Eh, not much to do in current state. Needs alot of work. Steel is basically useless. Just go from Iron to Ambrosia. Shrines were boring and seriously, that 45 minutes of waiting one needs changed something fierce. Just obnoxious having to wait an hour to complete a dumb shrine. Uh, there's other stuff but it's all really minor and basically only applies to me. I just couldn't reccomend it to someone in it's current state. No bosses, little to do except grinding and spending time, overall kinda an eh right now.

Its more a demo than a full game, average player will finish it within a week, many players will finish it within 3 days. Good: - Graphics and the way how game looks like. - One click loot most of items of the same type lying around. (sometimes not all, not sure why) - Setting, not too many games around Greek mythology. Bad: - Good looking but empty areas. - Progression system. I am not a fan of gathering currency from completing quests or from some mobs and then buying all recipes from one vendor in a game. Better way: Unlock some recipes automatically when player finds for the first time related material. Scrap all of quests(not labours) and scrap currency. Instead create achievement system where players do things in a game and system remember progress in each achievement, then completion of an achievement rewards player with more advanced recipes. That feels more rewarding and satisfying than just dull vendor. - Hotbar, not sure but it seems like developers of this game never played any other game with hotbar.... So, to explain what hotbar is: Its a feature in a game allowing players to quickly access items from their inventory or skills, etc, with one click of a mouse. When player clicks item on a hotbar that item is either being equipped, used, cast or consumed, etc... The way how hot bar works in this game: player clicks potion, potion gets EQUIPPED, then player has to click mouse button to drink it.... wtf???? or Player click hot bar button with repair kit, he EQUIPPED it.... then have to click again to use it on lowest durability item.... Seriously???? - Durability on all gear except bis is ridiculously bad. At low levels one defeated soldier takes appx 30% of your spear durability... You basically spend more time fixing your gear than playing... - Rain, during rain game is unplayable due to ridiculous penalty to stamina regen. You cant fight, you cant mine, you cant run, you cant glid.... You want a tip? Look how Valheim did stamina regen during the rain, it is there but far less impacting. - Building, very poor, very restricted, square based. Valheim put high bar for building in games and no other game is even near freedom which is there. In this game you basically build a box... - Quests, some of them are ridiculous. Defeat 20 soldiers, when you already killed 50 of them... Build crafting station which you already build and now you need to build second one because demolishing first one and rebuilding it wont give you progress on the quest... Kill 10 3 star boars(everyone complains about that one), boars are rare and they are only animal who for whatever reason doesnt give 3 star corpse after bow head shot...(you need to hit them around shoulder area). Quest with ambrosia potion saying you need it up for a whole day... wtf? First of all, its not a day, its a 24 in game hours, I started my potion in the middle of night and had to wait till middle of another night to get it completed. Imagine, sitting for a 40 minutes in your box with clock in your hand and drinking potion every 10 minutes... whats a fun, whats an excitement.... Hermes quest? Another genius idea... You are not getting any tips where statuses are, so you end up googling it(I am looking at you 99% of players)... and these statues are in a locations you may never actually visit because there is no such a need... - Powers, gliding, attack from the height, no fall damage, scrap all of them. Clearly game is not design to use them, they make game trivial. - Some crafting stations are useless, some materials are not being used at all. - Why any type of wood cant be used to make lumber or used in fire place or smelters. - Cooking station needs more slots to cook 2-3 pieces of meat at once. - Never figured out how to change different types of arrows used in my bow in the middle of the fight, except dropping the one I dont want to use on the ground..... - You can't choose what you use with some crafting stations, for example grinder - if you have both types of material used by the tool, you have to drop one to the ground in order to put another one in. The same for butcher table. - Crafting stations got too big hit box from which you can activate them, for example, you end up going to bed when using butcher table just because bed is nearby... - All mobs are everywhere, basically you can travel through portal to the main area and 2 minutes later encounter meduza which is considered the most dangerous monster there, which is going to one shot you. The same applies to wolfs in starting area. Above are from top of my head but I may missed something. So, in general, I don't see anyone coming back to this game after trying it for a few days. It doesn't bring anything unique, better than competitors. Its similar to Enshrouded. Few days of gameplay and then bye. I think developers put themselves in a disadvantage by releasing bar bones, unfinished game with minimal content far too early. It would have far better chances to be successful when having more content and more polished mechanics.

One of my favorite crafting open world survival games out there as of date. Sitting behind Once Human, Palworld and Valheim.

I haven't played Dawn of Defiance for very long. However, I do feel I can give a review. I'll start off by saying at first play I felt this game was up for the haul but after further game play I've taken a step back. The following review made by another player a/k/a "Shep" would sum it up for me. Well said "Shep" and Thank you. I’m a long-time fan of survival games and have played many indie titles in recent years. Dawn of Defiance is a solid choice for both solo and co-op play. I love the mythological twist to the theme and the unique setting and progression system Traega Entertainment has developed. Think of it as a gem in the rough: more can be added, but it shines brightly in its current state. With that said, here are my thoughts on specific areas of the game: The world is beautiful, with realistic and practical terrain features adding to a rich tapestry of lore and immersion. I like the verticality of the world that beckons the player to explore seemingly unreachable places. Enemies and animals hide in tall grass, forcing you to keep a wary eye on the landscape as you forage and hunt. The water, weather, and day/night cycle effects are well done. As a casual player, I appreciate not being rushed to complete any quest or activity. Progression and character development is natural but challenging, which makes achieving each goal all the more satisfying. The building mechanic is on par with other survival games and perhaps a little better. Pieces snap together cleanly, the modeling of the components is attractive, and deconstruction returns 100% of your materials, allowing you to modify a structure quickly. I’m sometimes torn between completing quests and staying at my base to design and re-design new layouts. Combat is basic and intuitive. There are no complicated finger-twisting combos to remember in the heat of battle. Practice is key as it will yield better results if you perfect the art of the headshot. And last, while I wish features like new biomes, expanded character creation options, and dedicated servers were available sooner, I appreciate that the developers have considered community desires and included them in their ongoing roadmap. I look forward to future DLCs that add depth to the world of Dawn of Defiance. ****************************************** I must say this game is really not all about leveling. It's all about gathering, hunting, using skills and solving puzzles. It definitely doesn't hold your hand. That's part of the puzzle. It does feel a little grindy at times while doing some of the tasks that I didn't care for. If you are a player that requires a lot of action and constant fresh changes; this is not for you. But as I am a casual player, it seems perfect for me.

Only played a small amount, just got off the starter island atm. My observations (not criticisms) are - Game seems quite empty. Not a lot of mobs, camps, caves etc. - Mobs feel OP in the way they rush you in numbers, maybe due to the lack of mobs on the whole. As a stater island would be better if there were single mobs but more of them. - Some things feel unpolished such as when chopping trees you can get caught in a janky animation where the tree rolls under your feet. Or when opening a chest with 'E', pressing 'E' again doesn't close it. - The repair mechanism is quite complicated. Had to look that up on the web. Turns out you have to hover over the the repair item then press 'F' then click the item. Just needs a simple repair button. - Eating or drinking potions could be simpler. If they are in your hotbar and you select that item then you should automatically eat/drink that item. Not have to select the food/drink and press 'E' Like I said I am only a small way in to the game but excited to see what the devs have in store. Would love them to concentrate on improving what they have rather than just adding more and more content. If done right, this could be up there with Valheim (IMHO)
