I think I have finally found a game that captures the grinding combat that was characteristic of the fighting on Okinawa. I really like the feel, but that does not mean the game is without problems. First, the rules/manual are thin to nonexistent -- the rules website has little specific information on the Okinawa game. Second, the designer is under the delusion that there were Japanese partisans on Okinawa; well into the battle you will find Japanese Boetai and others materializing in the rear areas; I have never heard that such a thing occurred during the battle. Third, I cannot find where to find victory conditions anywhere. So you can imagine my surprise when I lost the game although I had outscored the Japanese computer opponent 97 - 50 (Japanese minor victory)! Finally, the interface is need of a rework. You can zoom-in the map, the aircraft and fleet holding boxes are then not visible. Dragging aircraft / ships to the target area becomes cumbersome. That said. I like the game a lot.

Pretty easy tp play mechanically although UI is a tad clunky. Would be nice to see where attacks are taking place without having to click in and out of windows. Brush up on unit insignia at the division level or you may never know what divisions you're using. Cheap enough on sale to give the game a try.

I like this game. It's not my usual fare, as I usually find the Pacific Theater overdone, but SGS/Avalon made this one pretty fun. Marshaling resources and keeping to a timetable can be a challenge for me. In this game it is vital to any kind of success. Would recommend You betcha.
