Theseus Protocol Early Access

The Game
This is probably one of the better deck builder that has a very cool anime/cyberpunk artstyle that i've played. I've play some others like Slay the Spire and think this one i different enough while not borrowing so much of the main formula. It's simple enough once you started playing around.
The Story
They seems to want to tell a story and i'm all for it. I want to know about this cruel truth behind the dystopian sci-fi world of Mark City and how it affect the playable characters or even why they matter in this city filled with creatures and peoples with tech. I don't know but i like this turn based card game battle system and how it help to advance the story in some ways.
Gameplay
The Theseus Protocol in its current form i found it very enjoyable. It's anime, cyberpunk and a card game deck builder. Love it. It plays like other card battler games but i think here it's being different and creative enough to set itself apart from the rest with the unique weapons each character has which can be used during combat by using the cards you fight with. Its got some great animation during combat and presentation is pretty good. I want more characters. I was going to pick the one with the sword but it's unavailable. Welp.
Card Game
So it plays like other card battler except here each characters have its own unique weapon and hey required to be charged using cards and once they are used and go into a cooldown. I found that to be a cool change and seem balance on the cooldown. I only played the girl with the hand gun and sniper so i had two weapons. Her name is Charlotte. I think the characters also have some abilities of their own that's passive. Could be wrong on that. It's a cool mechanics and i'm unsure but i was sure they could also be upgraded but i could be wrong. But if they could that would be cool. Unsure how that would affect the rest of the game as you progress but will see. The kinds of effect you can get to me seemed balanced enough and not so ridiculously powerful (i'm sure there's some combo i'm not aware of) but i don't mind a few of them since you're most likely going to face much powerful opponent or be outnumbered most times. I actually managed to beat several bosses in 1 run lost to this girl that looks like a Corpo for Cyberpunk 2077 with a few bodyguards. Was fun and had a good challenge to it. But in comparison in Theseus Protocol i can actually clear a lot of bosses with varying difficulty based n but and debuff i end up having to deal with.
Performance
Ran great. I think i will mostly just play it at 60 fps. It doesn't appear to be the sort of game that requires more juice to run well. This game would be great on Nintendo Switch.
Visual
Unsurprisingly it's really good. Not sure if they plan to change the card artwork down the line but for now it's good. I may have said it already but its got a great presentation during and after combat and even in the menu.
Soundtracks
The current looping bgm is fine. I think the game could use several more during the usual combat and some boss fights. I'm thinking of stuff like this. Just throwing ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VcqE4HT42c&t=64s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdv7LItpH8w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZvw7__yBvQ&list=PLdo5TiaudcWr1N-fkHIUlK7wTnQ41YBsa&index=8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaAKX1RHu2c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjyTzL6sxdQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgCnYsDTiXU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nys91Pd8Ck&list=PL8UbYpPIoqN1MPqIMmS0VAPY63ZAZdsOB&index=17
Overall
Enjoyed it so far and with more updates it's going to get even better. I think we have something here over this existing foundation that card battlers all have. I think it's unique enough on its own that you should give it a spin. But of course this is still in early access and there's more i haven't even talked about like the “Chip Development” system currently. But this game can get much deeper with its mechanics and systems. The potential is really high on this one with more updates and community feedback. I'll update it the more i play and the more it's updated.

Not a bad game overall.
It is still in EA, therefore there are several points of improvements.
The good:
The game play is easy to understand so far.
The gun mechanic and customization is pretty neat.
The game is not difficult and bosses are fair/ weak.
Game is stable for me.
Points of improvements:
Currently there are no good ways to have variety in builds. For charlotte, there is shock, bullets and metal beast.
The metal beasts are really rare as combat rewards so the only way is mostly to get them from shops. So an average build is mix of bullets and shock.
The events are quite long and unnecessary. There are loads of text with translation errors. And the rewards from events are not transparent.
The game is quite easy to beat and quite short. No difficulty adjustment to challenge.

It's... not bad. I almost want to give it a thumbs up, but this game starts to crumble under its own weight. It tries to do too much at one time and it becomes a mess. I've played a LOT of card games, so I figured I'd be able to get a handle on it fairly easily... and I did at first, but it just keeps twisting itself over and over. I unlocked the cool sword class and it was incredibly disappointing. Very convoluted. So, no, I can't recommend this.

