossible to communicate how one will react to it such as emerald lakeside's color coordination or the tether mechanic, making it somewhat unfun at times if you don't have a friend group to play with.
the last main (and positive) thing i wanna talk about is the character designs and the art. i really can't describe how much i adore the look of the game and how that factors in to the characters looks, i love ALL the dragons so much it's unbearable, and i just wanna squish matti so much ohh my god she's so adorable doing her best as the paladin i wish there's was more matti content online. illie and meg need more yuri too please guys get on that. and @ me wherever it is, i'm always @Shawrakii please guys i need this in my veins. please just more of the dragons in general like get pi and kuu on that sesbian lex you feel me. full detail, no punches being pulled i want the big dragon lesbian experience to be realized. can you believe im a shark person. and the frogs THE FROGS they have so much personality to them even when they're so itty bitty chibi i love how blush looks and how you can tell her whole deal just based off of it. incredible stuff.
regardless of any of my thoughts, even before the dlc, this game has proven to be something outstanding. my enjoyment of the game has remained steady over the time i've had it which is a good sign of longevity that not many games tend to see. if you're interested in bullet hells, or already love them and want to have something that will likely remain constantly enjoyable, this is the perfect game for you. maybe the other game, maiden and spell, may also be for you! not for me, but that's okay.
(and if anyone who helped make this game sees this, i NEED a matti plush. squish her to no ends with my own real life hands.)

"Oh wow look, its a charming game with banger music, this will surly be a nice chill game to play with some friends :Clueless:"
This game is fucking HARD (at least for me) and I love it. Learning the attack patterns, acting on the fly, and weaving between attacks is so satisfying. Beating bosses in this game makes you feel like the best player in the entire world for a whopping 2 seconds, because you then proceed to try out lunar difficulty and find out, you aint shit. This game is fun solo, and great with friends. Would recommend.

Stunningly unique, Rabbit and Steel offers an exceptional coop experience.
Where the game shines is its combat: learning the encounters and communicating with your teammates is so much fun. There's always something new to learn, always a battle to clutch, and always a teammate to yell at for killing you. The fights are designed to make you step on your teammates toes and really makes playing the game a team experience in a way that I don't think I've ever felt before.
The bottom line: This game is well worth a purchase and is thoroughly enjoyable with 2-4 players (I haven't tried playing solo).
Some other notes that hopefully convince you:
- The game works with mixed couch-coop and online play.
- There is between-run progression, but it only gives you more options and doesn't make you stronger at the baseline. This means you get the benefits of feeling like you're unlocking new stuff, but also the game allows for drop-in-drop-out play where the between-run progression is shared for all players. Best of both worlds!
- Oh and the battles are totally different if you're playing with different numbers of players, so even if you've gotten really good at 2-player mode, you'll have more to enjoy with more friends or on your own.
- The difficulty modes flow through the entire gamut from doable for children, to brutally challenging for experienced gamers. I do recommend kicking up the challenge when you're ready for it because this game makes the bashing-your-head-against-the-wall portion of the game extremely fun. You're always mastering a particular mechanic, or discovering a new build.
- I would argue the different classes appear similar but have unique synergies that lend very different gameplay styles. This will give you even more reasons to experiment and replay with your friends (regardless of skill level)
- The music is good and the whole game has this interestingly calm vibe despite being a tense gameplay experience. I originally thought that the sound effect design was lacking, but the more I played, the more I appreciated the vibe and the subtle sound design.
- There's a master volume slider, so you know the game is good
- equally playable on controller, and mouse+keyboard.
Rabbit and Steel
The game is overall pretty cool, but not enough for me to actually like it. It's hard to say exactly why, but the dopamine just didn’t hit in the right amounts, and I quickly stopped enjoying what was happening.
Conceptually, it's a pretty cool game, and with fully functional co-op, we jumped in as a group of four (since it supports up to four players), and at first, it was quite fun.
However, after a while, some issues became apparent - there aren’t many classes, the game design isn’t the best (during boss fights, which are essentially a boss rush, it’s often hard to tell what’s happening on screen), and difficulty affects not just enemy damage/health but also their moveset, which is actually a plus. That said, despite the game offering a challenge, I didn’t really feel any satisfaction after winning, unlike how it usually works in similar grind-heavy games.
In the end, I don’t consider it a bad game, but for certain reasons, I just couldn’t get into it.
