Played demo for 1.5 hours and bought the game immediately. Good game overall, best turn based rogue-lite game I played this year.

So, a while ago I got a comment on my profile requesting that I have a look at this game. Definitely one of the stranger inquiries I've gotten - I guess because I leave a decent volume of reviews on niche translated and untranslated chinese games? Regardless - I'm getting around to it now, and thankfully, this one is translated and that means I don't need to get out my auto translation hook software!
As with most chinese to english translated games, it's got The Font - looks fine, sometimes it doesnt fit buttons properly, but hey, if you've played chinese translated games before, you're used to seeing this. Translation is a little rough here and there - it's pretty obviously machine translated with limited quality check, and it's a little difficult to understand here and there, but it's workable. There are for sure worse translated games out there. Visuals by and large apart from that are fine. Character designs are nice enough, everythings legible and understandable. It's for sure got that budget indie title look, but hey, it's 6 quid - are you really gonna begrudge it?
The important part is the gameplay - which is fun enough? It's a battle chess style game, tactics rpg, whatever - you have between 1 and 3 characters, which grow and level up and upgrade over the course of your run. There's 3 archetypes and 3 classes in each, which can advance into a class upgrade. They've got different attack ranges, perks and characteristics, and each have one ability (and I think the class upgrade ability when you get it.) A little simple, a little slow - most of the variance seems to come sigils which apply various passive bonuses to your characters. It is a bit simple, and a bit slow, but it's fun enough. Health preserves value between fights, so it can be a difficult balancing act even with the relative simplicity of the skill setup, and it strikes a relatively difficult balance.
Sound effects and music however, quite bad. Music turned off immediately and the sounds are... well, not great.
I don't know whether I'd go back to play it all that much, but for the price it's pretty alright if you're into the type of game.

This game is decent, I really cant go too far into detail, but it's essentially a FIre Emblem Roguelite, the artstyle is passable, the gameplay is passable, this is a passable game, but let me get into something a bit more concerning.
It seems like the dev is DESPERATE for people to play their game, I'm not really sure what's happening there but they literally left a message on my profile to play and review their game, which is sketch but this all seems legit from the digging I've done which makes it all the more interesting to me. Buy the game if for anything, to save Big TIger's life, someone over at the CCP has a gun to their head based on the commendable lengths this dev has gone through for even a scrap of dosh.
If you ever get to try making a game again, you've really got to be careful with how your game pops, as and independent start with an art direction, make it simple yet catchy, look to switch ports for good examples of this artsyle, once you learn to spot it, it's everywhere. Secondly, the initial pacing is how you reel in the fish that you hook, make it fast, make it fun, really milk the dopamine with flashy kills or something along the lines of that, it is possible to do with this a story but if you're going down that route you've gotta be a dedicated writer which is a bit much.
Good luck, my friends!

While I did enjoy playing this game, it's way too simple to maintain any attention from players
To put it bluntly, this game is a roguelite fire emblem, with run progression basically being straight out of slay the spire. There are also meta upgrades that either give you seemingly negligible or game changing upsides, with little in between
i have three major problems with this game:
1. Translation. I get this game wasn't made by an english team, but when I have to read a new sigil for the fifth time only for it to end up not doing what I thought it'd do, it starts getting frustrating
2. Synergies. Rather, the lack thereof. Because there are none. To be clear, there are some sigils that boost your stats, and then some sigils that give you a bonus when those stats do something, but that really just lets you group all sigils into one of two categories - ones that help you do something and ones that help you *when* you do something
3. Balance. It pains me when a single character can solo the entire run if I get this one sigil (cough cough ragnarok + rogue, huge damage every time they dodge), but the other, basically same, character who parries instead of dodging, has absolutely nothing like this in their arsenal
Some other things:
The skeever boss' dash attack hits through the tank's protection, despite not saying anything about this in its description
The character on the cover don't appear anywhere in the game, as far as I can tell
Final thoughts: It's a fine game, I guess, but nothing to write home about. There are too many minor infuriating things about it for me to really like it. The core gameplay loop is fun, but doesn't have enough depth to it in order to entice me to play it any more

Starts out good but becomes pathetically punishing and grindy once you manage to complete the base difficulty. The random recruitment and drop can totally wreck your playthroughs as you cannot get anywhere near your cookie cutter builds and character combinations. Therefore, the success rate feels way too slim and failed runs don't really award you anything.

It's a bit buggy, presentation is very choppy, character designs while cool in a vaccum are all over the place, the music isn't great with some straight up ripoffs at times (Hello there Zelda 2), and it's frankly pretty repetitive.
That said, mechanically speaking the game is quite deep, with a healthy roster of classes that to my knowledge so far seem quite well balanced, with all of them having their worth. Even with only two skills, the ability of having any combination of three out of the 9 total classes alongside the sigils you can equip them allows you to come up with a lot of different builds and strategies which can work quite well.
My opinion on the game might change as I get further into the higher difficulties, but so far I would be lying if I said I'm not having a lot of fun with it. So for now I cautiously recommend it.

The English translation is NOT good. A lot of the mechanics are very hard to understand. E.g. there's a "Skill" attribute but your special attacks are also called Skills. The special attacks ALL say they do "Skill damage." So, is that off the Skill attribute? The mage is doing Skill damage, but has a high Arcane attribute? So... which attribute is actually used for special attacks? WHO KNOWS?
That's one of many problems. This needs a serious redo of the translation to clear up so many of the issues.

the guy who made this just commented on my profile (maybe with a hijacked account, maybe not) asking me to try this game lmao. man didnt even give me a copy. ALSO I just looked and they deleted the comment which is hilarious, didn't mean to call you out bro. didnt expect anyone to see this review, I respect the grind tho
it's roguelite fire emblem. if that sounds interesting, you'll probably enjoy it for a few runs. translation is alright, and the mechanics are just shallow enough that you probably won't play super long term. still, in the meantime, it's fun.