If you like games like Slay the Spire and Monster Train, you will probably enjoy Theseus Protocol.
It's different, but it's by no means going to start a revolution in the genre, nor is it going to be genre defining like Slay the Spire was. It's cheap, it's fun, and it's sadly too short.
Hopefully this will be fleshed out in the future, as I can see this becoming incredibly good fun when it's polished more.
Better translations also would not hurt.

this game have some really good ideas, with how cards can be used to either charge a special meter or played, that also could play into each characters gimmic to make them feel unique.
it sadly don't use any of that potential as the card pool is shallow and is mostly shared between character, the metaprogress is power rather than variety and and overall the game is too same-y for a deck builder, there's dozens of better animeesque deckbuuilders out there, try one of them instead.

It's true that there isn't a whole lot to the game yet, though I'll say that for $10, it's very fun, well-made, and so far both Charlotte and Antiope are very different and very fun to play in their own ways. I love both, in terms of both gameplay and design. The story is poorly-translated, so that's definitely something that needs work, and the cutscenes make no sense. I'm giving this a positive review because I think that everything the game does have is far more important than what it lacks.
I love this game, and I highly recommend it. It's fantastic for what you pay for it, and you'll get a lot more fun for your money than many other titles.

This game has decent graphics. But the game is still pretty simple.
The fun:
The game has potential. there are some fun combos. A nice array of things to combo (weapons, equipment, cards)
The kinda fun:
There are multiple exploits that break the game. (getting 300+ armor is interesting for a little bit.)
The not fun:
This game is very buggy. multiple runs just freeze or the game crashes. some animations get strange. Also, at 300-ish armor, sometimes enemies just died with full health.
This is very short right now.

TL;DR Aside from few UI and translation bits that aren't polished, Theseus Protocol is a decent roguelike deck building game. After completing a run with the 1st character, you'll get past the unfriendly UI and find a nice casual fun.
Pros: Visuals are good, nice artworks.
Though confusing at first, seeing a lot of buff and debuffs being stacked has its appeal.
Consuming cards instead of using them is a nice mechanic unique to this game.
Has x3 speed for nice speedy runs.
You can resume from the start of the turn anytime, though this kinda allows rerolls/save scumming.
Cons: A few bugs here and there where the turn won't finish, but exiting to title and resuming can mostly fix it.
UI isn't the most friendly or intuitive, such as the tooltip not fully explaining mechanics and terminologies thoroughly. The damage counter doesn't seem to fully account for all buffs making you take unwanted damage if you're trying to be precise, which would be problematic but midway the defense/attack values should inflate enough to be negligible.
Some translations to english is unclear, but nothing too bothering.
The map path is visually linear, unlike other games of this genre, but only visually. Once you land on the spot you'll see the choices you can make, which I don't know why it's not visible ahead of time when it's mostly set events anyway.
Anyways, I'm enjoying this game enough for the price.
On a scale of Slay the Spire to Monster Train with the slow paced planning to fast paced wombo combo, then Theseus Protocol feels closer to Monster Train.
The battle UI/layout is like Griftlands.
The balance feels outta whack though, but they more or less exist in other games as well so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Theseus Protocol is a 7/10.

Slay the spire-esque with added mechanics. Seems promising but definitely needs some spellchecking/grammar review in English.

Right now, I feel like there's way too little and what is there is incredibly unbalanced. There is no way to adjust the difficulty, Nena (the summoner class) doesn't even summon that often due to a lack of cards that can summon, not like that matters anyway because shield spam is busted on her. The game doesn't even half of the things it advertises on the store page. There barely isn't any stories, the events are just long winded nonsense which are badly translated, the result screen at the end of each run isn't even fully translated and the third character they advertised isn't even available yet. I was able to see everything and beat the game twice in four runs.
I can not recommend this in the state it is now. The only interesting thing is has going for it is Nena's mood gimmick (which is quite easy to negate the downsides of) and the weaponary system (even if it snaps the game's balance in half). This game needs a lot of work and I rather you didn't spend your money on this until they put in the work.
