First off, I want to say that for what this game has to offer, the price of admission is very cheap. I can truly only imagine the time and effort that went into making this well-made game, and it is indeed a well-made game. Symphony is a rhythm bullet hell game. You choose from a selection of tracks offered in game and it creates enemy patterns based on the tempo of the song, the beat, and so on. I mean, you can choose the in-game songs if you want to. But most of the appeal lies in you being able to use YOUR own music collection in game. You heard me right. A game where you CHOOSE the soundtrack for each level. How freaking amazing is that? Now, while this isn't the first game to have done this, and it certainly isn't ground breaking, it implements rhythm elements rather well. The enemies fly in at you from the left or right of the screen, and their flaying and movement patterns are all based on your music. Now, I own a varied source of music, and my first play through of this game was with the Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Soundtrack. Let me tell you, enemies come and go with the sound of the music. It's so cool. But this is especially true for the easiest difficulty. On piano, I admit I am finding it hard to pinpoint an enemy-musicality pattern. This is most prominent on faster tracks. There is a quasi-story mode. Not sure what else to call it. I haven't beaten the final boss yet, however, I still want to say something about it. It's pretty hype. You have this entity trying to gain access to our world through our music, and he turns music composers into slaves to do his bidding. I mean, it's not a groundbreaking story. It's more reminiscent of arcade game stories. But it's neat. It's executed well. I really have no complaints about this game other than two things. THE CONS: - A max song length of ten minutes, apparently, according to another reviewer on here (I haven't personally run into this yet, but I do own many songs that are well beyond thirty minutes even; I just have yet to use them - A min song length of one minute and thirty seconds (which sucks for us soundtrack buffs) These two little nitpicks of mine by no means ruin the experience. There's Audiosurf +2 and Beat Hazard +2 & 3, so I'll be able to use my shorter songs in some way in one of these games. So, I'm not losing any sleep over the song length min and max limits. In my unsolicited, non-professional opinion, this game is worth more than its selling price. You get hours and hours of fun. A snappy, colorful (too colorful actually) UI. The game is easy to navigate with either mouse and keyboard or controller. This *experience* is just an overall good time. It's fun, looks pretty, functions as it should, is optimized, et centera. I recommend this to anyone who likes rhythm games or who wants to get more mileage out of their music collection. Trust me when I say that you will gain a new appreciation for the music that you own after experiencing it through this game.
